Don't think this will get very far but I absolutely love the idea.
Washington (CNN) -- Senate Democrats on Wednesday introduced legislation that would tighten rules on the use of the filibuster in the legislative chamber.
In a nod to the classic movie "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-New Jersey, reintroduced his "Mr. Smith Bill," which would require those who want to filibuster a nomination or a bill to appear on the floor and actually speak.

A great idea, me thinks. But I doubt highly that it will get the support it needs.

We may get this. It would not be a fix to the problem but it would make congress more entertainingly transparent and because Republican senators are lazy ................. You know, I just want the Senate to vote NO for the next two years!

Your really think the Republicans are going to go for this? If they do they lose the only real fail safe tool they have (for when they're in the minority again)
Don't get me wrong, I really want to see it happen. People would actually have to live up to what they don't approve of, which would be wonderful.
Can't believe I'm about to say this, but when it comes to losing the filibuster, I don't think the Republicans, tactically, are that dumb. I mean, I hope they are... But how they've played the last two years I can't see why they'd go for it.

It is not really up to them. It only takes a majority vote and the Dems have that....... well you know, unless some turn Republican for the vote.

A majority of democrats wont go for this, the democrats have basically controlled both houses for the last 100 years, and used this tactic hundreds of times.
