Honoring the Victims of the Tragedy in Arizona: A Moment of Silence

At 11:00 a.m. eastern standard time on Monday, Americans are called upon to observe a moment of silence to honor the innocent victims of the senseless acts of violence in Tucson, Arizona, including those still fighting for their lives. It will be a time to come together as a nation in prayer or thoughtful reflection, keeping the victims and their families closely at heart.

Further, as a mark of respect for the victims of the tragic violence perpetrated on Saturday, January 8, 2011, in Tucson, Arizona, President Obama has ordered that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, January 14, 2011.

This piece includes a number of high-resolution color photographs, a memorable photo-gallery and a video.

    • Brilliant irrational thought processes, MrMxyzptlk. So all instances of death are equal, because they are all due to "some reason"...this level of concrete thinking doesn't even rise to the level of an oxymoron. It is so beneath the level of meaninglessness that even Sartre would have laughingly chortled at your comments. My own response to your remarks is: "A thing is a hole in a thing it is not."

Well, MrMxyzptlk...If it ends up coming down to that, we better make darn sure they revoke your driver's license right away. Hate to see all those flags flying at half-mast all over town. Yep, sure got to get you off those streets right away!

      Dear MrMxyzptlk,

No claims to being a "master" of that area, though I did complete formal analytic training, with an emphasis on the contemporary dialectical-constructivist perspective.

like I told Ethicalvegan, don't waste your time arguing with this useless troll. He just wants to get a rise out of people by being an obnoxious cretin. Trolls like him live for these kinds of moments when people are in a state of grief, anger, and confusion. They want to take advantage of that atmosphere because they know people are vulnerable. They don't really have a point so much as they just want to exasperate people at a time when their defenses are low and they are more likely to snap back thus giving these trolls more attention than they normally would give them.

MrMixedinthehead is just your garden variety troll - nameless, faceless, and ball-less. Do you think he would have the courage to utter this stuff in public or even make a video showing his face on this? Of course not! Like all trolls he's just a coward and not worth the effort of actually debating. Just mark his crap down and/or tell him to STFU but don't give into actually arguing with him. It's not worth it. He has never had anything worth reading anyway like every troll.

      Hi SamuraiDave,

Thanks for your comments here. You're right about him, which I figured out prettty quickly. He didn't really get much of a rise out of me...actually, I was sort of baiting him, so he'd show what a complete sicko he is. Actually, I've been spending the last couple of hours working on my next piece, a multimedia work on Tent Life in Haiti...which will go up later tonight.

But again, thanks much for your comments.

My very best wishes to you.
