Video: Hockey crowd sings after 8-year-old's national anthem glitch

CarlosBobthe3rd
Elizabeth Hughes, 8, made her debut singing the national anthem at an AHL Norfolk Admirals (the Tampa Bay Lightning's affiliate) game against the Connecticut Whale (New York Rangers' affiliate) last Friday night. Angelic voice, bundle of nerves ... and then after the words "gave proof," her microphone abruptly cut out.

What happened next might be something we've seen before at a sporting event, but that never lacks for inspiration (and maybe a misty eye or two). There's a moment around 1:30 into this clip that gives us hope for humanity:

    • I love hockey crowds. I always get looked at funny when I sing at games. It's funny how all over the world the crowds are so loud you can't even hear the speakers.

    • it's funny because they hesitated for a second and the entire crowd was like, "THIS MOTHA F******* SONG AIN'T OVER!!!" and finished it. Can you imagine being the little girl who's mic cuts out, probably starting to get super embarrassed, but then the ENTIRE arena starts singing where you left off??? Red, Blue, White, Purple, Polka Dot states, whatever!!! Not matter our backgrounds, when the "microphones" cut out in our country in the form of shootings, bomb threats, or Sarah Palin, we ALL sing together to make sure that the people are still the loudest and most influencal voice felt in the United States!

      "FIREWORKS AND EXPLOSIONS"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      AMERICA F*** YEA!!!!

      thank you

    • I know I'll get voted down among all these 'heartwarming' & 'touching' comments, but how does this video "give us hope for humanity" ?
Americans are willing to sing their national anthem only after the little girls mic goes dead.
Don't get me wrong . . It's nice they started singing to help out a nervous child in the spotlight, but if this hockey game was in Canada the crowd would have been on their feet & singing at the top of their lungs from the very beggining of their national anthem.
(the onlything that I found moving was the girls resemblence to Christina Greene)

    • This happened at a hockey game of mine as well. It was so cool to hear that everyone can join in on something so beautiful!
