13th Zodiac sign leads to mass identity crisis

Image

Your zodiac sign may not actually be your zodiac sign anymore.

Astronomer Parke Kunkle says that due to changes in the Earth's alignment the dates of many zodiac signs have changed, according to NBC. In addition, there may be a 13th Zodiac sign: Ophiuchus.

Kunkle says that as the Earth and Sun slowly move the signs gradually change, as expected.

The change didn't happen over night either. The 12 signs were designated to different periods of the year almost 3,000 years ago, when astrology began, and since then the Earth's position in relation to the sun has changed.

While the sign many people were born under may now be different, it shouldn't affect horoscope readings, according to NBC.

See if your Zodiac sign has changed below.

The New Dates:

Capricorn: Jan. 20 - Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16 - March 11
Pisces: March 11- April 18
Aries: April 18 - May 13
Taurus: May 13 - June 21
Gemini: June 21 - July 20
Cancer: July 20 - Aug. 10
Leo: Aug. 10 - Sept. 16
Virgo: Sept. 16 - Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30 - Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23 - Nov. 29
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29 - Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17 - Jan. 20

I neglected to mention that all 6-7 Billion souls on this Earth have
every one of the 12 Zodiac Constellations represented in their
birth chart. In the event that you've never had your time/patttern
report, aka birth chart, aka horoscope done, and thus do not have
it handy to refer to, trust me, it's a verifyable fact. Only charlatans
will tell you that your true horoscope is the same as every other
person in the entire world born within circa the 21st of any month
and the 21st of any other month. That's one of the most damnable
lies I've ever heard mentioned. The word horoscope comes from
the Latin/Greek word defining HOUR NOT MONTH. No, I'm not
getting emotiomal or bent out of shape. I simply capitalized those
3 words because I had no other way to put them into bold faced
print. And I didn't want any of you Current.com members to miss
that fact. Every one of you are unique, so this reductio ad absurdum
idea that you're all pidgeonholed & stereotyped to conform to one
star pattern is the essence of the con ignorant people are misusing
      to play you with.

I paid $200 to Mr.John Wilner in 2001 to cast my chart because that
man of 75 then, is/was the world leader writing the most cutting edge
intelligently researched books on the subject. I'd already purchased
his books, and had paid $20 in 1973 to have a Russian astrologer
out of NYC cast my chart so I invested the $$. Worth every cent of
the $200. The best horoscope you can get is calcuatable to 13
decimal fractions of 1 second of Earth time. For those of you who
may be curious to know why that's desirable to know, it's because
of the extremely vast distances of space, and the incredibly fast
velocities which the Moon, and other planets are transiting. That
13 decimal fractions of 1 second of Earth time amounts to 13
Trillionths of 1 second of Earth time, not Cosmic space. That's
33.696 MILLION times more accurate than the scams in columns.

What you folks don't realize is that a true horoscope is cast not
only to within the hour of any person's birth but can only come into
focus more precisely when the exact minute of a person's birth is
known. Fortunately,my mom verified that my exact birth time was
5:23 PM, April 15, 1949 at the Oswego hospital in New York. A true
horoscope also requires that the exact spot within 100 feet of where
you were born is calculated. A true horoscope is only bona fide
for one unique individual. Even identical twins have at least slightly
different horoscopes, though the psychic connection between them
proves out why the genuine study of astrology is a psychic science.
My grandad was a sailor on an Italian Navy battleship. Even as a
cook, if he were alive today he could tell you you can't navigate in
the darkness of night, even in charted waters, without the stars.

Predestination IS a future reality you can know without being either
precognitive or clairvoyant. Being that, in my life experience, I've
demonstrated ESP based experiences, they do give me a profound
understanding of how, and why the most bona fide astrologers
can give psychic readings. Better to get your info from the horses
mouth than the horses ass anytime if you want to know the truth.

Good point. My Psychology education taught us that humans typical stereotype
things and people they don't understand. So when the demand for info exists,
but without any supply of it, people, being only human, " reach for straws " as
the popular adage is. The astronomical, not astrological misperceptions about
what the Zodiac belt of Constellations really denotes have become such popular
distortions that they're folklore. That we now read of astronomers talking points
on astronomy and attempting to misapply them to astrological theory only
serves to perpetuate these distortions and the comedy of errors. Astronomers
would likely be the very last people on Earth to know and understand anything
about astrological theory because they generally don't believe in it. People who
don't believe in something are usually the last people who're motivated to read
widely and in depth about it because of their prejudice. Stereotypes & prejudice abound when we resign to never dig below the surface to see what else exists..

The Zodiac Constellations have become a popular joke since the 1970s
because the people then never read the serious books written about the
subject during the 1960s. I recall seeing a Playboy playmate from the late
60s holding a paperback copy of a book entitled Psychic Science, with the
Zodiac Constellations' pictographs pictured underneath it. You can Google
that up if you're a diligent researcher. It's like an Historical time capsule now.
Since the Zeitgeist of the 1970s was a reaction to radical 1960s, it's not
surprising that the people then changed their attitudes about the subject.
But the important thing is that the subject matter is constant Being a serious,
scholarly student of the topic of Astrological scientific theory...(It's a hobby of
mine, like music, cinema and especially History) I've spent part of the last 39
years collecting 30 great scholarly books on the subject to assemble a portion
of my private Library. You'd be astounded what these 12 Constellations are
theorized to signify on many levels. They go far beyond individuals. The 12
Zodiac Constellations represent the 12 phases of a human's life. The first 6
pertain to their inner development. The latter 6 represents their integration
into society as a collective outer part of human nature. They also represent
the 12 stages that occur in the rise and fall of every civilization.True astrological
theory is simply an extension of human Psychology which uses a psychic
scientific approach to study, measure, and predict probable human behavior.

They do hold extraordinary implications for all humans personally. Which is
part of their charm. You see, each of the 12 Zodiac Constellations' pictographs,
(which obviously depend more on the imagination of humans than science,
per se,) are purported to represent the 12 major areas of the human body.
Eg: Aries is seen in the glyph of the nose/eyes area of the head, which also
resembles a curved V that the Constellation Aries loosely configures to by
non telescope, naked eye observation. So when you look at a Ram, and see
it's curved head & horns, it's not difficult to understand why the ancients
thought of the Cardinal Constellation of Spring demarking the vernal Equinox
to begin the growing season of life. My grandfather, aunt & uncle were farmers.
I know if they were ancients, they'd probably identify with that idea as well.

Follow that pattern through all the 12 Constellations, and something magical
occurs. The inescapable idea dawns on people that humans are the unique
species of mammals they are because the evidence seems to infer homo
sapiens is a universal life form born in the stars before they were born on
Earth. It's been scientifically proven that all humans are made of the same
recycled star dust, and the same elements. But imho, it's the inescapable
inference that we're the product of a perfect design by a Supreme Being,
though still in our relatively primitive stages of evolution, that's special.

For all those humans who understand the Earth to be an Animal Planet,
named after the TV channel..And especially for those who follow the Bible,
the popular scene of a human siting in the center seat with all the animals
approaching the human comes to mind. The Bible talks of humans being
the stewards of the animal kingdom. The Historical legend(reading) of Noah
and the Arc reaffirms that notion. Though collectively, the human race is a
piss poor steward of both the Earth and the animal kingdom, the enlightened
individuals amongst we students of Psychology see animals as we see
ourselves. I personally love canines, felines, and equines. I've raised a
family of German Shepherds, and know that though they appear to be
less intelligent than humans, that appearance is deceiving. They have
psychic abilities, as I do, which is why I study astrology as a psychic science.
By the way, if you're wondering how I use the term psychic in relation to
science, it simply denotes " higher mind " Nothing snobbish intended. The
Constellation Gemini denotes learning on one level (inner life). It's
complement is the Constellation Sagittarius(outer life ). Gemini represents
the brightness of youthful learning. Sagitarius represents the wisdom of
older, experienced, seasoned people. I want to fit in here, so you can
accept I'm not looking down on anyone. Sagitarians are born to be teachers.
They represent the professional occupations of doctors, lawyers, educators.

    • Here's my take on this misunderstood article that noone else yet so far has
observed and explained to you. The precise reason why this apparent
shift has occurred is because of a phenomenon known as Precession
of the Equinoxes. A phenomenon known for only, oh, thousands of years...
What causes the Precession of the Equinoxes is that the Earth wobbles
on it's axis. That circle described by the Earth's wobbling on it's axis
transiting the entire Zodiac belt of Constellations on the celestial equator
takes 26,000 years to complete the cycle. So naturally it took 2,167 years
(to be precise) for the stars to shift 30 degrees away from where their
relative positions were then. And in the next 2,167 years, they'll shift
yet again another 30 degrees...And on, and on, and on, until the entire
26,000 year cycle is completed. What does that mean ? Absolutely 0.

Millions of years ago, a rogue planet headed on a collision course to
impact the Earth. The collision created so much heat energy that it
melted both planets, but only after throwing out so much mass, that
when the 2 molten masses cooled, the Earth reformed into what is is
now, and Earth's only satellite, the Moon was created to orbit the Earth.
That collision knocked the Earth 23 and 1/2 degrees off axis by tilting
it. Since the Earth orbits the Sun on an ellipsis, and not a concentric
circle, it's always had 2 Equinoxes, and 2 Solstices. But with the tilt came
the 4 seasons. That's all. So, suddenly, you're supposed to have some
" identity crisis " now, after all this shit has been known about for many,
many thousands of years since 12,000 B.C. when the Spinx was built
in Egypt simply because of a collision that occurred Millions of years
before that no less !!! ??? .Please. Einstein was right. A little bit of
knowledge IS dangerous. Can you say, duh ? Why is it that whenever
some astromnomer discovers a fact so old it's got dust & cobwebs on it...
And then he/she gets so carried away with such a distortion he's created
out of thin air due to colossal ignorance, that we're supposed to gasp
in awe over their comedy of errors ??? Show Biz. That's why. Parke Kunkle,
the astronomer, wins this Gong Show prize as runner up. But the 1st Gong
Show prize goes to the all too human reporter who typed the astronomer's
words out of context to make this fable of the blind (mis)leading the blind
a commedy of errors for the amusement of the Gods. Do da monkey shine !

I apologize that you got the wrong impression, Molotov. I voted your article
up because I've commented on nearly all the other contriubutors' articles
they also posted BUT DID NOT AUTHOR. I wasn't making any personal
attacks against you, amigo. In fact, I appreciate you're giving me the opportunity
to set the record straight both about the astrological disinformation this article
reflects. And now, too, about the solid, upright contributor who posted it. It's a
popular topic. Lots of others posted the article too, though they also didn't
author it. The fact that I didn't choose the exact words I mentioned above
on their articles is only because I'm human, and I know that others would
loose interest in reading my words if I repeated myself. Honest, man, I never
intended it as any personal attack against you. Current.com is a SOCIAL
interactive news community. If you reread my words you'll see that I was only
refering my criticism about the author of this article, not the contributor who
posted it it. Again I apologize that you, being only human as I am,
misunderstood my intent. I see now I was too ambiguous in identifying whom
exactly I was criticising. You did a good job posting this. Please keep up the
good work. I apreciate your efforts. Thanks again for giving me the chance
to respond. I hope we're still friends. I honestly didn't mean to sting you with
      any abuse.

    • Did no one actually read the astronomer's comments? He is not an astrologer (people that read zodiac signs), he is an astronomer (scientist). The Astrology signs have not changed. Kunkle simply pointed out that there is an additional Constellation along the belt in which the signs are seen. The two things aren't related. Zodiac signs have not changed. The original article and Kunkle's response to it clearly indicate that this whole thing about the zodiac changing is a misinterpretation of an interview by (I think it was) the Star-Tribune of Kunkle. The ST reported that he said the zodiac had a new sign, to which he replied in a separate interview explaining that he had nothing to do with zodiacs.

I thank you immensely for illustrating that point. I edited my words written
into my comments to correct an inadvertent human error. Apparently either I
didn't catch the entire scenario when I originaly read the article, or perhaps
I inadvertently confused it with another. This same story has been posted
here on Current.com at least a half dozen times by 6 different contributors.
So I haven't compared each one with the others to ascertain which ones were
restatements, and which ones were different. I've Email blogged & Bookmarked
blogged every article posted from this topic because it directly relates to my
scholarly studies over the past 39 years. If you'd like a reference to read more
info on the topic, and not mere opinion, you can click my avatar and read the
body of knowledge I've related. The 30 books I've assembled on the topic are
in depth. And I've forwarded many points on what the Zodiac Constellations
represent to greatly expand what they mean to astologers, not astronomers.

It's all made up, seriously. The classic debunk being the experiment where they give everyone in a room the same horoscope and they're all convinced that it's theirs.

Dear Saladin , It depresses me that YOU think they do ! Not everything IS serious . A little lighthearted fun , that is all they are , a distraction , another common delusion jointly agreed upon , like we all agree to give money value or that Disney corp. is a person . I ask you which one is the least serious ? Who's life depends on astrology ? As a religion , if you choose to see it so , it has proved mostly harmless , as there is no power structure ( as any true spirituality should be , in my opinion ) and rarely is it taken serious as others ( muslims , judaism 9 in other words , no one kills you if you do not wish to believe ) are . I know Obama is christian , as to what sign he is - no idea , it would be silly fun to guess though . The more i think about it , compared to other religions , it is pretty decent as it attempts to put people in harmony with the cosmos , not give them dominion over it .

I can understand your p.o.v. Being a Psychology major in college,
I've always been fascinated with what humans deem " the unknown "
Being a highly educated citizen, I soak up information like a sponge.
If you've read any of my previous comments, you know that I'm
a bit of a windbag, because info pours out of me like water from a
fountain. I won't make this comment verbose to bore you. So I'll come
to the point. I never knew what meanings words precisely had until I
adopted the habit of using my Webster's Dictionary of the American
Language, New World College Ed. to be the authoritative source to
define the terms discussed. That opened up my mind. I've been
studying astrological theory now for 39 years, and have collected
30 highly intelligently written books on the topic. So trust me, you
folks are only seeing 1% of the entire topic related by astronomers
who whouldn't know shit from shinola about astrology (as they used
to say in the 1940s). It's their nerdy little joke they're playing on you
because for the past 11,500 years since the ancient Egyptians, not
the Babylonians, studied the stars, it's been astrologers who'd
misrepresented themselves as astronomers, before Bacon, Galileo,
Da Vinci, Copernicus, Kepler, Tycho Brahe, Newton, and Hubble
arrived on the scene to make the physical science what it is. Those
scientists named never likely believed in astrology because it's a
serious metaphysical, spiritualistic study that integrates many other
disciplines/studies. Anyway I'm glad I invested my resources in
studying the topic of astrology in depth because I see the Big Picture..

The known is often quite boring to those who come alive when the
knowledge of the previously unknown enhances their lives. Discovery
is what it's all about bro. The astronomer authoring the article is mixing
& matching jobs to fool you into believing he understands the 100%
body of knowledge of astrological theory of the past 11.5 K years, by
pretending he knows how to apply one fact. People want to believe
he's " debunking " the validity of astrological theory. Because they
don't realize that 1% of something can't represent 100% of it, it
hasn't dawned on them yet that they're being played to perpetuate
a distortion. It's analogous to the fable of several blind people who
never saw an elephant. One touched it's tail, and speculated it must
look like a snake. One touched his tusks, and speculated it must
more resemble a walrus. One touched the elephant's leg, and told
of the idea that it must resemble a tree trunk ! The joke gets to be
more aburdly ridiculous every time the blind leading ther blind mock it.
I mean no offense to anyone here. It's precisely because I do in fact
respect you all that I don't want to see anyone play you. The astronomer
on whose words the article was originaly based was aparently misquoted
by the reporter who misconstrued his words. Another commedy of errors
for the amusement of the Gods. So the joke's on nearly all of us who
didn't originaly catch his/her mistake. Which is likely why editors shouldn't.

traditional(greco-roman) symbolism states that aquarius and capricorn are co-ruled by the planet or god(idea/metaphor) Saturn(responsibilty,harshness,crulty-think the god of the old testement from the Hebrews) and Pan(earth fertility god sex sex sex sex-yes the word panic in english comes from this "god") and Dionysus/Bacchus god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness, alterd states of reality and ecstasy. He is also the Liberator primarialy an aquarian attribute (Eleutherios), whose wine, music and ecstatic dance frees his followers from self-conscious fear and care, and subverts the oppressive restraints of the powerful.
Saturnalia is an Ancient Roman festival held in honour of the fertility god Saturn (aka Kronos or Cronus).usually the master would be the servant for the day and vice-versa.
Where capricorn is usually conventional and aquarius is unconventional

technically there is astrology 14 with 14 zodiac sighns and the reality of the 16sighns of the zodiac which lies between the ecliptic and the celestrial equator

      the crab

Yes indeed there are instances. As a man whose had 2 birth charts cast.
One in 1973, and a much more advanced one in 2001, I can tell you with
authority I am exactly one of those rare people who've benefited by the
predictions made for me within this psychic science. In the chart which
John Wilner cast for me in 2001, he used parralel aspects based on the
declinations of certain planets in my chart which are powerful. That's
advanced beyond anything previously used. You should read all his
publications. Especialy his psychological desrcriptions of how and why
the aspects work. And how the seemingly " minor " aspects are realy
of utmost importance in complementing a person's reality. I have a series
of books I bought, also in 1973,in which an elderly, experienced British
astrologer gave psychic readings, and wrote his knowledge into books.
His psychic readings are so hair splitingly precise, that it would make
your hair stand on end and chill your spine to read them because they
are all coded to fit only one very narrow key. Reading astrologicaly
expressed symbols, and understanding their exact meaning as you
would express an English language sentence is a learned skill. Because
as with learning how to read music it's a mathematical language realy.

      . .

the relation of the sun and earth to the stars didn't change overnight, so if this nonsense about a new sign affects anyone it affects everyone, not just those born after 2009. Good thing astrology and horoscopes are just for fun

The basis for this originating article is so ephemeral. flaky, and sensationalist
that I'd have to laugh if it weren't such a sad commentary on the primitive
consciousness of humans who run away with themselves with their cognitive
dissonance. It's always been known that the Earth is an imperfect sphere.
When a rogue planet collided with the Earth millions of years ago, it threw
up so much mass from both planets that when it resolidified, it was formed
into the Moon. The Earth shifted on its axis by 23 and 1/2 degrees then
and it 's wobbled ever since. The wobble transits the entire Zodiac every
26,000 years. They call this the Precession of the Equinoxes. So of course
in 3,000 years things shift. They'll continue shifting until the next 23,000
years has elapsed to complete the cycle. Much ado about nothing, only
without the flowery prose scripted by the Bard. Thanks for the link though
Remanns. I Email blogged, and Bookmarked blogged the Siderial info.
When you read up on the differences in the Chinese and Indian astrology
then you start getting to the real core of the subject matter. Thanks again.

    • And no, Parke Kunkle didn't tell the Star-Tribune that the zodiac ought to include 13 signs instead of 12 — especially since he doesn't believe in astrology at all. (He highly recommends Phil Plait's page about astrology.) He did mention that astronomers tend to reckon the sun's position with 13 constellations instead of 12, and Ophiuchus is the 13th. But in the current astrology zodiac, there are just 12. "I just mentioned that it's there, and astronomers actually count it... So if you actually watch the stars in the background of the sun, it actually does go through the constellation of Ophiuchus." He adds that the Babylonians probably had totally different constellations anyway.

Somehow, Kunkle's brief comments in the Star-Tribune article got morphed into "astronomer says the zodiac has to be revamped." As various people have pointed out, this means your entire personality is different than what you originally believed it was — you might be flighty instead of hard-working, or fishy instead of scorpionesque. Taylor Swift is an Ophiuchus!

    • 4,000 years ago in Babylon, where astrology was invented, there were only ten signs of the Zodiac.
Immanuel Velekovsky has an interesting hypothesis about this. About 3,500 years ago the planet Venus was ejected from Jupiter's great red eye (described in the Zeus myth) and entered orbit between Earth and Mars, changing the number of days in a year. Calenders all over the planet changed to include more days. This is when the house of Libra (ruled by Venus) was added to the Zodiac, and Virgo/Scorpio were divided in two to create 12 houses.
Scientists scoff at such musings but have yet to explain why Venus is the only planet in our solar system to orbit the Sun counterclockwise.

Not trying to burst your bubble or anything, but . . . Venus rotates clockwise in "retrograde" rotation as compared to the rest of the planets, but its orbit is counter-clockwise just like all the planets.

Funny you should mention banks, Remanns. The 2nd House influence
naturaly occupied by the Constellation Taurus equates to the theme:
      " I have " compared to the 1st House theme: " I am " The first 6 Houses
deal with the personal or inner side of life. The 7th through 12 houses
deal with the outer or collective side of life. Not surprising that the 1st
and 2nd House influences are contiguous. What you have is also who
you are to others not within your personal sphere of influence. That's
my round about way of saying the Earthy , practical consciousness of
the 2nd House influence involves money. And banks are money's home.

    • WTF, Why is this news. we have known about the 13th zodiac since zodiac was created. Do you astrology freaks even know what a zodiac is and what will become of them. I apologize in advance but my rage for this new is un-containable. I learned this in an astronomy class 5 years ago and if this information constitutes as news i don't know who to believe anymore.

    • Tiresias was considered the wisest of men and he was summoned before the gods because Zeus and his sister-spouse Hera were quarreling. Zeus insisted that women enjoyed sex more than men; the prudish Hera said that was not true. The only one who knew for certain was Tiresias. Why? Once when he was walking through the woods, he came upon two enormous serpents mating. Being curious and not afraid of disturbing these symbols of wisdom as they copulated, he poked at them. As punishment (or boon), Tiresias was transformed into a woman and lived, fully, as a woman. Years later, walking through the same woods, he once again came across serpents mating. He knew exactly what to do. He poked them again. Poof. He was a man.
And so, Zeus asked, having been both male and female, who derives more pleasure from sexual intercourse? Tiresias did not hesitate and said, "woman." Hera was incensed and struck him blind. Transgender, inquisitive, brave enough to risk the wrath of Hera (whom even Zeus feared) Tiresias, blind as he may have become, is the most modern embodiment of Ophiuchus.

Very astute observation. Many might miss the essence of the idea behind
it, but as Shakespeare once said: " The fault lies not in us, but in our stars
that we are their underlings " I collect inspirational quotes. Here's another
to add to that train of thought: " Life is eternal, Love is immortal, and death
is only a horizon. And what is a horizon, save for the limits of our sight during
our current incarnation. " Chinese & Indian astrologers hold that the reason
for astrology is actualy so that a man can change his stars, as was also
the theme in the movie A Knight's Tale starring Heath Ledger.

Bhuddist philosophy holds that God reated a metaphysical system using the constellations,Sun, Moon, other planets, Houses, Angles, and aspects. And
that it often takes many incarnations for a human soul to ascend. That is,
because one has to balance all their Karma, a fete nearly impossible during
one lifetime where humans are prone to make mistakes, we're given as many
chances as it takes to learn how to correct our mistakes. And that God holds
a soul until the stars are right to reincarnate that soul with a new astral reality
to work with. And that our gender, the family we're born into, even the exact
place where we're born is precalculated into that Divine Plan because we
humans are social creatures who interact with other souls here for the same
purpose. I recall when we were in high school math class, we learned how
to coordinate x and y axis intersections, compute slopes algebraicly etc.
The x and y axis intersections are the most basic illustrations of how the
      paths of 2,more souls intersect.
