On Thursday at 6:25 p.m., the Newport Police Department arrested Manuel J. Pereira, 38, of 49 Metacomet Ave., East Providence, the owner of Ronzio Pizza, 88 Broadway, which is a few doors down from the Newport Police station. He was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
After receiving reports from residents who live near the pizza parlor that marijuana was being sold there over the past several months, the Newport Police initiated an investigation led by Detective Seth Godek and Detective Mark Matoes.
Over the past month, said Sgt. Anthony J. Chauvin, the two detectives made several marijuana purchases from the pizza parlor.
"The marijuana would be paid for and placed in a pizza box along with the pizza," Chauvin said.
The police searched the pizza parlor on Wednesday, Chauvin said, and found four ounces of marijuana in the basement with a street value of $1,000. Also confiscated was $1,266 in cash, a security system and monitor and a 2003 Mazda.
Pereira is to be arraigned in District Court in Newport on Friday. The matter is still under investigation.

naw what cops do is they always put the price according to maximum profit on the street per gram , it might cost a 180 to buy a ounce , but they calculate by if its sold by the gram so if its 10 bucks a gram they're saying they busted a guy with 280 bucks worth of pot.
Its misleading but it makes their busts look huge.

pot is the easy bust, compared to coke or meth.ya bust a pot ring and ya got nothing but good pr, ya go after an actual drug ring like heroin, and ya get into some risk of dead civilians and cops, making your efforts seem not worth it.
pot is the standard tool used by law enforcement (usualy around election time for sherrifs) for a photo op, reminding us how great they are to the community.

True. I have 3 months experience working full time as a pizza baker.
It runs in the family. My grandad was a cook on an Italian navy battle
ship. And though the Cannabis Sativa leaves look great advertising
what looks to be a pizza topped with pepperoni, mushrooms, and hot
peppers, the pizza tastes a lot better if fresh basil leaves were used
instead. The idea is to use the MJ in chocolate fudge brownies. But
then, that's one of the other 5 major food groups, along with wings,
pizza, beer,and ice cream. Not exactly what the Dept. of Agriculture
