Past reports stated a shortage of anaesthetic sodium thiopental in the US has caused prisons to seek the drug overseas. however, there was controversy when a UK company was stated to be a supplier, since the ban on executions.

The company supplying the drug has been named as Dream Pharma in west London was based at a West London driving school. The main shareholder/wholesaler Mehdi Alavi declined to comment n the story to the BBC.

"The charity says other documents show Mr Alavi also supplied California with enough drugs for 85 executions, and that he has supplied at least four other states with execution drugs.
Earlier this year Mr Alavi said he had "no idea" why one US prison had ordered the sodium thiopental and two other drugs from him".-BBC

Reprieve UK aired concern on the export of the drug and how it was stored, since a bad reaction could cause pain. Vince Cable banned the export of the drug in December and is considering the ban on two others.
