Mexican drug smugglers catapult weed over border fence into US

TUCSON - Smugglers using a catapult to launch marijuana across the border were observed on a remote video surveillance system, and National Guard troops coordinated with Mexican authorities to disrupt the far-flung operation.

On Friday evening, National Guard troops operating a remote video surveillance system at the Naco Border Patrol Station observed several people south of the International Boundary Fence preparing a catapult and launching packages over the International Border fence, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Border Patrol agents working with the National Guard contacted Mexican authorities, who went to the location and disrupted the catapult operation. The camera showed the individuals fleeing the area before they could be intercepted by Mexican authorities.

The Mexican officials seized about 45 pounds of marijuana, a sport utility vehicle, and the catapult device.

"The Border Patrol's partnerships with Mexican authorities, the National Guard and the public enhance our efforts to address and disrupt the organized drug trafficking threat at the border and serves to degrade the capabilities of transnational criminal organizations," states Associate Chief Jose Cruz. "With their continued support and that of the public, we will continue to more effectively address threats before they cross the International Boundary."

    • I wonder how hard it is to steal weed back that was stolen from the mexicans.
There were 2 tons of it confiscated awhile back...
Wouldn't that make an amazing heist movie?

    • Ya know, ya gotta give it to them for creativity. I voted this up due to the use of the phrase, "far flung operation". I was reading this and got a picture of a group of Minutemen or DEA guys on the U.S. side with shotguns using the dope for skeet. Reminds me of a Monty Python movie.

Uhhh, newsflash Associate Chief Jose Cruz, YOU DON'T HAVE THE SUPPORT OF THE PUBLIC!

Now how long do you think it will take the smugglers to figure out they have to take the surveillance cameras out before they launch the catapult?

Legalize it. You are wasting our tax dollars and our patience.

I highly doubt this was 45 lbs. of kush. Maybe if it was Humboldt county using a ridiculously large rocket propelled catapult that racist Arizonians (not good Arizonians) are trying to blame on the "border," or "Mexican" drug smugglers.

    • #1 Tucson's not on the border
#2 who gets the weed before they pay(are there money catapults on this side)
#3 mexican weed is not worth the money its printed on(LOL)
#4 your continuing the racist xenophobic immigrant drug smuggling myth(keyword myth)
#5 catapults ...really ...catapults! I'm just flabergasted ...dumb really are you serious
      #6 propaganda lies!
for more on this see The dark ages....

#1 First, it never said it was IN Tuscon, merely that the article cited was from a Tuscon news source (that's what the place name before the article actually means) and given that Tuscon is part of Pima county (which is most of AZ's border with mexico) that makes perfect sense.

#2 If you are naive enough to think that physical money is traded for mass quantities of drugs like this, you're sorely mistaken. You can read tons of articles about how money is laundered through various sources and offshore accounts before it gets to the person supplying the drugs. So...of course there's no money catapult.

#3 It appears you were high while typing that, so I'll take your word for it :)

#4 That wasn't even a complete sentence..... But you seem to feel that drug smuggling is a myth, and thusly two questions must arise: first, if drug smuggling from Mexico is a myth, how are you able to make your previous point that the weed from there isn't good? Secondly, how is any of this racist of xenophobic? People bring illegal drugs in to the U.S.....that's against the law....police try to stop them....and that equals racism? Wait...what??

#5 Catapults! Really! Catapults! There'a a picture of the damn thing right at the top of the page! It's really there! What are you going around misspelling flabbergasted about??

#6 Once again, this is not a complete sentence. Just remember: noun(aka subject)+verb=sentence. Your's might be considered a complete sentence only if you mean that propaganda (the noun) is lying (verb) but that really makes no sense given that it would be the people/government making the propaganda that would be lying. The propaganda itself is an inanimate object or non-living idea and is therefor incapable of thought and thusly would lack the ability to lie.

For more information, I would recommend NOT seeing the book "The Dark Ages" which interestingly you seem to believe only contains/requires one capitalized letter and which you have felt no need to underline to denote that it's a text reference.

I would instead recommend that you see your local middle school English teacher or perhaps consult with someone who has taken courses in logic and/or current events. This will aid you greatly.

Bin Laden spends a hundred thousand or so in order to level the world trade center.... ten years and a trillion dollars later he is still at large...and we wonder why this country is broke..it sure as Hell isn't because of the labor unions.

    • a country of a hundred million people in dilapidated 3rd world conditions hmm , ya , they are gonna make sure the product gets stateside regardless of what you do , whether it be drug lords with guns to smugglers heads or people who depend on the money for their next meal , that kinda life or death survival motivation is gonna overcome a shitty fence anyday.

    • Legalize it, regulate it and set the price nice and low = smuggling traffic will evaporate, legitimate farmers will be able to profit, tax revenue will increase, it'll give people what they want.
Win win, win, win win win..
