OC Cities Want To Arrest People Who Dumpster Dive

It used to be that digging through someone's trash in Newport Beach could get you a ticket, now it's a crime that could get you arrested.
Cops there say people have been doing more than rooting through coffee grounds for Coke cans, they're collecting printed information that could be used to steal someone's identity.
In some cases, scavengers have been caught swiping bikes and other stuff from garages.
Costa Mesa officials say they have a similar problem. They're looking at distributing new trash cans that could secure all that stuff people don't want with locking lids.

Ironic that one of those places that is all about the 3 R's of sustainability would enact such legislation. Scavengers practice the 3 R's very well, and need dumpsters to continue.

If you're worried about ID theft do what I do, shred your docs, chop them up with scissors or even set them on fire and dance around them joyusly.

if you talk to some homeless they will tell you about how much food is thrown away behind major market, resraunts or even dount shops. its one of the only sources of food they got in some cases so we will see some arrests over this dumb law. If people are scared of ID theft then get a sherder for the home office or sumthing....its going to be sad to see people being arrested for being poor and homeless

need more charity kitchens around to feed them then. i work down the way from a charity and one day a week they hand out food to the poor and you can stand there and see 25 families in just a under 15 mins. and i mean dad with children graping the essentals only, not junk food or big name brands.

Because arresting homeless people really solves the issue of homelessness.

at what point will our government begin to take some of the responsibility for what mentally ill, poor and homeless people are doing to survive?
We bail out the banks so they can pay bonuses to the already obscenely wealthy and jail the poor for scavenging...I wonder if Michelle Obama is still proud of this country?

Incredulous:
We had to bail out the banks. But thats whats bad, we shouldnt HAVE to do that. That was the whole point of huge regulations by the government to prevent us from having to bail them out. Unfortunately conservatives nicked away the regulations.

that's a dumb statement just because someone is less fortunate then you and need to get food out of a trashcan that means they should be in jail
if you had to dig in trash for your next meal you wouldn't feel that way - 1 year ago

my point is it's not something they've done wrong in their life that brought them to being homeless it could be illness, domestic violence, divorce, mental illness
