Peter Schiff -There Will be Riots in the Streets

The major problem is all of the unfunded liabilities. Social Security is a big problem, but even worse may be all of the guaranteed pensions for government employees.

Actually government workers paid into the system the entire time they worked. Their retirement is not a free ride.

This could be a possibility, but I think your theory about it being right wing nuts is totally incorrect. That assumption does not hold much water, let me explain. The average American believes in the constitution, small government, and the ability to govern themselves. Where the riots will come from is from the radical Progressive, communist, and socialist left. After all they are the ones that want to fundamentally transform the country. Not the god fearing, constitutionalists. The radical left is what is destroying our country, not the average American, get your facts straight. It is the Progressive elite, and the Islamofacists that want to destroy us not the very few right wing crack pots that are out there, but hay if you want to believe the Tides foundation and the Obama regime then that is your right, but it is foolish and stupid, like playing Russian Roulette with a fully loaded machine gun, or drinking drano because Cass Sunstien says its good for you. But hay believe what you want it is a free country...for now...

So was George Bush a left-wing liberal progressive communist? What group of people in congress are god fearing constitutionalists?

Bush was no conservative. He was a globalist. Obama is a globalist. He is just worse than Bush, even more liberal.

if it worries you, do what all mormons do. store at least a years supply of food.
food riots are inevitable and maybe in this generation because we have passed peak oil. by 2030 there will be 300 million american citizens and our energy requirement will double.

The federal reserve bank, Ben Bernanke warned congress not to mess with raising the debt ceiling with political posturing, if you cannot read between the lines its was very clear for those of us who can, cut spending including defense raise taxes or the federal reserve bank will raise interest rates which in turn will require a greater percentage of government revenue to go to paying interest on debt. Believe me when I tell you this will happen if congress fails to come to real terms with the debt and deficit spending. The fed will force it if they must and they don't want to.

Though it seems like the rich and corrupt have taken control, I like to think that the founding fathers created a system that can be retaken by the citizens if need be without having to resort to riots such as in europe and egypt.

this is just some silly tin foil hat wearing survivalist wet dream from a web site that isn't even credible.
this won't happen if for no other reason than it would be bad for business.
But every generation has a few chicken little's running around screaming "the sky is falling" "the sky is falling"

people seem to love fantasizing about disasters. Maybe their lives are so boring that's all they can think of to spice it up?

Peter Schiff actually is rarely wrong with his predictions. I'm sure you would not know since you rarely do any independent research.
Myself, I am not too sure this "doomsday" scenario is going to come to pass anytime soon. However, Peter Schiff's assertion that the fundamentals are basically a house of cards is absolutely true. Ultimately there is only a single possible outcome based on the economic model we are using. That is catastrophic collapse. There is NO other outcome possible using THIS economic model. Perhaps it will not happen now, but it WILL happen if we keep doing this.

Historically your statement is made in complete ignorance. Human history is filled with nothing but disaster after disaster after disaster. Whether this story turns out to be correct or not, the idea that people are silly because they are afraid of disasters is not consistent with history.

I know that a broken clock is right twice a day. I know Schiff is a chicken little always yelling "the sky is falling". I know that you are still angry because I pointed out your deep and profound failure in supporting Nader, and that you hold a grudge and attack me at every opportunity.
I know that you make me laugh, and I am flattered by your attention. You have my deepest sympathy with regards to your intellectual insecurity. Lighten up, and stop trying to compensate for your real or perceived inadequacies.

You must mean that a broken clock is right twice a day (unless it is an analogous one set on a 24 hour basis, in which case it is right once a day) :)

Peter Schiff? the guy I LOVE to watch on Fox news? He said this? the republican, right?
i totally believe this and am going out right now to buy all the tang and Jif I can get my hands on.
I always knew that the balance of power presented by our three branches of government would not be able to stop one person or group to overthrow the way our government works. Too bad this country isn't armed ENOUGH, maybe we need 98% gun ownership to stop a police state.
but alas, americans seem to be the ONLY humans that don't know how to adapt and figure stuff out... it's a shame, we wuz a great nation while we lasted, MERICAH: 1776 - 2011, R.I.P.

It's going to happen but not like over there.
Americans are too complacent, weak, pampered and well, just plain fat. Our children know nothing but computer games, I-pods and cell phones.
City dwellers won't fare well. I'm moving into the country, unspecified, but somewhere one can sustain without modern devices and stores.
This is not the country of our grandfathers. This is not WWII America. We are weak, unfit, out of touch, poisoned and dependent on our Nanny State. Most of us do not know how to improvise, survive or live off of the land. Those that don't will be at the mercy of the Police State.

It's easier said then done. I would love to do what you are planning on doing.
Unfortunately, I am flat broke, go to a school in a city, and am half-way done with an education that probably isn't worth the debt I used to finance it with.

so if the education isn't worth it why are you bothering if we're all headed for ruin?
your useless impeding debt makes it easier to go off the grid and live off the land, you don't need money to grow food and collect rainwater. go to the library and "check out" a bunch of books before you move to the country and you could do it virtually for free after some supplies.

Because I'm halfway through. I am already in over my head. If I drop out now I have six months until massive about of loans are due and I won't be able to pay them back. I am going to default on them either way but at least I can get a degree out of it if I finish up.

but that's what i'm saying, you seem to like monkey_films' idea to get out of society and be on your own.
since your financial outlook seems to be so glum, just leave. don't pay it back, don't worry about it, you're going to the woods--so... it's EASIER, you have the benefit of getting out of that financial hamster wheel.
that was my point.if you don't actually want to go live in the woods and grow your own food, don't bravo the guy who says he's going to do it and claim that you'd love to join.
