After paying $1.30 (80p) for a cup of coffee, the suspect calmly took out a gun and asked Mr Henry to empty the till.
The suspect, identified by police as Gregory P Hess, stole $300 (£186) but promised to pay the store attendant back if he ever got back on his feet again.
He then apologised for the robbery, saying he was "really sorry to have to do this but [he had] kids".
The man, who was known to authorities after previous robberies, was arrested on Monday by King County sheriff's deputies, according to the Seattle Times.

I don't consider him an "armed robber", I consider him a desperate man wanting to care for his family, going about it the wrong way, but obviously remorseful even as the crime was committed.
I’ve been robbed before while working conv store, and I can assure you that the incident happened nothing like this, and had it happened like this, I’d have felt a little better about the entire thing.
Even the shop owner seemed to understand. There’s no doubt that it was wrong. And there’s no doubt that we should discourage people from resorting to this type of behavior as things worsen in this crazy time.
But really, what would you all do if it were you and you had no one to turn to for help? No one. And your family was looking at you with that look in their eyes. I don't even have to wonder what I would do, because survival is survival, and I would do just about anything to protect my family. - 1 year ago

That's sad... if things keep getting worse out there, we can expect more of this "tragic comedy". Good people forced to do bad things because they see no alternative....

desperate times produce desperate people, and as anyone who has kids would tell you if given the choice between watching them starve and take desperate action. I just hope the judge will show the utmost leniency in this case.
