An L.A. County woman dies at her desk on a Friday and no one notices until the next day. America: workers' paradise.

This is sad, but this could happen anywhere. Depending on the nature of her job, if there was not frequent interaction required and she was working on a project alone, I can certainly understand it.

This illustrates the 'current' level of disconnect prevalent in the age of Twitter.
Considering what caffeine does to the heart, a better slogan might be: "I'm dead in the morning because of my coffee" - 1 year ago

It is easy for people to criticize this in hindsight. Easy because of the emotions people feel for such tragic things. However, there is no wrong-doing that I can see here. This seems like it was just an unfortunate thing that happened. I don't see how anyone can be to blame for this. I find it disturbing that some comments here are actually blaming the co-workers. Yeah, I'm sorry but I don't think it makes any sense to assume that people should be constantly looking into each other's cubes to make sure they're not dead. This is sad, but there is no blame to be distributed.

What kind of company does she work for? Another example of someone being worked to death in your cubicle (work coffin).

Wow, it really is baffling to hear about something like this. It really shows how little most people care. We're often so caught up in our own thoughts that we fail to spare even a passing glance towards other human beings. So sad..

It is a very sad event. I am so sorry to know this. People have certain chronic disease which sometimes takes away the life without much hassles. But I would like to say to all who have such deceases they should intimate it to their family members so that they could be alert about that and can take precautions at right time, resulting to make the person alive/survive.

This is sad. Nobody noticed? Just tells what kind of society we've become. I mean, nobody went to her desk again before the work day was over? People are too involved in their own little worlds and their iphones and texting.

How are we going to achieve solidarity if we don’t even know whether or not our co-worker is still breathing? I guess the corporate environment was probably intimidating and they all had their heads down. Look ‘em in the eye, don’t be scared. Look out for one another. The boss won’t.
When they divide and conquer they win. Do you know how many of my former co-workers would duck into a corner when the trouble started? Years ago when I actually had a real union factory job there would be a lot of people who liked to push me into getting involved with union politics and then would not back me up when I tried to accomplish something for them. (I really didn’t need the push, I liked it.)
If everybody would stand together things could be accomplished.

The way I heard it was Friday was a furlough day, and that is why the offices were so empty. Rebecca liked to work on furlough days because the offices were empty and there were less distractions.
It is very sad though and my regards to her family.

No! You must not step out of the boundaries and show any signs you are human. You must sit in your little box and be a good little corporate slave until the clock runs out. Your thoughts must be on nothing but the company and their profit as you have no indentity. I hated working in cubicles. So happy I no longer do so, and never will again.

How sad. This happened to a guy whose cubicle was down the hall from me, but there was one person who heard him have the heart attack, although he died before the rescue crew got there. Terrible shock and great loss to us all.
I read an article last night in T&L and it mentioned the growing Technology hub in Hyderabad, India. The author quotes two young software engineers she was eating with:
"Everyone is working too hard now in India...What has happened to our way of life?"

I think Deepak Chopra hits the nail on the head; he says, "Are you a human being or a human doing?"
I read a great book, "A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose" by Eckhardt Tolle in which he urges the reader to take the time, preferably every moment, to appreciate the miracles of respiration, circulation, consciousness, and wonder. Everything else is just noise.
