In dramatic turnaround, US to censure Israel in Security Council

In a dramatic departure from longstanding policy, the United States intends to support a United Nations Security Council resolutions censuring Israel for building settlements in Palestinian territory.

The Obama administration told Arab governments Tuesday it will back a draft resolution saying the Security Council "does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity," according to Foreign Policy magazine.

The language, which was confirmed to Foreign Policy by two Security Council diplomats, calls the Israeli settlements "a serious obstacle to the peace process." It says the Security Council "condemns all forms of violence, including rocket fire from Gaza, and stresses the need for calm and security for both peoples."

The Obama administration has used similar language to criticize Israel on settlements, but has not supported any such UN resolution condemning Israel. Doing so would constitute a significant US policy shift towards its ally.

    • so if this is a dramatic turn around, does this negate all the accusations that existed previously?
will jews of the western world no longer have to endure attacks that we are puppet masters of the united states in israels interests?
will the idea that zionism is the cause of all the strife in the world cease proliferating?

of course not, as this isnt a dramatic turn around for america.it is just what we do when democrats are at the helm.when republicans are at the helm, just like fox news, israel can do absolutely no wrong in our eyes.when democrats are at the helm, just like on msnbc, israel is known to be wrong, and are told so at every passive aggressive turn.

just par for the course.and when the palestinians put out thier next public relations based attack on israel, we will be right back to square one with all the antisemitic bullsjit vieled as political commentary.the zionists will still be secretly running the world from behind the scenes and all jews are to blame.

the teeter totter just tooka dip, soon to be forgotten, as always.

    • I guess I'll be the first and open myself up to be tarred and feathered. I'm not an expert on agreements on the part of Israell. I think I understand that they were not supposed to build these settlements. If that's the case then they are in the wrong and I support this United Nations resolution. I support Israel as a state and they deserve to have their state BUT it seems that they are not playing fair with the Palestinians. In supporting Israel without question, I believe we are allowing them to take advantage of the situtation. This seems morally wrong. Please correct me if I'm wrong but don't assume I am anti Israel because I'm not.

its a grey area.israel eats shit cuz they are occupiers.so if they are occupiers they cant be stealing land that they already occupy right.but at the same time its just a foul move to build on limited palestinian land as it is insult to injury
