As it turns out, questions regarding the veracity of the content on Fox News have been raised in more substantive ways of late. Additionally, many of the protesters carrying signs criticizing Fox for being "fascist" nevertheless praised their sports coverage, so that's something.

10 to 20 yrs. ago when republicans started their assault on unions, and slowly and steadily through the years, convinced more and more of the poorly informed that time had run out on the unions; I thought it'd be easy to spot that crowd and their ilk by their short noses...having cut them off to spite their faces.
Now, they're witnessing what "going to the streets and takin' 'em to the mat" is all about. It's a fitting irony that it's TEACHERS who reacquaint the nation to this once forgotten lesson.

Absolutely correct, this isn't about balancing a budget, this is about dismantling the New Deal one component at a time. Under Bush they took a run at Social Security and failed, now it's the unions... and the unions are the only thing the working class has to counter the kind of money and power that corporate America has..if they break the unions then the Democratic party loses the leverage of one of the key members of it's base...the Republicans know this and are working feverishly to bring it about...I'm telling you this, if they succeed wages will go down faster than a rock falling through the air and benefits? What benefits, that will be nothing more than a word in the dictionary. This is a classic example of David vs. Goliath Lets pray that once again David triumphs. If not, if you are a member of the working class your future is going to be grim.

we all know Fox is propaganda, made up BS, etc... the sad thing is that since I started my new job as an over the road truck driver- the only news I've seen, in just about EVERY truck stop in the country, (42 states in 30 days) is FAUX. It is ALL they play. I was going crazy at the breakfast counter last week because I hadn't seen any tv in days... and I had to sit and watch the distortion unfold over my grand slam like fetid syrup. made me wanna puke.

Here is the bottom line, those who didn't want to join unions and railed against them but were happy to be paid the wages and receive the benefits that the unions had fought for eventually saw their jobs shipped overseas and now they are unemployed, broke, and resentful of those whose unions stood their ground and refused to be pitted against third world labor. If those working class people had realized that with a strong union support their manufacturing jobs could have been saved and their standard of living sustained. If we had strong union solidarity when a company decided to close an American factory, put all it's employees out of work, move it's operation to China or wherever to take advantage of slave labor wages the dock workers union members would have refused to unload the ships importing the merchandise from that company, and even if they did manage to get it unloaded with scab labor the teamsters would have refused to deliver it . The damned scabs that have been the Uncle Toms of the working class have made it possible for virtually every gain made for working people to be undone and now they are helping the Republican masters to go after the state workers.....for Christ sake wake up and realize that union busting is cutting off your nose to spite your face...who in the Hell in the corporate world do you think has the workers best interest in mind? Which party in Government is the working men and women's advocate? Get your heads out of your ass and realize that Fox news is the propaganda vehicle for the Republican party which is a wholly owned subsidiary of corporate America!!!
If you are a member of the working class and you don't stand united with other working class people, the corporations, which are united in their determination to lower your wages and eliminate your benefits, will lay you to waste,,,don't ASSIST them in achieving that goal!!!. Look out for your best interests because they sure as Hell are looking out for theirs! - 1 year ago

The propagandists at fox news have been able to sway opinion for so long, with their misinformation and outright lying, that they now think, just because they say something is so, it will be. I think they have lost touch with the actual damage their boy George did to America, and how many people, even a majority of people, will never forget that. Totally. The number one enemy of America today is Rupert Murdoch, and his little band of toadies.
The people who lost their retirements, the people who were back-stabbed for profit, the people who have lost their jobs, the people who have been experimented on with the military next door...we have all realized one thing above all: the idiots of the republican party are not innovators, creative thinkers, or even hard workers: they cannot keep an economy running without WAR and a POLICE STATE, that is their mod-us operandi, and the way I feel about it? They SUCK. And I Am Not Alone.
The tea party people are more bush fans, albeit in the closet, and they are nothing so much as a collective geriatric ward, clutching their paper money in their well manicured and wrinkled fists, while the working class continues to provide them with dividends and retirement schemes seemingly immune to the predations of their own party.
Even the people who have the most to lose from republican predation are against the party of the working people, and this is probably because their churches are using influence to sway those people to what they believe is conservatism, but is actually a distinct form of organized crime, empowered by a police state. Religion takes advantage of Americans inherent good nature, and they are very good at it. they are behind the spraying in the skies which is a massive pacification program and selective depopulation plan.

FOX fired a newscaster for refusing to do a story she knew was a lie.
She sued FOX and won, however FOX appealed the verdict based on the notion that as a news organization they are not obligated by law to tell the truth - they are fully within their rights to lie to the public and falsify stories... AND THEY WON.FOX lost every shred of credibility with many people (anyone with any sense of integrity and responsibility, in my opinion) when they openly and unapologetically admitted to lying and falsifying stories and forcing their employees to do so.

Nancy,
You need to verify your facts. Akre was not fired. But more importantly the FOX argument on appeal was not what you state. It was that Akre did not state a case under the whistle blower law which requires proof that she complained about a "law regulation or rule" that fox violated. It was held that an fcc rule against falsification (the basis of her whistle blowing) of news was not a "law rule or regulation" within the meaning of the law.
The appeal had nothing to do with anyone, especially the court, sanctioning lying in news stories.
You are stirring up stuff with half truths just like FOX does.

Akre and Wilson presented their report to their bosses at WTVT, a news station owned by the Fox network. Although the details were well-documented, Monsanto, the maker of rBGH, pressured WTVT not to run the story. The station bosses, in turn, ordered Akre and Wilson to falsify details of the story. Akre and Wilson re-wrote the story 70 times, but never to the satisfaction of the network. They were locked out of their offices, denied access to crucial bits of information, and finally fired. The story ran in many independent journalism outlets, including The Texas Observer and the publication of FAIR (Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting), and Rachel's Environment and Health Weekly.

broadcaster incurred defending itself in a landmark whistleblower case the reporters filed in 1998. The journalists estimate FOX spent than a million dollars on its defense.
The ruling assessing the fees came on the heels of a ruling overturned a August 2000 jury verdict and $425,000 award to FOX investigative reporter Jane Akre. Although jurors concluded she was pressured by FOX lawyers and managers to broadcast what the jury agreed was "a false, distorted or slanted story" and was fired for threatening to blow the whistle, the jury decision was reversed on a legal technicality when a higher court agreed with FOX that it is technically not against any law, rule or regulation
In setting the jury verdict aside, the appeals court ruled that in order to be protected by Florida’s Whistleblower Act, the alleged misconduct must violate a written law. The court said the FCC’s prohibition against news distortion is merely a policy.
Fox lawyers had made the same argument on at least six occasions when it was rejected each time by three different judges in the trial court proceedings.
"First, the jury’s decision is overturned on a technicality and a very narrow reading of the Whistleblower protection law, then the court sets the stage for FOX to destroy us financially," Wilson said. "This is cannot be consistent with the intent of state lawmakers who wrote a Whistleblower law to encourage and protect people who have the courage against all odds to stand up and call attention to wrongdoing."
"Nothing in the decision that reversed the verdict at trial absolved FOX of what the jury found to be misconduct in pressuring a reporter to go on the air with a false story just to protect it’s advertisers," said Akre. "They may call it vindication but overturning a jury’s decision on a technicality that it’s not illegal to lie on the public airwaves is not vindication in the mind of any honest and ethical journalist.
"The truth is Rupert Murdoch and the big-money Washington law firm [Williams & Connelly] that represented FOX here have forced us to make another difficult decision about appealing these decision that set a dangerous precedent in two important areas," Akre continued.

I always laugh when people who lose on appeal cry that it was a technicality. Of course it is a technicality, that is what law is. I lost a whistleblower case in Florida on the same grounds. It is the most common defense.

BTW, she was not fired. Her contract was not renewed. Another technicality, I suppose.

I misread my initial source, their contract was terminated. My bad. When it comes to the facts of a case that has made it to an appeals court, I prefer to get my facts there. Here is a link to the opinion in that case explaining the basis for reversing the jury verdict.
http://www.2dca.org/opinions/Opinion_Pages/Opinion_Page_2003/February/February%2...
This basis for reversal is a perfect example of the mule deer hypothetical.
A law was passed that made it illegal to kill a mule deer. A hunter was hunting and killed a red deer.He was tried and the jury found him guilty. He appealed. The appeals court reversed and said he broke no law. He did not kill a mule deer he killed a red deer. So, jury, although you did not like what he did, he did not break any law and should not have been tried.
Akre accused the station of firing her for blowing the whistle because the station violated the FCC rule against false reporting. The Florida whistle blower law says you cannot fire someone for complaining about violation of a "law regulation or rule." The court found the FCC rule was not that kind of rule so she had no case.
That does not mean as you implied that fox said they have a right to publish false stories.

And that is what they are counting on. Depending on your occupation, it may be so. However, if 30 to 50% of the country are striking simultaneously, if the transit systems are not running, if the highways are jammed to a standstill, if telecommunication systems are down, who will be able to show up to work? If a longer strike is sustained, where will employers get skilled workers to replace all those out on strike? Who will train them?
In the extreme that it isn't feasible for you to protest then, what about organizing an extension of the protest on your day off or on the weekend? One idea is to stage a four day protest, from the first Thursday through Sunday in May. That would give weekday workers one weekend day to participate.
One thing is for sure, there is no guarantee how long any of us will have a job if we don't regain control of our government, and stop corporate America from stealing all of our National Wealth. In that respect, it's now or later.

We can't let that go unchallenged. - 1 year ago

How much do the Koch's pay you to antagonize people?
Everyone knows they like buying voices with their billions.
Things we already know to be true.....as reported by news sources and admitted by some their own dumb people.
They paid outsiders to show up at Town Hall meetings and scream about "Obamacare".
They gave tons of money to tea party groups via patriotic sounding organizations while trying to hide the fact that it was really a couple of power hungry Billionaires duping people for their votes.
They bought off Thomas and Scalia and the Tea Party caucus in Congress and they have a whole bunch of the establishment GOP is in their back pocket.
Key GOP committee seats are now held by their former employees.
One of the Koch brothers (David I believe) was introducing himself to all the new Republicans on their first day on the job.
He also had a meeting with one of Boehners top staffers. Fact....it was all over the news. They are the second richest privately owned company in the country.
They earned over 11 Billion more in profits in recent years because they gave thousands of their own employees pink slips. They must be drooling at the prospect of having their own Oligarchy.
