"Fiscally responsible" Montana GOP blows off $1 billion in federal funding because it hates wolves

In Montana, House Republicans voted overwhelmingly to “nullify” the Endangered Species Act in the state.

However, by doing this, they are also “nullifying” more than $1 billion in federal funding. (Kind of like how you have to have a speed limit in order to get federal highway dollars).

$1 billion is a lot of money for a state like Montana. That’s $1,000 for every man, woman and child in the state.

Republicans are simply pissing away $1 billion because they're bound and determined to make some statement about how they don’t like wolves.

For some reason in the Rocky Mountains, right-wingers have an outright pathological hatred of wolves ... and I do mean it is pathological ... and mystifying. The rhetoric paints these animals as evil, LITERALLY evil, not just animals, who kill out of nothing but pure bloodlust, and that they will be eating our babies any day now. We aren't talking ranchers who have lost some sheep or calves to wolves and have legitimate concerns about wolves. We're talking right-wing fanatics who hate the Department of Fish and Wildlife, hate the Endangered Species Act, hate the Environmental Protection Agency, and in general hate the federal government.

And the state Republicans are kowtowing to these folks by pissing away $1 billion in federal funds.

“Fiscally responsible” Republicans.

Make no mistake. They’ve …. gone … MAD! This is typical of how Republicans are behaving at the state level. Absolutely no common sense whatsoever.

    • An unexpected bonus of reintroducing wolves in the west has been the restoration of ecosystems and other threatened species. In just a decade aspen saplings have been able to grow into trees because of the wolves presence. Many threatened birds and amphibians have made a remarkable comeback.
But these things don't matter to republicans. All they care about is hoarding money.

    • I posted an article about how the red states, particularly Florida is turning away funds to build a high speed commuter rail.

If it's green, then Repubs will not take funding for it.

In 1865 the United States had a civil war over states rights. The level of federal intrusion in 1865 doesn't come close to today. States receive federal money with strings attached. These strings cost the states money and allows the federal government to meddle in their affairs. The states are finally telling the federal government to take a hike.
