CA Council of Churches Supports Single Payer

Rev. Jim Burklo of the California Council of Churches sees California OneCare as the solution to the moral bankruptcy of our current, broken health care system, because it would minimize suffering and save lives.

    • As a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America--one of the members of the CA Council of Churches--I think Lutherans would do well to remember what Luther himself counseled Christians to do when confronted with plague: "For this I well know, if it were Christ or his mother who were laid low by illness everyone would be so solicitous and would gladly become a servant or a helper. … If you wish to serve Christ and wait on him, very well, you have your sick neighbor close at hand. Go to him and serve him and you will surely find Christ in him."

      Christians in California can find Christ in the humanity of others and let others find Christ in their humanity by supporting single payer health care in California and ensuring not a single person perishes needlessly in the state.
