Utah-based Group Moves to Recall Wisconsin Democratic Senators
-

- added this
American Recall Coalition, a group based in Utah, filed paperwork Tuesday with the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board.
The group has 60 days to collect the required signatures -- about 16,000 for each senator -- to force a recall vote.
The Government Accountability Board says there has been no formal filing to recall any Republican lawmakers but it has been contacted about a gubernatorial recall.
That, however, cannot happen until Governor Walker has been in office for a full year.

"God's Messenger", Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism was a racist who considered African-Americans to be sub-human because they were black; a sexist who considered women to be chattel; and a pedofile with a penchant for raping 14 year old girls. I kind of doubt that God would choose that miscreant for his messenger.

This is bigger than Wisconsin, I think we're only seeing the beginning of a larger fall of the working class. Sad day for everyone when corporations and politicians team up against people making less than half their salary. Teachers should never be the target of financial reform, they are a necessity and are underpaid as it is.
Yet republicans are fighting tooth and nail to extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, even willing to halt the entire legislative process to get their way. What will the repugnants do for all the teachers and other public workers across the nation about to get the axe as a means of making up for record deficits? Make the wealthy pay their fair share?? No way, the money can't trickle down if we tax them like it's the 90's... what a load of shit.
Anyone else getting sick and tired of the Republicans acting like it's in our best interest to fill the pockets of those already richer than 90% of us?

Actually teachers in Wisconsin make a decent wage and they are willing to concede salary. This fight is not about salary. If teachers want to make what the "rich" people are making they picked the wrond profession. They knew full well what teacher wages were going into the job. There is a very short ceiling in the teaching profession (one principle per school for starters) and they know their increases will be tied to longevity and education, not initiative and creativity. Not a slam on teachers, my ex is one and she makes pretty decent money for working half the days of the year.
The garbage man is a necessity, and they make less than teachers where I live. Maybe the protestors should come here.
As for the Bush tax extension I'll have to remind you Pres. Obama could have put an end to that, so stop complaining about it. It looks silly.

I never said teachers didn't make enough, but that IMO they should make more. We need teachers to educate our youth. Are you trying to say the garbage man is more of a necessity than teachers?
You're right, Obama could have not conceded to the Republican temper tantrum, but he didn't, you're right. I wasn't defending Obama, but it WAS the Republicans who threatened that every other bill on the table would not be passed unless the Dems agreed to extend the tax cut. That speaks volumes about the Republicans when we're facing such huge deficits, I mean really, it's a small percentage and they threw a fit. THEY are the ones looking silly.

I'll quote you "underpaid". In my world that means didn't make enough. As long as it's legal, as long as it's above board, everyone should try to make as much as they can. God Bless the teachers if they can get their pay doubled in this, but they won't as I've said they've already agree to pay concessions.
Obama signed the bill allowing the extension BEFORE the Republican majority in the House. Tax increases at this time would be economic suicide.

American Patriot Recall Coalition, who started the petition is a grass roots group based in Utah. They are starting to sprout offices in other states. They have an office is Arizona petitioning for the recall of Sheriff Dupnik and some city officials in West Virginia. Are the Kochs after these people too? Only eight of the fourteen Wisconsin senators are eligible for recall. Governor Walker would also not be eligible. By Wisconsin law an elected official must be in office for a year before being eligible for recall. The founder of the organization is a businessman in SLC.

Do Mormon Politicians Vote as a Bloc?
Space limitations in this venue do not permit an exhaustive review and comparison of the voting records of the Senators and Representatives listed above. However, there is evidence (both empirical and rigorously academic) that the notion of bloc voting by the "Mormon contingent" in Congress is a myth.
Empirical Evidence of Political Independence
If these men thought and acted in lockstep and placed religious affiliation above all other concerns, one would expect them all to have enthusiastically supported Mitt Romney's presidential candidacy. Yet, only four of the sixteen men actually endorsed Romney. Some said it was simply too early in the race to endorse a specific candidate. Others, such as Sen. Gordon Smith, actively supported a different candidate (in Smith's case, John McCain.) There was certainly no united "Mormon front" behind Mitt Romney in Congress.
A Confirming Academic Study
The question of religious affiliation's effect on legislative voting has also been studied with academic rigor. A recent paper by Damon Cann of the Department of Political Science at the University of Georgia rigorously evaluated the extent to which religious identification influences the roll-call voting behavior of Mormon members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Cann noted that "the possibility for influence seems high in the Mormon case as Mormon citizens demonstrate high levels of support for pronounced church positions on ballot initiatives. However, a review of influences on legislative decision making shows that the theoretical rationale for religious influence on legislative roll-call voting is tenuous at best. Results showed that across a range of different issue areas, Mormon representatives are no more unified in their voting behavior than randomly selected sets of legislators."
Myth: Mormons in the USA all vote Republican.
FACT: The church hews to a strictly neutral position in partisan politics, consistently refusing to endorse any particular candidate or party in any race. It encourages members to be active in the political process and to vote according to their individual judgment and conscience. The church has publicly declared its official position on partisan political neutrality since the 1890s. The December 15, 2007, edition of The Washington Post, in an article entitled, "The Mormon Question", cited a poll finding that 53% of Mormons described themselves as Republican. The senior Democrat in Congress, Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The press has quoted Senator Reid saying he thinks Democratic/Republican registration among church members is “fairly even”.
