Dozens topple off malfunctioning DC escalator

WASHINGTON (KABC) -- Dozens of people tumbled like dominoes off a malfunctioning escalator in Washington, D.C. and it was caught on video.

A surveillance camera was rolling at a D.C. Metro station as people left the Rally to Restore Sanity event at the National Mall last fall.

Suddenly, the escalator sped up, and sent people tumbling over each other and onto the ground.

Several people were injured, and one person was seriously injured.

Investigators said the escalator's brake system failed.

    • Gotta luv the way DC turns the escalators completely off in the heat of the summer...not everywhere mind you, the ones that go up to the tourist destinations and the financial/government districts remain in working order, but the ones the working class use to get home at night to the less affluent neighborhoods mysteriously don't work as these already tired souls make their way to the underground subway and home.

      Hey David, how about the big construction worker-looking dude with the WT logo on his back just standing there doing nothing...kinda hard to miss his empathy, he's front and center in the video, doing nothing, not off to the side taking pictures. Hey, wait a minute, he looks a little bit like you...;-)
