As it readies for the debut of the Keith Olbermann show, Current TV is building a studio in Manhattan, says co-founder Joel Hyatt in this interview with Beet.TV.Hyatt says that the studio will have additional uses beyond the Olbermann show, which will debut in "late Spring."

I don't understand how MSNBC let their biggest star with the biggest group of followers go like that...I'm sure they regretted it. I'm just glad Keith chose Current, before he came on board, I have never heard of Current, now I'm always watching it.

I really appreciate this news! Can't wait for his show to start! My problem is that my cable provider doesn't carry CurrentTV (Cox Cable, Las Vegas, NV) I'm thinking about signing up with Cingular and thier PrismTV/phone/internet package, just so I can get Kieth! Anybody have any feedback on this?
Also: Suggestion; howabout some sort of link following construction progress, first guests, reporting team, etc? Hey C'mon, were starving here...
And while you're at it, how about talking Rachel into jumping ship and joining Kieth in NY? Kieth with Rachel Maddow as a co-anchor would be incredible....or I'd settle for back-to-back shows as they had on MSNBC... Rachel is lost there now, surrounded by bufoons. (Okay, Lawrence is a smart bufoon).

Current can't afford Rachel Maddow. They couldn't afford Olbermann. They gave him a title and a piece of the action. Maybe when Current has more nightly viewers than YouTube's Hamster On A Piano they can add more personnel.

You may be right... but perhaps, while I may be dreaming, (I'm not smoking anything, I swear), Rachel might jump for much the same reason. I thought I detected a certain intellectual bond between them and I know that she hasn't bonded in the same way with the hosts of the bookend shows she's now on with.
Lawrence is a washington old-timer who knows his stuff but never had any heat. Now that he's trying to fill Kieth's time slot, he's being coached to turn up the heat but he still just sounds like an intellectual on a hot-plate. He's just not bringimg it off.
Big Ed on the other hand has the heat but no style or depth. I saw him do an interview that looked like the O'Reilly/Obama interview; he lost me then and there. Even though he's been doing good things on the Wisconsin story...
As to CurrentTV viewership, I'm sure that thier numbers will jump hugely! I didn't know it existed until I heard Kieth was going there. Now that I've been nosing around thier website, I see other shows such as Bar Karma that I really want to watch. I've been hounding my cable provider to pick up Current TV, and if they don't I'll switch providers.

I believe Olbermann would go out of his mind if Maddow was given a piece of the action. What he did at MSNBC was be a mentor. If she had a piece of the Current action that would put her at the table with Olbermann. I doubt he would want her to have power. Olbermann is a strange, high strung person who is difficult to deal with.

I specifically don't miss that. In fact, I started watching Keith in late 2003 and as time moved forward became more and more irritated when he would spend so much time personally attacking people.....especially Billo. Don't get me wrong, Billo is an easy target but I do wish he kept his scathing remarks to the issues, actions, and opinions of the people he was discussing and not about frivolous non-sequiturs.

OH WARREN. Keith's moves were the lead story on at least 2/3 of broadcast and network news. The other third, where I presume you get your information, is the network-that-shall-not-be-named. I have no idea what they talked about because their channels are blocked on my TV. I don't want to my kids to be taught hate and fear.

You can save your indirect insults. I use a variety of news sources from both sides of the political aisle. I checked most of the top newspapers websites that day. It was not mainstream news.
I've never blocked any news channels from my kids. I didn't want them to grow up with a one sided, biased and bigoted view of the world. Besides their values come from their family not the television. Their views are their own. I also taught them to respect other's views regardless of what they think of them.

Maybe Olbermann has been searching for the invisible hand that guides Obama down the Bush path of unrighteousness. If Kieth shows up at Current studios and tells us that Obama was put into office only to allow easily, a Republican controlled House and that everything happens because it is by design, he will have nothing to talk about. Kieth should have told the Tea Party that Ayn Rand was an atheist; don't you think keeping that from them is too unkind?

I don't have cable or satelite TV. So I am wondering if his show will be posted on this web site? I was only able to watch him before on MSNBC's web site. I sure hope that the leaders of CURRENT figure this one out. Otherwise my coming to this web site will be pretty pointless. Don't get me wrong, I do love the community that I have found here, but the only reason I came here to start with was because of Olberman.

I'm confident Keith will take this opportunity to shine. Free of GE's leash he will be even more independent than at MSNBC. I don't see this becoming an hour long shit fight between KO and the likes of O'Reilly, Limbaugh and Beck. There's bigger fish to fry than those bush league shock jock entertainers. I think there will be a vision of what a real progressive news show is like once Keith takes the reins as news director of Current.

Would be great to see them set up a citizen journalist studio that would allow people out here to report on important events with an independent perspective free of political bias or influence as well. The perspective we see very little of in cable news which is why I don't watch it. I think people are really tired of the divisiveness and want independent voices that tell it like it is in appealing to humans in general who share and are affected by the same issues in ways that give us perspective and solutions. I hope that is truly what Mr. Olbermann is looking to do, because from what I have seen of his blog he only appears to want to bash the right. Not that they don't deserve some, but I don't want to see it 24 /7 on Current, and I'm even changing my cable provider so I can get the station. I really do wish them the best. Oh, and hint: I'm only across the river and would come work for you in a heartbeat too if you ever put out a call. ;-). It's time for some truth in our media.
