Youth groups in Kuwait are planning to hold demonstrations calling for the resignation of the prime minister, and for greater political freedoms. A group called the Fifth Fence has urged followers on the social networking site Twitter to take to the streets on Tuesday as parliament holds its first session in six weeks. They are urging Sheikh Nasser Mohammad al-Ahmad al-Sabah, the prime minister, to step down, after five years in power. The al-Sabah family has ruled the small Gulf state for more than 250 years, and political parties are banned.
"The first step toward reform is forming a new government under a new prime minister that should be capable of running the country and reforming imbalances," the nationalist Popular Action Bloc said in a statement last week.
However demonstrations are banned in Kuwait without prior approval, which has not been gained for Tuesday's action. The demonstration comes as protests across the Middle East and Arab states continue. Kuwait has already seen some protests from stateless Arabs, known as bidoon, who are demanding citizenship. Politicians have promised to discuss a draft law in parliament on Tuesday that would grant them basic civil rights.

My old companion, a long-time specialist on the Middle East, said Kuwait was ripe for an unexpected spark of democracy. This may be it.
Good on you, Ajilivison, and your family, for your commitment to life and liberty in Kuwait. Insha'allah. - 1 year ago

Seauvan:
How does God protect a country? Does God protect a country from other countries? How does God choose who to protect?
And if God protects, then he intervenes. And if God intervenes, then humans don't actually have free will, which is contradictory to scriptures on the topic.

Kuwaiti authorities closed down the office of the Al Jazeera news channel in Kuwait City. In a statement, Kuwait's ministry on Information described Al Jazeera's coverage as "intervention in a Kuwaiti domestic issue".
It follows a police crackdown on Wednesday in which four Kuwaiti MPs and at least a dozen others were injured.

This is Kuwait's 50th National Day Celebrations on February 25, 2011. Just to give people an idea of what it means to be an oil-rich country.

I heard the Saudis have threatened to use their own military on other countries if they don't violently put down their own revolts.
I wish the Kuwaitis luck and, barring that, I wish them victory.
