State Sen. Scott Fitzgerald (R), the Wisconsin Senate Majority Leader, must have forgotten his talking points while appearing on Megyn Kelly's Fox News show. This afternoon he admitted on-air what many liberals have long-suspected: rescinding collective bargaining rights from state workers is Wisconsin is as much about the 2012 presidential election as Wisconsin's 2011 budget shortage. As first reported by ThinkProgress, Fitzgerald told Kelly: "If we win this battle, and the money is not there under the auspices of the unions, certainly what you’re going to find is President Obama is going to have a much difficult, much more difficult time getting elected and winning the state of Wisconsin."
Watch Fitzgerald in the video below, as first seen on Fox News on March 9, 2011:

Beyond discussing, there is the doing. Anyone here want to actually lend Wisconsin a hand? Here is what would help: Email your name, phone number, city and state to KFJphonebank@gmail.com and let them know you are willling to make campaign phonecalls for Joanne Kloppenburg. Joanne Koppenburg is running for a Wisconsin Supreme Court seat. If she doesn't unseat Prosser (an openly conservative judge activist,) any of our actions involving ethics complaints, recalls or criminal charges that come before this court will fail. The elction is April 5th, 2011 and the virtual phonebank starts tomorrow Monday March 14, 2011. Please help spread the word. Thanks!

I am glad Senator Fitzgerald spoke the truth and revealed exactly the driving reason behind this bill. Guess what? This bill will be the downfall and possibly demise of the Republican Party as we know it. A new leader will emerge - but his/her voice will not be heard until around 2016.
The republicans can kiss the 2012 election good - bye. - 2 years ago

I think it's becoming safe to say the GOP is becoming the ruination of the America envisioned by her Founders. Have they considered what kind of government we'll inherit if they succeed in saddling us with a one party system? Will national elections be the next things to go? I know Conservatives aren't fond of a level playing field, but the radical right if fast becoming a fascist movement.

The GOP has become a corpratist functionary of the monied elite in this country who owe all their wealth not to the vaguries of the the free market on capital enterprise but to the manipulation of the financial markets, the whole sale buying of various politicos and politicians. These people contribut nothing of any real value to this country or economy. They are the giant tick sucking off the gain generated by the workers of this country.

Just remember folks, what you are witnessing at the state level in Wisconsin is the real face of the GOP. It's not about family values, or religion, or fiscal responsibility or smaller government. It's about raw power for powers sake. It's about crippling the middle class by removing the last shreds of power we have and guaranteeing the fiscal rape of this generation and every future generation.

Well the Republicans have kicked the butt of workers in the US! While the oh so pleasant and polite Democrats sit back an let it happen. The Dems are in on the theft of workers rights just as they are accomplices on every attack on the workers. From Obama granting insane tax cuts to the ulberrich to the stealing of contracted labor agreements in Wisconsin and many other states. Meanwhile the Republican plan to gut all social programs while protecting special breaks for the ulberrich and the Dems continue to do their part to insure the Republicans success.
Politeness is a cover for kickbacks from corporate donors. The rights of workers were won by spilling blood and sacrifice. The rich and power controllers killed many union organizers and their families while worker rights were being won---study your history!

If you are referring to the Bush tax cut "extensions"........don't forget that the GOP
was holding hostage the unemployment benefits of MILLIONS of people if the
GOP didn't get THEIR tax cuts extended for the "uberrich".The Labor Dept stated that the number of unemployed without benefits would have reached about 13 MILLION by May. He "compromised" but he also kept MILLIONS
from possibly losing the only safety net they had left to provide food and shelter
for their families.
He also got the payroll tax reduced for workers...that added a few
bucks to working peoples checks. - 2 years ago

Tell that to the 14 Democratic legislators who put their reputations, if not their jobs, on the line by refusing to vote such a crappy piece of legislation into law and fleeing the state. This kind of general condemnation of all Democrats is not helpful and is exactly what contributed to the last election's disastrous vote. We need to target the so-called blue dog Democrats who inexplicably caucus and vote with the GOP on key issues. They need to get behind the President and the party, or get lost. Obama may not be able to express these sentiments without backlash, but we, the voters, certainly can. At town hall meetings, ask the pointed questions, the impolite but important questions and openly record them. Let candidates for office know we are watching and are willing to hold them fully accountable, and that we do not forget.

By internet,fb and blog posts we have had to continually remind each other to keep our tempers. Nothing would make Walker, his followers and the entire Rebublican Party, Tea-bagggers and Fascists happier than were we to lose our self control. They want it so bad that Fox actually aired a video of a violent protest from I think San Diego, saying it was tape from the protests in Madison! This was already known by most intellectuals following the news. The problem is to most Fox viewers they take winning the White House as a game.. And a war.. They have an "anything goes", "no options off the table" type of mentality towards winning elections. So this news or slip of the tongue will just help to encourage their cheerleaders that they are that much closer to winning the Presidency in 2012.
My sic fantasy.. Let them win.. Let the repubs have all their dreams come true.. Corporatize everything including the water we drink the air we breathe.. then let them pull the back the curtains and show those that religiously watch Fox news and only Fox news the truth.. then maybe this country will wake up and take the country back from the corporations. I fear a real scorched earth type of outcome here as the only way for the American People to wake up to reality.

Fox News viewers are all Republicans (I don't know, maybe some of them like to think of themselves as "independents"). For Walker to go on Fox and inform the viewers that finishing off the unions is a good strategy for denying campaign contributions to the "socialist Kenyan, Obammunist", just gives these fools another reason to take an anti-union stance (against their own interest), even though Obama and other corporatist Democrats as a rule, take the union money, mention them in a speech here and there, and otherwise do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to support the plight of workers and organized labor whatsoever.
Kudos to the Wisconsin 14!!! Shame on the Obama administration.

Hi again! Yes we must! Recalls and ethics charges all have the possibility of ending up in front of Wisconsin's Supreme Court. Because of this, today I took on the delicate task of emailing everyone I could on fb and internet to point out that we have another election here in less than one month! In this election we will have to vote in a Judge Kloppenberg who is a stickler for ethics, which has not been the case with some of our other sitting judges. If Kloppenberg is not elected, our conservative court will make moot all our efforts toward justice. I had the difficult task of thanking everyone who has been so active in protesting, while calling out all of those who failed to vote in Novemeber thereby creating something that never had to happen to us! (And believe me, if all these activivists had all voted in November, none of this would be happening right now!)
As politely as I could, I encouraged the November non-voters to campaign their hearts out for Kloppenberg, or at the very least VOTE THIS TIME! I did not speak like this or capitalize like this in my plea. Just using this space to vent a little frustration. Believe me I cannot afford to alienate one potential voter in our April 5th election! Thanks for "listening!"

i was just watching the story break on
The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnellthere is an upside on the backside of this story:
the parliamentary procedure the republican senate used to separate out
the non-finance parts of the bill and move them to conference committee for
vote, does not need the quorum of a finance bill. so they voted and past
that part of the bill ending unions and collective bargaining
but
there is a parliamentary rule within the conference committee
there has to be a 24 hour notice on the vote
they did not give the noticeso
the democrats called the attorney general to look at the illegality of the vote
the contest by the democrats should hold up
and
the upshot of the upside is this:the republicans will deeper and further nakedly reveal how opposed to
the middle class they are
and
how sinister and creepy they are in undermining the working classa good look really...

Well according to Lawrence the Democrats have "lost". He said the health reform bill would never pass long before there was even a debate.

They are going to end up looking even dumber when this all washes out
and I can smell the recalls coming already once the press exposes them for
the idiots they are. They tried to skirt their own laws just to screw their people. - 2 years ago

This just in: WI Republican senators just hijacked the senate and illegally passed the "budget repair bill" where they just removed everything about the actual budget, basically passing a bill stripping bargaining.

Get accustomed to it ....
BOISE — A bill that will likely change for years how Idaho’s public school districts and their teachers negotiate contracts is one step away from becoming law.
With a 48-22 vote, the House on Tuesday passed the first of Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna’s “Students Come First” bills, sending it to Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter’s desk, where it still needs to be signed into action. The legislation allows school districts to fire teachers when enrollment drops and limits the scope of teacher-district negotiations to salaries and benefits.
It also eliminates the requirement that senior teachers be spared from the chopping block when districts lay off educators, and phases out tenure for new teachers in favor of two-year rolling contracts.

What the far left on this board doesn't understand is Joe Average is not behind the unions. He sees unions employees making more and doing less. Then he sees them retiring with a lot more. You can show me all the push polls with leading questions you want on Wisconsin. In the big picture Joe Average isn't paranoid about the Koch Brothers. Joe Average doesn't see a capitalist bogeyman around every corner. Across the country Joe Average isn't pro union.

Dear Warren, I wish I were far better at the inticracies of the computer because I so wanted to copy you an article from Milwaukee Magazine of Tuesday 3/8/2011 by Bruce Murphy. Alas, I am not very talented in computerese! So I hope you will find a way to access this article.
Keep in mind that Milwaukee Magazine is not a left wing rag by a long shot. Also keep in mind that the author is not considered particularly liberal. In this article he does a very unique non-left, non-right assessment of Scott Walker's situation, which I hope you and others on this comment thread are able to access.
I am most interested in your and others' thoughts about this article if anyone will take the time to search it out.
Sincerely,
