    • Republicans vs. Democrats again and again. Both parties benefit from breaking people into groups. Only when citizens will unite and start voting for the united country's benefits informed about foreign and domestic policies we all will benefit and greedy, corrupt political games will end. How about it my fellow Americans?

    • actually, one solution is to stop voting entirely. all of us. the real us, not the them/us. the them/us will be hiding indoors during the next election.

That is not a solution unless you plan on a massive education campaign; highlighting the similarities between the parties and how they vote. Religion rears its ugly head come election time; every-time. The vote is controlled by Fear, Faith, and Pocketbook!

I think a better solution would be to make it a law that everyone has to vote. One person one vote. Oregon mail in ballets are an awesome way to vote. Zero pressure and time to really become informed about the implications of a measure or the motives of a candidate. No waiting in line or need to drive to a voting booth.

    • Warren Merrill is a stooge. The sooner we ignore him when he starts spewing the L word the better. When he decides to speak to people instead of down then we maybe, should waste our time trying to debate him. Until that point I will not even respond with anything other than down vote.

Warren after your comment on gun control I thought there might have been a little reason in you. Count me disappointed. When you come hear and throw the crap you throw it is obvious you are a stooge for whoever suits your fancy today. If you want true Libertarianism go live in Somalia.

    • I saw this last night and I am outraged! WI has become ground zero for voter caging. What needs to happen is an ACORN like organization to take the reins on getting every potential Dem voter properly registered with proper ID prior to the elections. They can't win a fight fairly, so they have to cheat in every way possible.

You are right, the Republicans are using every dirty trick in the book. I just wonder why the rest of us are so concerned with playing by the rules. A general strike would definitely take things in another direction. It would pin Walker to the wall. But that kind of action should not be the first thing considered as it would literally put livelihoods at risk. But voter registration anomalies remind me of the Florida 2000 election. Things sure are getting dicey, it’s almost as if they are trying to force people into taking drastic action so they can ramp up the police state. http://sibob.org/wordpress/

Yes, the Reps are well trained provocateurs. Right wingers all have their undies in a bundle over the way Wisconsinites are putting true democracy to work in Madison. They can't counteract it by winning the straightforward debate so they try diversionary tactics to sway public opinion. They are getting frustrated that it's not working this time. It's scaring them and making them take even more desperate and despicable actions. The people of WI have to stay united, know when it is a dirty trick coming out of the Karl Rove playbook and just give the democracy haters the big middle finger. If the proresters stay peaceful and Walker sends in the riot police, it will be so blatantly obvious who the source of the violence is, just as it was in Egypt. You can't fool all of the people all of the time and that's a bitter pill for the right wing echo chamber to swallow.

But back to the main subject there's no reason why a voter shouldn't have to ID themselves properly. It keeps two constituent groups of the Democratic party, illegals and dead people from voting. It's not hard to get a legal ID. I believe legal aliens who are paying taxes should be allowed to vote.

I don't see any national ramifications to Wisconsin in terms of the right losing momentum. It is possible the unions may have saved their tails to die another day. The far left is a small minority. A majority of voters see them as extreme as the far right. I know plenty of Democrats. Some are friends and family. They are far removed from the extreme fringe I often see on this site.

You sound frightened, WM. That is when irrational, factless drivel starts flying faster and more furious. The trouble with you of the ill-informed, head-in-the-sand, only read the FOX headlines crowd is that the moderates and independents are joining with the liberals as they are seeing that they at least have a soul inside their bodies and they possess heartfelt conviction. Empty suits like you aren't very attrractive to most living, breathing individuals. This was the wake up call for the masses and you will soon find that out. You of course are free to believe what you want to, because your ilk has been controlling the show the last 30 years. But, people are starting to see you for what you are. Whores to the ultra-rich. Is the blood rushing to your head from all the time you spend bent over to pay your respects to your masters?

Liberal rules: When the truth hurts, lash out. I have nothing to fear and no master to answer to due to the path I took after high school. I can only guess you're angry from taking the path of tyranny where a union controls your destiny and you must bow to them.

I don't belong to a union, bright boy. I just know what great things the unions have done for this country and we can all thank them for. Including you. Where do you get your inspiration from? Counting your money? Unions don't require anyone to bow to them. They have been about raising the standard of all working people and since the unions have been under assault, all working people have suffered. But you elite fucks wouldn't know about that. You should read up on it some time. My brother-in-law is a proud member of the Steelworkers Union and they are just one of the many that have made this country great, you ingrate.

I don't dread liberals. I enjoy pointing out the fallacies of their thinking and debating. And I don't insult posters. DIsagreeing is not an insult. In my view I haven't been dressed down once. I figure insults are when the other party has run out of intelligent points to post. When I see insults I figure the other side has surrendered the debate.

A case where dead people voted? Come to Memphis. The Ford family has the largest funeral home. And Harold Sr. was a congressman for years, Harold Jr. was a congressman and ran for US Senate, John was a state senator, after he went to jail his sister Ophelia took his seat, Joe was county mayor, Joe Jr. was on the county commission, the Ford family run the city of Memphis. Edmund was on the city counsil until he was caught taking bribes, now Edmund Jr. holds the seat. And it all started because they own the largest funeral home in town.

You know nothing of unions, shut your mouth. You act as though we are slaves to our respective unions, you dumb ass we the members are the unions. Our unions can't do anything without our approval, its all a democratic process, our ELECTED business agents (who make no more than we the members do) negotiate for our contracts and we the members vote on whether or not we agree with negotiated contract, contract votes are a majority rule, Meetings are run in a parliamentary procedure, we all can see the bills, we even vote before paying bills, we ALL know where our money goes(politically, charitable, financially, educationally, death benefits and bills every dollar is accounted for), We donate thousands of hours worth of labor each year to low income elderly people and churches(In my case Im a plumber), we donate money to numerous charities, we are the highest trained in our fields (excellence in training and education) we have licenses for things our non signatory counterparts have never heard of. YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT SO QUIT BEING A DICK.

So why do you feel so dead set on keeping hardworking middle class people from achieving their American dream. To you they are scum who don't deserve the same privileges of life you have achieved. How many children have you taught? How many people have you pulled from burning buildings? But you speak of these good people with derision. What is wrong with you? You have a serious psychological defect to be against these people. Like most of the GOP have. You hate all mankind that don't belong to the same political party as you or has the same personal worth as you do. Inspiration? Oh puh-lese. And you right-wingers don't have a problem that the bulk of your taxes go to fight unprovoked, illegal wars. Yeah, tell me how high a moral standard you have. But I donate to charity! Is that your way of justifying all of your other heinous beliefs and hatred for your fellow man? And don't deny that you don't. You make that very well known here on a regular basis. So take your empty words and stow them.

I don't have a comprehension issue, you have a writing issue. If they are supposedly donating the bulk of their money to Dems, which I still don't beleve that to be true of Buffett, Gates and especially Eisner (he's as right wing as they come as CEO of Disney), they would mean they support a more liberal agenda. That would be highly unbelievable. I'll use your tactic of unsubstantiated facts here that you deal in on a regular basis. I would tend to believe Maddow over your claims, because she has proven to be a lot more factual than you ever will.

    • Folks, start mobilizing in your own communities, particularly if you're in a swing district/state. They're making it harder to vote, but not impossible. For the most part, they're requiring ID's for voting. The poor & college students have this problem. If you're a citizen, you can get an ID, just get off your duffs and do it. Some state may not allow college students to vote in their college towns. OK, organize car pools and buses to get students back home. Use absentee ballots. Just get out there and vote damn it! If you don't vote, its your fault, not theirs!

Republican, Democrat, or Libertarian; you should be appalled at any American's Liberty, any American's Constitutional right to vote being flushed down the toilet by people who do not give a shit about you.

The interesting thing about this story is that it is happening on the state level so national media is not covering it. If not for Rachel, I would have no idea what these state legislatures were up to. Now with the tsunami I expect even less to be heard in the next weeks; but government in these states will still be passing and signing laws.

I believe he wanted to do significant things. Health care was one of them. Even when the dems ruled congress he couldn't get what he wanted. it took a year to get what he did.Partly because some dems wouldn't back him. Then when dems tried to have town hall meeting, the tea party wouldn't let them speak. Death panals scared people. Their are some good things in the bill he got, if not repealed.Perhaps he spent to much time on H.C.
Then all the filibusters hurt him. Now with the new house he will have more problems. He got a lot done in the lame duck, but I hated he had to give an extention of tax cuts to the rich so he could save tax cuts for middle class, extend unemployment. I don't know what two more years will bring, but will vote for him in 2012. Changing parties is not always a good idea, as the states are proving..

There simply isn't enough movement from our perspective, to fuel the change we both want and desperately need! We have to act. God has given us the ability to do so, and it is up to us whether we squander that opportunity or not. It will take a great and mighty force, to counter the force of money which is aligned against us.

If we don't rise now, we may not ever get another chance to do so, without risking the loss of most of our lives. They are determined to take us down, whether we resist or not. We could do that while they are still here. I live in an very rural place where the population has never had as much money as was brought by the housing bubble. There is a utter and complete lack of political involvement here by liberals except on environmental issues. South down the Oregon coast there were anti-war protesters that frequented a main intersection of the coast highway but our numbers make us inconsequential in politics and many unions were broken up in early 2000-2001. Portland has the largest population and rules the politics of the State even though the capitol is Salem. Idaho has similar population issues.

The great lakes area, on the other hand needs to act. I think they should start protesting at their local T.V and radio stations because, in the end, it is the media that is failing to communicate the issues properly; or even at all.
