5 reactors in peril in Japan - It's time to stock up on food! WTF?

There are two areas near Tokyo that between them have 9 nuclear reactors, of these 5 are in peril of explosion. If only one of them were to explode, the others would follow. The ecological disaster that would follow is tremendous, let alone the economic devastation that is already underway. This event will change the world as we know it, and it looks like we aren't even going to make it to the much touted 2012.

My mother, who processes claims for injured workers who are subjected to radiation and other toxic substances working on government contracted jobs, called me to advise me to stock up on dried and canned goods in the event that such a disaster should befall us. I reminded her that radiation stays in the environment for hundreds if not thousands of years and that there would not be any way to store up enough food even to last a couple of years.

She said that the initial fallout is the worst and affects the immediate food supply, however, there would be a falling off of the danger many months out from the ground zero event. Putting away non-perishables that could last a year is not a bad idea. These would be things like rice, dried legumes, canned goods and powdered milk.

I am putting this out there in case anyone is actually interested in talking about his issue and has ideas of how to go about storing and protecting the food supply.

Let us hope and pray that nothing terrible comes of the explosions and heating up of these five nuclear reactors and that the issues can be resolved...for all our sakes.
