When is a car ready for scrapping

People often attach great emotional importance to their cars, after all they typically last around 12 years and even if they are brought second or third hand they often give many years of loyal service. In addition as they age they develop their own personalities. In my battered old Corsa I know just where the clutch sticks and how to shut that front door which wasn’t quite repaired properly after I caught it on my parent’s gate. These little issues give your car a personality with which we instinctively bond.
This however leads to a problem, after years of knowing the car we don’t always accept that it is becoming unsafe and that the time has come to scrap it.
