The Great Dictator: Charlie Chaplin's speech is still relevant today

sbacker
A great edit of Charlie Chaplin's speech from The Great Dictator mixed with footage of today's political turmoil. It makes as much sense now as it did in 1940.

    • i agree with you we must never stop fighting for a better life a better future .
but the Oligarchs wont stop as well they are the other side of the coin i do not want us as a people to fail but some country have failed and the Oligarchs have gained the rewards .

like the dictators of the past hitler starlin pol pot the moment they do evil is the moment that a clock starts ticking and that clock counts down the time when freedom will return to the people

i do rember that people are going through this and it saddens me seeing this . it hurts i have gone through bad time i was molested and beaten and mentally tormented on a daily basis as a child and i and i am still recovering from this . i know this is not has bad as many people in contrys that have dictactors and Oligarchs but evil is evil no matter who is doing it .

i remember it i live it every day

It is a wonderful speech, but how do we cure the Mental Illness that creates the Oligarchs?"

i think thats the point of the speech. may be the Mental Illness that creates the Oligarchs?" is the opposite side of the same coin with out evil how do we messure good . when are we truley free when we fight for our freedom. but we can not fight for something thats not at risk

i once heard this in a episode of doctor who years ago to win is to lose and to lose is to win . i always thourght this ment was that sucess and failure was inter conected may be this is also true for freedom and slavery

    • Bill_Alford:

it is. it's just that some of us remember going through this once before.

to steal from a famous movie:

Gentlemen, progress has never been a bargain. You have to pay for it. Sometimes I think there’s a man who sits behind a counter and says, “Alright, you can have a telephone, but you lose privacy and the charm of distance.” “Madam, you may vote, but at a price. You lose the right to retreat behind the powder-puff or your petticoat.” “Mr., you may conquer the air, but the birds will lose their wonder and the clouds will smell of gasoline.”

We just have to keep trying to stop the Oligarchs as best we can so we can progress to a better future rather than return to a horrible past.
