In a St. Patrick's Day address, and later in an interview with WMUR, Republican Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich was critical of President Obama, saying that Obama "talks loudly, but doesn't have a stick," referring to Obama's recent comments that Muammar Ghadafi "has to go."

Gingrich compared "stickless" Obama to former Presidents Eisenhower and Reagan, giving assurances that Ghadafi would have been taken care of "quietly" by the CIA under those Presidents, as were Mossadegh in Iraq and Allende in Chile. No mention was made regarding recent uprisings in other dictatorially-led nations in the region, such as Yemen and Bahrain, whose dictators have used lethal violence against protestors but who are more solid friends with the US. However, unrest in Yemen and Bahrain has not resulted in interruption of trade with petroleum corporations - while the situation in Libya has resulted in paralysis of that sector of the oil business

On February 28, 2011, well after the beginning of unrest and at a time when protesters seemed to have the upper hand in Libya, Berkshire Hathaway's subsidiary, Business Wire, published promotional material highlighting developing opportunities in Libya's oil market, including analysis of the impact of current unrest. Increased opportunities for exploitation of Libya's oil resources by the West's Corporate sector may be a hoped-for result of military involvement of Western nations in Libya's civil war if the West can influence post-Ghadafi leadership.

    • True. But GINGRICH DOESN'T HAVE A DICK. So, there's the pot calling the
kettle black, as usual. For once I'd like to see someone other than a self
serving hypocrite like Gingrich say and do anything he thought he could
get away with to posture himself. Nobama IS a wimpy, spineless, gasbag w/o
integrity or veracity. It's another political Show Biz gig for Obama. What Nobama
parroted about Private Bradley Manning compared to what H.R. Rep.Cucinich
proved is absolute proof Nobama is merely another chump. Nobama 's only
another poser undeserving to occupy 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, same as Bush,
Reagan, Nixon, Ford/Rockefeller or Gingrich for Christ's sake. None of them
have/had the guts to even propose the radical changes the USA needs,
obviously not. But they're only pulling their opponents down to weasel into
position themselves. Instead of Gingrich proving he's the same as Nobama
with the reputation as liar Gingrich has, I'd like to see him try to prove he's any
thing different. His history also shows he can talk the talk but not walk the walk.

Does Gingrich think we forgot his BS when he was in the House in the 1990"s ?
If you really want to see the used up, disreputable has been Gingrich really is,
then look at the con game he was spinning last Autumn in 2010. He was trying
to raise the false flag of terrorism to appeal to Americans fear. How novel. Bush
had already done that 10 years before. He must assume we're all addled with senility/dementia with the kind of memory loss he plays us for. Appealing to
others' fear & cowardice is so low & foul, it's repulsive. It's the morally bankrupt
Corporate Fascism w noone worth his salt at the helm causing this whiplash
reaction of terrorism. Gingrich doesn't want to stop it. He wants to exploit it as
Bush did. It's the depraved new cash cow. How many Homeland Insecurity
scandles have we blogged here on Current.com The FBI/CIA are the worst
terrorists of them all. We have evidence to prove it. You're still batting 0 Gingrich
to all except the fools who buy your lines of shit. Nobama & Holder remind me
of Anus & Andy, yes. And you should know Gingrich. It takes one to know one.
Despite your tricks, thats still no earthly reason to vote for you. Piss off, creep.

Whew. Yes. Gingrich was outted by one of our reps, Jim McDermott, when tapes of cordless phone conversations he had contradicting his statements to the House (lies) were made public. As I recall this was part of what got Gingrich busted, but that could be wrong. Jim got sued for releasing the tapes (the truth) by Gingrich, and lost - it was a technical right-to-privacy issue (can you believe) and the courts found McDermott guilty and he lost on appeal.

Let's run that past us one more time: Gingrich lied to Congress and some Florida couple somehow came to record Gingrich's phone call revealing the lie. The recording artist gave the tape to McDermott, who released it. Gingrich got busted, but sued McDermott for revealing the truth to America about ol' Newt. Gingrich prevailed over McDermott, who was revealing the truth about Gingrich's lies. Do I have that right? What a goofy place.

Dead on target. Thanks for bringing up one of Gingrich's scandles he
assumed everyone forgot about. He realy does think this is a country of
fools whose memory is a shot glass TV fills up daily for them to empty
out so they can refiill it with something new. No memory, no mind. No mind
no learning. So they're his fools ? HA ! I edited my comment to reflect yours.

    • Mind you, Mossadegh and Allende were both democratically elected leaders that ran afoul of the West. Overthrowing Mossadegh led to the eventual overthrow of the Shah, the kidnapping of our diplomats and the rise of the current unfriendly regime in Iraq. The overthrow of Allende led to the brutal Pinochet regime that tortured and killed thousands of its citizens, He really shouldn't go crowing about either of these. If we're smart, we'll stay of Libya, we'll likely end up with a extremist regime there anyway. By the way, I hear his second wife wants him to run, so she can publicly trash him. Boy, that would be fun.

Right you are, though the point wasn't related to how they became president, king, colonel, whatever - the kernel of the lesson is the US feels it ought to be able to kill a head of state if it wants, based upon differences of opinion. That usually favor Corporate, rather than human, interests.
