RECENT EARTHQUAKES AND FUTURE PREDICTIONS

A new report released today in the Kremlin prepared for Prime Minister Putin by the Institute of Physics of the Earth, in Moscow, is warning that the Americas are in danger of suffering a mega-quake of catastrophic proportions during the next fortnight (14 days) with a specific emphasis being placed on the United States, Mexico, Central America and South American west coast regions along with the New Madrid Fault Zone region. While this is interesting, and could possibly happen, pinning the date down to the next two weeks is both upsetting and possibly irresponsible.

Experts agree the big one is coming. Japan's was telltale, and Christchurch's was overdue. After spending months in that region last year, consulting with several local governments, none was ready to concede there was much need in upgraded public safety. Now, after two tsunamis (neither major as to NZ) and several earthquakes (two destroying Christchurch) there may be cause for alarm.

While we all agree that the Russians have great scientists, the US is at the forefront of earthquake knowledge. Caltech and the NOAA's Tsunami Warning System are the envy of the World. The job they do is both magical and important. While in Tahiti last year, I knew and reported to the five local Tahitian governments and three New Zealand cities of a "wave in the water" several hours before the French Government alerted the Tahitian government that they would be impacted and to alert their public. Why? NOAA told me within 14 minutes of the Chilean earthquake which kicked that wave. I knew of the earthquake within 3 or 4 minutes because the USGS alerted me.
