Please you don't need government permission to get married. You don't need majority of people to get married either. If they not recognize you and you not recognize them.

It helps if the government recognizes you as, you know, human. And as a citizen. And as worthy of the same benefits as everyone else.

This is stupid its a big ol fight about semantics , washington post/abc same organization that conducted this poll conducted a poll in 2004 saying 51 percent were in favor of civil unions. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4496265/ns/us_news-same-sex_marriage/
More proof the gay leadership does not know what its doing , it should have gone for civil unions first , they would already have it by now , hell they might have got it before clinton left office and then if it was still a big issue in there community seek to get the name modified once the public had got used to civil unions.
Dont get mad i said it , remember Elton John said it first.

Anyone that does not recognize a gay or lesbian person as a human is terrible person to say the lesser and obviously they do not see the value in human expressing and choice n

Let us also hope that some Americans are gradually accepting that all people are entitled to the same civil rights and human rights as others.

Polls aren't my thing. The only polls that matter are the ones on election day. Maybe I'm spoiling the parade, a little. Sorry. If gains are being made, it's because people are finally fed up and getting off our ass's.

As I've said since I heard Kinky Freedman say it.
"They have the right to be as miserable as everyone else"
Still think marriage should cost 2000 bucks and divorce should cost 25 but I'm anti marriage period.

Because I'm always leery of poll information where the question and sampling are not included I went digging. Here's the original ABC press release ....

If you read the link I posted and look at the demographic breakdowns you will find it's generational more than moral and intellectual. While tolerance is up in each age bracket it's the youngest bracket that makes the significant difference.

Good question.
I am not sure you can separate intellect and morality - in some sense, morality is a function of intellect, isn't it?

I don't think the fact that the poll reflects generational differences argues against moral or intellectual progress - the two are not mutually exclusive, are they?

Is he suggesting that younger generations do not evolve both morally and intellectually?

He didn't say "more than anything else". He stated "the significant difference"; that which distinguishes significant from that which is insignificant, and does not quantify the variant.

I'm suggesting younger people have grown up in an environment where they have been more exposed to the idea gay marriage is acceptible. A person on the far right might suggest the educational system and media has indoctrinated them to think this way. When I was in my late twenties a couple of my friends we're still in the "Psst, keep it quiet but I'm gay" mode. It was the norm then.
