http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/videonetwork/836414400001/Hundreds-of-LSD-stu...: 12:05 P.M. -- LANSING -- Lansing School District officials have confirmed that more 300 students face possible suspension for skipping school today to protest education cuts at the Capitol.“According to the Lansing schools code of conduct, participation in (the protest) is a non-excused absence, which does warrant some level of disciplinary action,” said Annie Rzepecki, spokeswoman for the Lansing School District. “That has yet to be determined.
Rzepecki said the disciplinary action could include suspension.
This morning, students from Eastern, Everett and Sexton high schools descended on the Capitol, mainly to protest cuts to K-12 education proposed by Gov. Rick Snyder.
The largest group of students - about 200 from Eastern High School - marched about 11 blocks from the school's parking lot along the sidewalks to the Capitol, where they congregated on the building's steps with other students from Everett and Sexton high schools.
Many waved picket signs that read "No Cuts to Education" and "We're walking out because we're not giving in!" before the group moved into the Capitol rotunda, filling all three floors and chanting "Save our Schools!" and "No More Cuts!"
Neither the Senate nor the House is in session today.
Rachel Jackson, 17, an Eastern junior who organized the rally through the Facebook social networking site, said the rally was not sanctioned by the school and she was essentially skipping school to protest. Jackson said school administrators had told her students participating in the rally could be suspended.
"We're fighting for our teachers. That's worth a suspension," Jackson said.
Last month, Snyder proposed education cuts that could average $470 per pupil for K-12 schools. Students at the rally said they also are concerned about a newly passed emergency manager bill, signed Wednesday by Snyder, that would broaden powers of state-appointed managers over struggling school districts and curb teachers' collective bargaining rights.
Brenden Weeks, 18, a sophomore from Eastern, said he was protesting today because he was tired of education cuts that have resulted in students relying on outdated textbooks, broken copiers and recycled paper at Eastern.
"If they take away the education funding, there is no hope in Michigan's future," Weeks said. "If we don't fight for it, who is going to fight for it?"
Organizers said they planned to remain at the Capitol today until mid-afternoon.

I respect these kids for taking to the streets. They need to make it clear where they stand. This is again an abuse of power. The corporate american fascists just want to make these future slave soldiers, once they reach eighteen. This is going to be their world in a generation and they need to start now taking a stand.
One other point, LSD , (not Lansing School District), is one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century. For those of you who demonize it, you only show how ignorant you are. Biological and cultural evolution depend on studies of consciousness and awareness. LSD is integral to understanding our brains. The only danger with LSD that is well known is that people who already have personality disorders should not take it outside of therapy.

LSD is one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century, you say? This isn't Charlie Sheen is it?
Is it by disagreeing with you, is that what you consider demonizing L.S.D., and showing myself to be ignorant? While L.S.D. may have it's value's in the world of recreational drugs, as a good time, and sometimes a bad time, and as a drug aid, in the hands of a trained, psychiatric doctor, it is by no means one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century. O.K., now, to squelch your intellectually thuggish statement, accusing those who do not share your elated love for Lysergic acid diethylamide, to be ignorant, allow me to ameliorate. According to studies, LSD has been used in psychiatry for its perceived therapeutic value, in the treatment of alcoholism, pain and cluster headache relief, for spiritual purposes, and to enhance creativity. However, government organizations like the United States Drug Enforcement Administration maintain that LSD "produces no aphrodisiac effects, does not increase creativity, has no lasting positive effect in treating alcoholics or criminals, does not produce a 'model psychosis', and does not generate immediate personality change. Now, I do NOT respect the DEA's take on much, however, I am NOT ignorant to the truths of the above statement. I have experimented with LSD, and yeah, it was a trip. Life changing? No.
I guess my challenge for you is this, why not tell us the reasons why you believe that LSD is, "one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century. You said, "For those of you who demonize it, you only show how ignorant you are." Please enlighten us, the ignorant, who disagree with you, captain cosmonaut, what has Lysergic acid diethylamide done for the World, to get such accolades, from yourself. Please exclaim all of the wonders and miracles that LSD has done for society, so we, the little people, are not left in the void of ignorance, that you have so graciously pointed out for us. Please expand! - 2 years ago

Hey jesus...
You know I could spend hours taking apart the indignance you posted; however, why should I waste my time on such poor reasoning. Look, if LSD has done only one good thing in the world, it will have been to expose you, (and those who stand behind your post), for the enemies of liberty you are, as well as someone with so little imagination all they can do is parrot the hate of the corporatocracy!Hey look you have something in common with your hero:
Beck on Gloria Steinem: "You self-centered, self-righteous, socialist, out-of-control, dangerous, man-hating bitch." Responding to Gloria Steinem's statement that John McCain would be treated differently if he were a woman, Beck exclaimed: "You self-centered, self-righteous, socialist, out-of-control, dangerous, man-hating bitch. Shut your mouth. We might have bought into this crap in the 1960s because too many people were doing LSD. We're not on LSD anymore. You need to start making sense." [The Glenn Beck Program, 5/3/2008]

Lol, huh? Wow, you really roasted me there!
It is extremely clear, you avoid validating your statements, because you have no validation! Take some more LSD and STFU! People like you make libs look like a bunch of ignorant teenagers. Yeah, come on lets all drop acid man and the world will be great. Get a job, a shave, a hair cut and a life! - 2 years ago

And by your comments I can tell you are no LIBERAL, but you are the very immature child and poor reasoner Glen Beck is. Casting yourself a liberal is absurd. I will not tell you to STFU because I'm not as ignorant as you. I will call you an impertinent loser. I will also remind everyone it's because of ignorant attitudes by this idiot that perpetuates the endless war on drugs, as well as incarceration of non-violent offenders at the cost of our tax dollars, (some of whom indeed may have medical issues).
One other point Jesus was not a liberal. He said you could deny him or his father, but if you denied the Holy Spirit you would burn forever. I call that stupid and hatefull! - 2 years ago

^'d I'm with you on that! So many people in this country would benefit from the occasional mind-altering substance. In particular, those who use the phrase "think outside the box". How sad to keep your brain in a box.
P.S. In the 80's, someone on Haight Street gave me a little piece of blotter acid with the image of a little black ant printed on it. It was GREAT stuff. About 15 years later, I was reminiscing about that trip and I finally got the joke...

Can anyone say, holiday. If more students knew they would be suspended I am sure more would have attended the protest. The republicans are fucking with the wrong group when they threaten children.

This appears to be a form of retaliation by the School District..It is a disgrace for unscrupulous Republican Governors, and other office holders to make devastating cuts in Education and other programs, just to line the pockets of millionaires, and billionaires who don't really need the money...Teachers are already over worked and under paid, and some class-room sizes are maxed out...These students shouldn't have to face any harsh disciplinary actions for exercising their right to protest..After all, they are the leaders of tomorrow!

So, the government can treat education like a leach, but the students are expected to respond with any level of respect at all....all this bs about teachers being over paid is bound to send a message about the importance of education to our children.

Go to Michael Moore's site. He has all the details on all things Lansing. I think they should keep protesting. Their educational futures will be shredded by this nutjob in the governor's mansion.
