Explicit Photographs Released of American Soldiers Murdering Afghan Civilians

Five of the soldiers involved in the killings are now facing court martial proceedings for the deaths of three, unarmed Afghan civilians. The men are accused of faking combat situations to justify killing randomly chosen Afghans with grenades and guns. The case came to light after one of the soldiers informed military investigators about the killings; he was then beaten so severely by other members of the unit for betraying them that he had to be hospitalized.
The photographs are reminiscent of the torture and humiliation suffered by Iraqis at the hands of American troops in the Abu Ghraib prison, which came to light in the spring of 2004. However, there were dozens of those pictures and they clearly showed the victims’ faces, making their pain all the more apparent. That case reverberated across the Muslim world in ways that this case has yet to do, in part because of the absence of photographs. The release of these images threatens to change that.
This piece includes the shocking photographs, as well as a video of the “Kill Team” soldiers telling about the killings and cover-ups.

I can not imagine what goes through the mind of a person who commits such acts of cruelty and violence. The men are posing with their kill like they would after a hunt. Their behavior is beastly, demonic, to call them animals is blasphemous, I never heard of an animal doing this for the thrill of it. They are not sick they are just evil. These were innocent victims.
I can only hope that this is a sick and shameful joke.

hello these SEMBLANCES of HUMANS are the products of a hypermasculinized, anti-intellectual culture that allows men to survive with ANIMAL SOULS. no real HUMAN MAN would ever gloat over another humans death. that victim a little BOY at that. he doesn't even have LEG HAIR yet. our culture breeds these animals, KNOWING they will have the power thirst to enlist in an unfounded war. they were bred this way.

Here's a quote from the article in the Brtiish paper the Guardian I earlier posted on this story:
" The lengthy Spiegel article that accompanies the photographs contains new details about the sadistic behaviour of the men.
In one incident in May last year, the article says, during a patrol, the team apprehended a mullah who was standing by the road and took him into a ditch where they made him kneel down.
The group's leader, Staff Sergeant Calvin Gibbs, then allegedly threw a grenade at the man while an order was given for him to be shot.
Afterwards, Gibbs is described cutting off one of the man's little fingers and removing a tooth.
The patrol team later claimed to their superiors that the mullah had tried to threaten them with a grenade and that they had no choice but to shoot."
This, Map72, how we know that "it isn't the enemy" We read.
We read reports collaborated by US military investigators as well as independent European news organizations (from our allies, you'll note, in case you plan to rag on the suspect motive of "foreigners"). - 1 year ago

So this is how we win hearts and minds. I mentioned on the other thread about this same subject that I've heard about this sick stuff on Michael Moore's web site more than once. This is the kind of people the military lets in...because they are so desparate to get people to sign up because there is no draft. I do commend the soldier who came forward. Glad he still has a soul. These wars we are in are Vietnam all over again. Disgusting. End the damn wars. We don't need them. I was looking over the comments on this thread. This isn't about making Obama look bad and who cares if it does. He's the one that said he would end these wars. He isn't. All this thread is doing is exposing truth. This is what you don't see or hear about. This is what our military is up to. Just like when Bradley Manning exposed it. Obama is complicit. Sorry folks but that's the truth. Remember the old saying "War is not healthy for children or other living things." Still stands.

You're pathetic. I love how you say "stop being a sheep", too. It's so ironic.
Also... below you say"As for these pics they are taken out of context you or I don't know what happened. I do know in a war zone all bets are off its just great to stay alive on either side. So don't be so quick to cast stones. They might throw them back."
Well, you're right. You nor I know what happened. However, if it were a dangerous situation, I doubt they would stop and take pictures of themselves with a half dead person. Even if it were a dangerous situation, it would still be cruel and heartless.

You do of course realize that AMERICA has started every major military action since the end of the Korean War. EVERY ONE. War doesn't have to be around if we don't want it.
As for these pictures, we have seen this pattern before, and of course the higher ups that ordered that crap were never sent to the brig. Making war and living in a warrior srate is not optimal. This is hardly Sparta.

This is not how you win hearts & minds or spread democracy. Military leadership & Government could learn something from the soldier who came forward, sometimes the only way to stop the insanity is to admit your role in it.
The decent, honorable soldiers are wasting their time and losing their lives in vain because of loose cannon soldiers like these.
They could build the best hospitals and hand out candy to children all day - but their uniforms and our country will always be remembered as "kill teams" who hunt the local civilians for sport.

This thread seems to be designed to trash America and President Obama more than trash the actions of less than a dozen renegade soldiers. Many of the comments are trashing America as a whole instead of the actions of the individuals responsible.
@KB723 says, "I would live to remember how an entire country did that"
-These atrocities were not committed by the people of America but by less than a dozen criminal soldiers.@s_peak says, Americans are no better than Nazis and claims WWII was for making money instead of stopping Hitler and his Nazis from making Europe (at a minimum) a Nazi Empire. He/she/it uses 2 examples of people awarded medals from Nazis (without links) to impeach all the people in our country, and claims, "Our government is the worst kind of tyranny..."
@samthesixth says, "Pics of Obama's war".
It's clear to see who the America haters are OR are these anti-America comments made by Republican operatives designed to pollute the minds of CurrentTV commenters who love our country that won't ordinarily vote for Republicans who are claiming America has been taken over by "them", Obama is bad, and that our government is to big? I believe they are either Republican operatives, foreign America haters, or anarchists.
The soldier perps are charged with crimes and are awaiting trials. Vetting military applicants better and or vetting commanding officers better would make this terrible kind of event less likely but will not stop them entirely in any war zone.

Can anyone still argue that we're better than the Nazis? If so... please do. Keep in mind that several American CEOs of the time received Nazi medals (Henry Ford, and the CEO of IBM) ... we also sold oil to the Nazis... the same oil we put in our tanks and planes. AND... after the Nuremberg trials, we even recruited some high ranking Nazis directly into our government. I'm sorry to say that WWII was NOT a benevolent act... we profited in more ways than one in that war.
I'm tired of this shit. Wake up people. Our government is the worst kind of tyranny... We lie to our own people and steal their lives, money, and time... so that we can seek power by funding genocide in various forms, then we pretend that we're heroes. It's sickening.

I still think were better than the Nazis. We are moving into a realm that makes me want to move, very quickly from this country, but for now, we may have a chance. It will take the entire will of the people, but we may have to take our country back.
AS far as selling oil to the Nazis, talk to the Bush family, they were Hitler's banker.
We are not the best but we are far from the worst. We have fallen far and I literally cry over the loss of what we have lost. But if our free will decides to take back our country, we can. - 1 year ago

These are the actions of a few sick and twisted individuals. These are neither systemic nor sanctioned. War allows Monsters to roam and fortunately there are Professionals who are there to stop the Monsters and then make sure they are punished properly.
The real problem comes with the Mercenaries that are there. They are not under Service Regs. Some of those Monsters are much harder to stop.

Rather than relinquishing all form of control on your emotions--disconnecting yourself with reality, be a conscientious objector. Your own lack of information is how your government exploits you. Do your research.
You know, they say if we didn't have volunteers that we'd have drafts; that is not necessarily true. In any other form of government, maybe, but not in our democracy. Regardless of what people say, we fundamentally have the right to decide such matters. Be cautious not to be roped in by the "heroism" playing card--they will use it against you, persuasively.
Maybe I'm speaking out of line, here, but these are some of my immediate thoughts. While I cannot necessarily empathize directly, I can sympathize with these soldiers' conditions. In order to deal with the act of combat, your brain needs to be essentially re-wired. Few understand the repercussions derived from this. I want a more educated military.

That's funny... I'm pretty sure Afghanistan was started when Bush was in office. AND, I don't blame Bush for the way the soldiers at Abu Ghraib behaved.
