Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants

Abstract

Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.

The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and HIV dementia.

Nonpsychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidoil, are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity that is encountered with psychoactive cannabinoids at high doses useful in the method of the present invention.
A particular disclosed class of cannabinoids useful as neuroprotective antioxidants is formula (I) wherein the R group is independently selected from the group consisting of H, CH.sub.3, and COCH.sub.3. ##STR1##

Sir, how dare you suggest that law enforcement is profiting from the prohibition of marijuana. To make that claim the cops. DA, Public defenders, city and county treasures, prison guards, half way houses, counselors and anyboby else you could think of would be making a living or partial living from prohibition. Actually, I had a "friend" in college who thought he could get really high from burning a whole lid* in an ashtray under a blanket. He damned near died of smoke inhalation.... I like your description better.

*Geezer term for about an ounce; not exact because measured in sandwich baggie by several fingers. A 3-4 finger lid for about $10 was pretty common at one time, or so I've heard.

I may have smoked my first joint during the Reagan years but I was only ten at the time. That may seem too young to be smoking weed but that's about the same time my schoolmates were raving about this new drug - Crack. Us little stoners were happy getting hungry & laughing at stupid shit while almost everyone else became either a crackhead or crack dealer before high school.

We used baloons, take a hit hold as usual then exhale - inhale - exhale - inhale - HeadRush! . . Don't recycle the smoke too much though, carbon monoxide builds up each time.

Vitamin C actually dissipates the high from smoking too much weed ( I have yet to find my too much point). Most Coffee Shops in A'Dam sell fresh squeezed orange juice. It comes in handy during the Cannabis Cup when many Americans are not used to smoking the killa kind bud.

Vitamin C never did that for me. However, vitamin C does indeed "break" LSD and Psilocybin trips, cuts them short. Very useful to know if a friend is having a bad trip from either.
