Just one day before St. Patrick’s Day, a dog that should not technically be alive was discovered in the trash.
The dog, a red Pit bull, had been starved to the brink of death. Someone, perhaps assuming that he had finally died, put his body in a trash bag and threw him down a chute inside of a 22 story apartment complex.
Had an astute maintenance worker not been paying attention, the slight movement that the starved dog made would have been missed – the bag containing his emaciated body would have been crushed inside of the trash compactor.
But Patrick has a will to live – enough will that he made his weary limbs move that day. The City of Newark animal control was contacted and they, in turn, contacted the Associated Humane Societies and Popcorn Park.
Patrick was rushed to the Humane Society where he received immediate veterinary care – including fluids, food and heated blankets to warm his gaunt body. He was then transported to the Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls -- a referral hospital with 24 hour emergency care.
Shockingly, the courageous dog survived the night – surprising the veterinary staff. He was able to receive life-saving transfusions and even enjoyed a bath.
There is no word at this time on the search for the depraved individual responsible for Patrick’s condition.
Does such a person have a soul? What would inspire someone to inflict such misery on another living being?
Patrick suffered horribly at the hands of this unknown individual – day after day without food, without water, without compassion. On the day that his deprived body could no longer stand, he was bagged and thrown away. There are no words…..
Patrick is so frail that his prognosis is guarded. But he is receiving the things that he needs right now – he is getting food, fluids, warmth, and most of all, love and compassion.
Veterinary staff reported that the frail dog met their eyes and showed his gratefulness with one imploring gaze. He wants to live.
Anyone wishing to contribute to Patrick’s care can do so by clicking this link.
If you can’t contribute, please share his story and send positive thoughts and prayers to this fragile dog. Let him be filled with love, knowing that people do care.

Law Enforcement "NEEDS" to find the person who did this and lock him/her up for a LONG time! I mean anybody who could do this to an animal WOULD have no problem doing some TWISTED stuff to a child as well.
