Joe didn’t mean it in 2007, of course. He was running for president, after all. The hand-picked minions of the elite who are permitted to pretend they will run the country always tell lies. It’s in their job description. Most Americans understand elections are all about promising the moon and delivering nothing but an IOU. Still, they turn out to vote for these guys.
The elite and their brokers at the United Nations wanted this shabby little war waged against Libya. Biden is simply taking orders, as usual. It does not matter an iota what he said in 2007. And the corporate media, of course, will not hold him to that comment. It found the memory hole long ago, only to be relived by the alternative media, the only media telling the truth in a time of Big Lies of the sort Hitler told.

No one invited us into Iran. The UN didn't sanction it. How can you possibly compare the current situation in Libya to the completely unrelated events of 2007? Why are you ok with a dictator murdering thousands of protesters? That was the alternative. I have yet to hear one person who objects to our assistance with the no-fly-zone explain how it would be ok to let those people die.

It’s like this. Libya only represents 2% of the oil market, and it goes to our allies in Europe. However, the Arab populace across the entire region is demanding rights and an end to corruption. As a political factor they cannot be ignored. Nor can the Arab League, who would love to get rid of Gaddafi and claim that they DO have the interest of the people at heart. We all know the truth is that all parties are trying to hold onto the oil revenues while dealing with insurrection either through placating or repressing. This conflict in Libya has fast moving ramifications beyond its borders. So yes, it’s about oil. It’s about the whole world economy, and that’s why it’s a priority over Ivory Coast, Sudan or Zimbabwe.
But it’s not about oil over people. Our dependency on oil has given the people of Libya leverage on us to turn against their own repressive regime. Their success, along with Egypt’s gives us leverage to promote social change in the region that the people will respect us for. It gives us leverage on the governments that control the oil to either clean up the corruption or fall.
Yes it’s filled with a million pitfalls if we engage, and millions more if we don’t. But with the high stakes at risk, we either come together and focus on developments with care and determination or we let the whole region collapse into bedlam. You wont believe what will happen to your cost of living when transportation becomes too precious.
Yes we want the oil. But if the peoples’ demands for fair treatment in their societies are not met, they can pull the plug on us in their despair. We can’t afford to be on the wrong side of History.
If this were truly about obtaining our oil at the cost of human misery, we would have sided with Gaddafi. Is the thinking of the Republicans clear now? The conservative mind set is to preserve the status quo, even if it’s intolerably cruel and corrupt. It’s xenophobic. Those Muslims don’t deserve the same rights as Christians. It’s so much cleaner when you compartmentalize, only it’s wrong.
Obama is acting on a moral imperative. Not contrived evidence. Huge difference. As long as he’s true to that imperative, he deserves our support as Commander in Chief.

^'d Absolutely! The longer we wait to prosecute the war crimes of the Bush administration, the less likely it will ever happen. Check this out- some of the WMD inspectors who were sent to Iraq used to work at The Lawrence Livermore Laboratory in CA, when it was operated by the UC system. The inspectors did NOT find evidence of WMD, what they found were markings on the cement in some empty buildings that corresponded to the equipment used in their own reactor set-up at the lab. Stains on cement. But you'll never have access to those records, or get anyone at the lab to talk- Bechtel purchased the lab a few years ago, and is involved in a bitter lawsuit with the retirees over cutting pensions and health benefits. Who the fuck knows what they're doing with the reactor in there. Yes, they have one- I've seen it- I've TOUCHED it. It's realllly old. And sitting on the Hayward fault line. I have no idea if it's operating or not- I saw it back in 1970, when my dad brought me in on family day. I was 6. They were using liquid nitrogen as a coolant. Icicles were forming on the outside and I broke some off. It was surreal. And no, my dad is not Homer Simpson. And no part of me glows in the dark. My point is just that we need to get these miserable fucks prosecuted before they die of old age, and everyone who has access to the critical information has retired and left the various places that need to be checked out. We have to get to the people who are willing to talk while they have access. Those places are sealed up like Fort Knox.

"he would work to impeach Bush if he bombed Iran"
I'm not thrilled about what's happening right now in Libya (I feel bad for the people) but I'm glad he said something.
Bush and his gang of profiteering war mongers were pretty busy painting Iran as a threat.
With Iraq it was WMD's. With Iran it's Nukes.Sadly Iran is about the only oil producing country left in that region where we don't already have some sort of political influence or military footprint.
They are all puppets in a big global chess game and even those who we think are calling the shots........they're taking orders from those who are more powerful. - 1 year ago

According to one article I read recently....Afghanistan has some oil pipelines that we're keeping safe. And....according to Benazir Bhutto in her last international interview before she was assassinated she said bin laden had been murdered......and that was years ago.
Why didn't this make it to the MSM in the USA? Was it because Bush needed us to focus on the face of some "enemy" so we wouldn't notice that the people in Iraq had been "liberated" and thanked us but then we wouldn't leave!!
From what I read ...that's when the real trouble started brewing.
They figured out that Bush wanted to "occupy" their country, not save them from a madman.....and we're STILL there!
War = profits for the defense contractors and their investors.... and of course Iraq has some huge oil reserves.I saw a video with copies of Cheney's pre-Iraq income (that's public info when you're in office) and within about 5 years he went from making just over 1 million per year to over 60 million per year.

^'d That was devastating to watch. That poor woman really put herself on the line. I remember at the time of her assassination she was portrayed as a frivolous member of the rich Pakistani aristocracy and it was so difficult to find out what had really happened and why. If memory serves, she was shot at close range- an inside job.
Bin Laden is irrelevant and is most certainly dead- he would never have passed up the opportunity to mock our failing economy. A confirmation of his death might have at least shifted our focus back to the real terrorists- Halliburton, Bechtel, Blackwater, and the many other companies and contractors making billions off of infrastructure- not oil itself.
The oil is almost a red herring. How many conservatives have spewed the mantra that if we had gone into Iraq for oil, gas would be cheaper. So stupid. As if these fucks are doing anything for the benefit of America. On the contrary, they're taking American taxpayer dollars in the form of contracts for nation building on top of the rubble we created. We buy weapons and ammo and explosives to destroy everything, then we pay nearly all the same people to build it up again. They supply the equipment to locate and extract the oil, they build the pipelines to move it, they build the refineries, hell, they probably make the fucking barrels, too. They just keep the oil itself off of their hands, and no one cries foul.
I wonder how many times we've paid to rebuild something that wasn't actually blown up...a report was filed with photos from another site that was destroyed, the money changed hands, and that was the end of it. I do not believe that Barack Obama is playing the same role in the same kind of game as Bush. He was very reluctant to engage in Libya. But we are up against the very worst people. The kind who kill to protect their secrets. What can we do? Are we waiting for Wikileaks to save the world? Where are the hackers with the mad skilz....

This is basically another example of the new Politics 101. It is the job of every politician to put a positive spin on what his/her party does and a negative one on what the opposition party does. Does saying that make anything that comes out of the Beltway any more palatable? No. I think most of us have started to become immune to this, chalking it up as just another day at the office for these guys and gals. It is rare to find any pol who is consistent with his opinions or possess any real ideals regarding the actions of either side of the aisle. I can name a few, but in this age of ultra-partisanship it is becoming ever more rare. It's what has bred the total gridlock that the political process has become and only enhanced the atmosphere of the backdoor deals and political favors. The good guys are really getting outnumbered. Collegiality in the House/Senate? I think not.

The US does not have a vested interest in Libya. The amount of oil purchased by the US from Libya is negligible. After Qadaffi runs, no one is in charge and all hell breaks loose, what do you think happens next? We go in on the ground, maintain civil obedience and nation build. This has a very good possibility of being another Iraq or Afghanistan.

I'm not taking political sides on this issue. When attacking Iraq and Afghanistan became a possibility I was concerned we would be there for ten years. Voila! I was concerned there wasn't a beginning to end strategy with an objective so defined we would have an exit strategy. Yes, wars change in midstream. But we didn't belong in either of those places. We shouldn't be nation building.
Whether people like the reasons or not, in the beginning Iraq and Afghanistan were more in the interest of American security than Libya. We have no business doing humanitarian missions. Even Iraq and Afghanistan became humanitarian missions after we scared off the enemy. There are too many potential humanitarian missions in the world. How about if we save a few people in our own country who need help?

No it doesn't. All words in a legal context have significance. You should know this if you want to go to law school. "Consult" doesn't mean "inform" it means "consult." e.g. to get advice. The congress has to provide input and advice BEFORE he commits military forces. He can ignore their advice but he has to at least seek it, which he did not do.

Whats happening in Libya is very very very different from what has happened in Iraq and Afghanistan. We are not launching some full scale invasion of a nation and we are not doing it without the approval of the international community. This is a joint effort of many nations including the United States and I don't see how this should be impeachable since we have as of yet to prosecute Bush of any crimes yet. Also, aside from the UN itself, the Arab League and even the AFRICAN UNION (The very organization that Gaddafi set up himself) asked the UN to create a resolution to help the people of Libya. If you believe this is a war for oil then you're very wrong on that point too! Gaddafi has been giving out favors to Europe and the United States by giving out contracts to various companies to drill for oil in Libya. Gaddafi has encouraged foreign companies to invest in oil infrastructure and guess what he did with all of that profit? He used it to grant favors to close allies and his own family and did little to develop the eastern portion of Libya in particular.

and says: " Not THAT kind of liar, a harp you dimwits ! " So the voters
wanted Obama & Biden, and got Anus & Andy instead. Both are the
prize in the cracker jacks box, aren't they ? - 1 year ago

Wasn't Joe Biden also a constitutional law professor? Two legal opinions on the same action.

I don't mean to cast aspersions on honest, ethical lawyers. But there's a
very good reason why the untalented ones amongst their ranks adopt
mendacity as a tactic. The German word " sheis " isn't flattering. Hence
the name sheister. Neither Nobama nor Biden could lie straight in bed. - 1 year ago

Biden practiced law for one year after nearly being thrown out of law school for plagurism. After one year of practicing law he became a professional politician.

When a student is called before a disciplinary committee he's in danger of being expelled. It's BS to think a student could get to grad school and not understand the requirement to footnote.

pathetic warren...do you have any idea how much supposed plagiarism actually goes on out there, most of it non-intentional? There are software programs designed specifically to address this issue and currently being employed by the scientific community, and the results have been astounding, but these charges against Biden were how long ago?
Pathetic attempt at actually contributing anything viable to the discussion.

So now plagurism is acceptible because others have done it? It's the typical liberal dumbing down of America. Most of the liberals on this site are incredible hypocrites. You're not about policy. You're about your side. If a Republican was found to have plagurized in college thirty years ago there would be an article with at least one hundred comments condemning him. At least I'll say Bush was wrong to go in to Iraq and Afghanistan. I said it was wrong when he chose to do so. You liberals are so political party oriented as opposed to conviction oriented you'll repeat any lie and sell your soul to defend your man. That's pathetic!
I can make it even simpler regarding Biden. He's on the same mantle as Quayle regarding brain power.

I gotta ask….How can grown men and women actually believe anything these Bozos say anymore. Lies, lies, lies and more lies! All these freeloading bums need to be voted out or thrown out of their so-called “public servant” positions…without any pension or compensation for all the “garbage” they’ve created. They also need to be to held to a higher standard and punished more severely than normal citizens for taking advantage of their positions of power.

And replace them with who, bigger liars and cheats? The people in this country have to wake up, come together and form a political party with leaders who want to work with the people, not for themselves! We need candidates with simple values, commonsense goals, and no ties to big business or gangster banksters! We will have to use our own funds, as little as there is, but it can be done. Look at the millions Obama received from small contributors. We have to fight back and back candidates with spine and honest hearts! Candidates who will stand with the people and their values, not with some Wall Street CEOs or a few Wealthy egotistical maniacs!
Right now we have one party who is working to destroy the middle class and the poor without having any shame and a second party doing the same thing while hiding behind the values the party once had but have lost! Both political parties are 90% corrupt and are in Washington for their own benefit, or for the benefit of their greedy masters!
There are a few good souls, (my reason for the 90% figure) and with some honest conversation, we could force the bad and dishonest assholes out of office. We still have the power of the vote and have to use it wisely! - 1 year ago
