The Great Rally Is Tomorrow-Our Time Has Come

It is time to come to our senses before the noose of corporate control gets any tighter. We have to begin our fight to retain the right to collectively bargain for a better life. We need more jobs now, many are going hungry and many are either already homeless or on their way. The working people have many serious issues that are not being addressed. We have to make the political/corporate alliance pay attention to our needs.

Dignity at work is as important as the job itself. To work under a corporate dictator is virtually the same thing as the political kind. Private employment without union representation is no different than being a good German under Hitler. Our political leaders are using this current depression as an excuse to strip away union bargaining and seniority rights. The last bastion of unionism left in the United States is the public sector. Private sector unionism has been permanently decimated by the shutting down of thousands of manufacturing plants from coast to coast. If the public unions lose out there will be nothing left for the working class. We will all exist in a state of virtual slavery.

400 individuals have as much wealth as 150 million of the rest of us. Something is out of whack and we all know what it is. The tax codes need to be revised and brought back into line with past tax rates that made the super-wealthy pay more of their share.

Tomorrow’s rally and many more that are slated to follow are landmark events. We need to seize the day and exercise the will of the people because the politicians are not going to get it done. The days of corporate cash being the controlling factor in our political life must cease. Wisconsin was our shining moment. Take their example, use it, and run with it.

If we sit on the sidelines at this point in history the last remnants of Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal will be erased from our history including Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Many gains that were fought for and paid for with blood by the union movement will be permanently wiped out. We can’t let this happen.

If we are going to be a true democracy then the will of the people must be expressed in economic matters. It is not enough to have a vote once a year when our economy is run by private interests. These private interests have made lackeys out of our political class who are beholden to the rich and the corporations for campaign financing and under-the-table cash. Things have to change. The pendulum needs to swing back in the other direction.

If it is at all possible get out tomorrow and show up at a rally near you. There are hundreds of events scheduled around the country. Be a part of something big, you will be proud of yourself and we will be proud of you.

WHAT POWERFUL NUMBERS! THAT 150 million of us with business cards that say "customer service rep" or "bullshit corporate salesperson" BOYCOTT these corps they work for...power in those numbers. THIS IS WHAT IT MUST COME TO PEOPLE. STOP GOING TO YOUR PLACE OF TYRANNY, erm "employment". i can't keep getting emails from monster.com that have titles like "how to shine over your co-workers" or "how to get picked from that pile of resumes". NO WAY FUCK THAT. companies should be begging us to work for them with generous packages, instead everyone's barely making it & they're trying to make you feel GRATEFUL you're at least making it. by the skin between your nails & finger nubs that is. monster.com should be emailing things like "400 stockholders recently created 150 million, fair-paying jobs in humane environments NOT involving reducing humans to rats in science lab cages." OR "150 million blue collars failed to show up to work this week, spinning a committee of 400 into a national crisis" yay, let's make that happen.

    • Excellent article. I bought the t-shirts, and have been reading the afl/cio blog and the emails they have sent -- do you realize there are even rallies in Europe? Amazing how much support we have. The French were our allies when we fought the revolutionary war, and when the revolted they used our fight and our Declaration of Independence as their model -- are we seeing important similarities 235 years later?

    • Let the damn fools who voted for these corporate-backed Republicans lose their precious Socialist Security, and suffer with the rest of us.
The only way for them to learn, is the hard way.

I call it Socialist Security, because it is socialist. ...and a damn great idea.
People need to get over the negative stigma Republicans have placed on this word.
When it really means, For the people.

    • I do believe that there is class warfare going on. I also think that the upper crust has way way way more of the pie than the rest of us.

However, can someone verify this quote, "400 individuals have as much wealth as 150 million of the rest of us."

    • ReMarker:

Thanks. You are bad ass. I wanted to repost that quote, but was unsure how accurate it was.

Now I will just post it to my little heart's content.

      Thanks ReMarker.

    • This is a great post, SIBob. This is the time that all working people who have been under the thumb of the corporations win back all of our hard gotten rights. I am with ya!
