George Rekers belongs at the top of this list. He's not the most recent, but dear Lord did he get caught the most red-handed. Not only this, but he had the absolute worst excuse.
Here's the story:
George Rekers, a man who helped start one of the most powerful anti-gay lobbying groups in the US during the 80s and has written published papers such as "Growing Up Straight: What Families Should Know About Homosexuality", had a recent surgery so during a lecture tour and was unable to lift his own luggage, so he hired some help -- which is perfectly reasonable.
Where did he go to get this help? Rentboy-com, baby.
He there found a young, ripped, hairless, vampire-from-a-young-adult-book-looking boy named Lucien (pictured to the left) who he brought on his trip to "lift his luggage"(which is now an awesome euphemism for hiring a male prostitute and/or having sex with a male).
Rekers denies having a sexual relationship with the boy or even knowing that he was a gay male or prostitute. There is no way to stumble upon a profile on rentboy-com, as they are all private. So obviously, Rekers had an account there. He found Lucien, whose profile bragged about his "smooth, sweet, tight ass" and "perfectly built 8 inch cock (uncut.)" His profile also said that he'd be "up for anything" as long as the person paid... which Rekers was MORE than happy to do.
UPDATE: a few months later, Lucien admitted to having sex with George Rekers, understandably, as it would take anyone quite a while to admit that; even to themselves.
2. Pastor Eddie Long
Georgia Pastor Eddie Long, a Baptist and famed televangelist in his area. In 2004, he led a march to Dr. Martin Luther King's grave in the name of defining marriage as between a man and a woman. He has also been quoted as saying that his church can "deliver" people from homosexuality.
He is currently being sued by four young men (ages 21, 20, 23 and 22) for using his fame and influence to coerce them into sexual relationships. The relationships lasted months and occurred during the boys' late teens. The age of consent in Georgia is 16, so it was legal, but it was still wrong of him to use his power to get the boys to do sexual favors for him. Here are some examples of what he did...
The pastor of New Birth Missionary (*snicker*) Baptist Church, Eddie Long used his influence to take the boys places such as Kenya, paid for their hotel rooms and gave them gifts such as cars, cash and jewelry in exchange for mutual masturbation, oral sex and sensual massaging.
Click on the image to the left to see a gallery of the kind of text messages the (admittedly in-shape) Pastor sent his accusors.
3. Troy King
This amazing entry, starring Alabama Attorney General Troy King, plays itself out in beautiful symmetry.
Known for his vocal opposition to gay rights and for his attempt to outlaw sex toys, King was caught by his wife while having sex with a local homecoming King (see what we did there?) from--wait for it--Troy University.
Someone get the mascot over here and have it do a little dance.
4. Richard Curtis
This Washington State Representative has an anti-gay rights voting record--he voted against domestic partnerships for gays and opposed a bill prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation.
Oh really now? Well, it wasn't before long that Mr. Mega-Compensation resigned from the House due to reports of his sexual encounter with a male escort being made, you know, "public" and all.
The reputed male prostitute, Cody Castagna, with whom he was cavorting, told police that Curtis offered him $1,000 to have sex with him and that Curtis purchased two gay pornographic films from the hotel for them to watch in his room.
Even more, this all went down with Curtis wearing a red negligee and Castagna has pictures to prove it. Pictures he only took as revenge when it was discovered that Curtis only had $200 in his wallet.
That's something to smile about. For us.
5. Ted Haggard
Known as Pastor Ted to his congregation at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ted Haggard was outed by prostitute, and professional masseur, Mike Jones in November 2006 for paying him to engage in sex with him for three years.
He was also purchasing, then using, crystal methamphetamine ("Crystal Meth", for all the kids out there) with his pay-for-play partner.
Haggard had supported Colorado Amendment 43, which bans same-sex marriage in the state.
In his own words, he's not a homosexual, he's just a "heterosexual with issues."
6. Glenn Murphy Jr.
Glenn Murphy Jr., former head of the Young Republicans and one of the (former) leading Republicans of Indiana, always advocated "straight" family values and straight forward sexual orientation views.
He was caught (finally, the second time he did it) performing fellatio on another Young Republican while that man slept, without that man's consent.
He was later jailed in 2008 and as of March of 2010, has been forced to register as a sex offender.
7. David Dreier
David Dreier is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives who has voted against gay marriage rights, gay legal rights and gay adoption rights and was part of an organization called "Californians for Bush" in 2004.
He's been accused of having sex with members of his staff and even paying his alleged boyfriend a high salary (like any politically-corrupt, good boyfriend should.)
Hypocritical as always, he has since denied any mentions of his homosexuality altogether.
When he almost became the majority leader of the House in 2005, he was denied the position by the most right-wing republicans because they said his views were "too moderate."
When asked if David Dreier was passed over for the job due to his "moderate" views, openly-gay Democratic Congressman Barney Frank told the press "Yes, in the sense that I marched in the moderate pride parade last summer and went to a moderate bar.”
8. Bruce Barclay
Bruce Barclay, the Republican commissioner of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, is practically the gay porn star of politics. Due to an allegation of rape by 20-year-old male Marshall McCurdy, police obtained a warrant to search Barclay's home on March 31st.
They didn't find evidence of rape.
Instead, they found videotapes of hundreds of sexual encounters with men that Barclay filmed on high-tech surveillance cameras. It was apparent that Barclay and McCurdy had consensual sex.
It was also apparent that his personal Republican stance was not as right-wing as he'd led people to believe.

It seems these people normally grow up in extremely religious homes which bring them to the point where they feel they can't come out or even admit they're bisexual, if the latter is indeed the case for any of them. I'm sure none of what I'm saying hasn't already been concluded, but it's unfortunate that any politicians could make such outrageously ignorant claims regardless of party affiliations. Stating, for example, that homosexuality or anything but heterosexuality is "wrong" is implying that certain genetic makeups are somehow wrong. It is backwards given that, as we all know, it was once common in this part of the world to believe that being part of any minority race was wrong, that being a woman was wrong, and that being anything but a Protestant was wrong. All in all, this just further proves how crusading particularly against characteristics that no one can control—fearing what one doesn't understand, that is—has been taken further and will likely be around in some form forever. It's a real shame.

Yes but there are many kinds of people. Black, white, short, fat, smart, dumb, bigoted, spiritual, happy, murderous, straight, bi, gay, etc. Sure you could lump them all under one noun (people) but that wouldn't specify a particular characteristic.
People who have gay sex are usually qualified as gay. That shouldn't be problematic for us to assign an adjective to describe someone, any more than "Mr." assumes the masculine form of a particular person.

Stop writing like a douche bag. Gays call heteros "straight" or "breeeders"! Some people refer to themselves as white while others refer to themselves as black. People who instruct and educate others refer to themselves as teachers and people who write music call themselves composers. Get a grip Mr. Wizard,,,cuz your writing a bit like the turtle. GAYS refer to themselves as GAY! Your over sensitivity is misdirected, indulge in it if you like, but point it elsewhere. Just saying!

Want to know why?
The entire "argument" regarding homosexuality boils down to one fundamental precept: BEING GAY IS A CHOICE. If it was not, that would mean homosexuality was legitimate in the eyes of God. What this means is that EVEN if you have gay FEELINGS/INTENTIONS, that alone does not make you gay. You have to act on them.
Thus all of the people on this list no doubt exhibit the FEELINGS of homosexuality, but these intentions remain repressed since they are not allowed to indulge in such indiscretions by their own logic.
Those who think homosexuality is a CHOICE are then projecting their own beliefs so as to justify their own identity--they are most likely gay themselves (though this will be fervently denied), but as long as they don't CHOOSE to act on it, they're fine in the eyes of the lord (and of course their congregation). Unfortunately, you can't fight what you are, and "succumbing" to one's true nature is essentially the most liberating experience one can have. Dealing with the backlash (i.e., this article) is the only negative aspect of that rebirth. SO LETS CUT PEOPLE SOME SLACK.
Labels are for the confused.

sffsmessiah:
Actually, science has demonstrated that sexual orientation and gender appearance exists on sliding scales, with exclusive attraction to one sex or the other, and the "super" appearing male or female, as black and white, with unlimited shades of grey in between black and white. There is one sliding scale for the psychological sexual orientation and a separate one for gender physical appearance, and they do not necessarily mirror one another. Each one is uniquely created by the interplay of numerous hormones and chemicals during the development of the fetus, with numerous factors, hormones and various chemicals, affecting the ultimately independent sliding scales of gender distinction. Thus, a not particularly masculine appearing man may have an extremely male to female sexual drive. Conversely, as we have seen in society, a super masculine appearing male may have no physical attraction to women at all. Every person is actually one of an endless combinations of the two sliding scales coordinating gender characteristics, all determined during their gestation.
The conundrum of your suggestion about sexual preference being strictly a choice, always boils down to the implicit denial that God does not have the ability to work his will through processes which we call science. This religious precept that places restrictions on Gods abilities mirrors the issue of creationism and evolution. If one accepts that God is omnipotent, all powerful, then one must accept that God could create all life by his own process which we call evolution. To deny that God can do that, is to say the God is not all powerful.
The extension of this parallel permits one to argue that God created man with many different shades of gender appearance and sexual attractions, to test all men's tolerance and acceptance of God's diverse creation. If one accepts that nothing can be created but by God, then one should recognize even the most gender neutral appearing person, or the person who appears opposite to the gender of their sexual organs, and their innate sexual urges as God's creation, and they should be tolerated and embraced as a part of God'd infinite diversity. Christ's teachings of "judge not that ye be not judged", "let he who is without (fault) / sin", cast the first stone" and related instructions to accept all of God's creations; ( even the fall of a sparrow ), clearly instruct all to accept and not harm that which they do not necessarily understand or identify with.

right, so I wasn't suggesting being gay WAS really a choice, but that those who believe it is may think that way due to the fact that THEY are in fact having homosexual feelings, though their rationale states that as long as they CHOOSE to not act on it, they are not gay.
this allows them to defend the proposition that homosexuality is a perversion not in accordance with god's plan, since even though they feel the same way, the fact that they are not ENGAGING in the act means they are not gay (in their minds, according to their logic).

When someone has maladaptive or inappropriately excessive religiosity (new term I coined this afternoon:) and then gets caught with their pants down.........why, that's just plain funny. Those headlines just make me smile every time.
Seriously though, it's probably an echo manifestation of their own history of suppression by others and repression of feelings as children.....which is sad.

You will notice none of them had committed long-term relationships with members of the same sex. It's all prostitutes, molestation or rape.
They were not only self-loathing gays, but they hated gays who were out and able to have happy fulfilled lives that they could not.
What? You are a gay couple who want to get married and have kids and a white picket fence? No way, not when I give blow jobs to heroin addicts in public restrooms! All gay people should be as miserable as I am!

I think some of the gay-anti-gay hypocrisy stems from bisexuality. And the ones for which this is not true are truly sad.
There are people who are acutely aware of their homosexuality from a very early age and are not capable of suppressing that without suppressing essential parts of their selves. Then there are people who have all sorts of random urges and essentially engage in hedonistic behavior. In a free world both of these should be ok, but they are very different things. Outlawing the latter is essentially a liberty issue. Outlawing the former is a human rights abuse.
I think a lot of the people who turn activist are in the bisexual camp mixed with some twisted religion. For them, the urges may be difficult to suppress but would not be impossible. Their certainty on the issue may derive from personal experience and a profound ignorance of the multitude of flavors in the human rainbow.

Just a little note:
There is a diference between sexual orientation (homosexual, bisexual, and heterosexual) and strength of the sex drive. People of any sexual orientation can be uncontrollably hedonistic, or sexually disinterested, or anything inbetween.
There is a false myth that bisexuals are unusually horny- they are not. They just have the capacity to be sexually attracted to either men or women. Just like, I assume, you could be attracted to a blond, brunette or a redhead, but you don't need them all laid out like a buffet.
Bisexuals can be completely monogamous with one individual just like gays and straights.

Yes I agree with you. I think we have different definitions of hedonistic, but yours is probably more correct. Mine was more along the lines of "whatever feels right is right" rather than "anything anytime". I did not intend to imply any form of nymphomania but rather highlight the flexibility of it. And my intended ultimate point was that there are all kinds.

Why couldn't I ever get lucky and have some rich closet-case make the moves on me? I would have made a fortune in blackmail... maybe I just gotta make the first move... here I'll practice *press's nipple* "Ding Dong it's for you Rick Scott, ya might wanna open it...there could be a package", how was that? I should probably shave first...

What an all-star line-up here, bundle! Such upstanding family values proponents. These are some real "campaigners" digging deep for the male vote. I can still remember the classic interview of Larry Craig my Chris Matthews during the Clinton impeachment trial and the look on Chris' face when Craig spoke the infamous lines, "Bill Clinton is a nasty, naughty boy." And Troy King doing the Troy King, wow, it just doesn't get any better than that. Too bad Vitter never did any male prostitutes whille wearing his diaper. Now that would've been precious!

I'm sure their outlook on life, and themselves, is quite contorted.
I don't know if they even hate themselves for being gay--most politicians are quite narcissistic.
They are hypocrites, however.

making anything "forbidden fruit" immediately carves a hole in one's head for obsession to take over. more proof actions speak louder than words because the louder their words the farther their actions.

Not sure? But in such cases, I never recommend holding back, and heartily recommend both. One does have to hand it to Rekers that he has decent taste in call boys, if one likes chicken.
