A human skull dated to about 2,684 years ago with an "exceptionally preserved" human brain still inside of it was recently discovered in a waterlogged U.K. pit, according to a new Journal of Archaeological Science study.
The brain is the oldest known intact human brain from Europe and Asia, according to the authors, who also believe it's one of the best-preserved ancient brains in the world.
"The early Iron Age skull belonged to a man, probably in his thirties," lead author Sonia O'Connor told Discovery News. "Cause of death is rarely possible to determine in archaeological remains, but in this case, damage to the neck vertebrae is consistent with a hanging."

Whoa, I can't believe no one is catching on to the REAL story here:
"the scientists also found the headless body of a red deer that had been deposited into a channel"
Clearly there was once a creature that roamed the UK with a deer's body and a human head. One headless body and one body-less head clearly equal one whole animal (this is just basic math people). The native people, who were without a doubt frightened of this half-deer/ half-human, snared it, then decapitated it and threw the evidence into this bog where 2600+ years later we found it.
What a scientific break-through.

I have always been fascinated with the bodies uncovered in the bogs and moors of the British Isles. The cause of death for this poor man seems to be ritualized strangling, also known as hanging but not as we think of it, as a form of sacrifice due to bad signs, harvests, weather, etc. Most of the time these men tended to be nobles, not slaves or peasants, or those of high standing in their respected communities. It is something which leaves me a tad envious in our modern world.

I agree that humans would have gone extinct (or at least the ones who decided to become vegan). The main reason is that veganism is not a 'natural' state for a human.

The brain at over 2600 years is more effective than the combined republican party. But, probably not as pickled.

The term pickled is very accurate here...Now the question is will we ever be able to pull viable genetics from it?

Yeah, I am more of an anthropology buff then an archeo Jones type, but yes, the genetic make up of this individual and solid dating could fill in some gaps or misconceptions about history in that area.
