Ohio Lawmakers To Introduce Bill To Recall GOP Gov. John Kasich

In response to Kasich’s disastrous reign, Democratic state Reps. Mike Foley and Bob Hagan will introduce legislation this week to make Ohio the 20th state to allow voters to remove and replace state officials, including the governor and legislators. The legislation requires a petition signed by 15 percent of the votes cast for that office in the last election. In Kasich’s case, they would need more than 577,870 signatures. While acknowledging that the bill is unlikely to pass in a GOP-led legislature, Hagan said Ohioans deserved a chance to recall a governor who is “hurting the people in this state”:
State Rep. Robert Hagan, a Youngstown Democrat, cited what he called “an attack on working people, an attack on organized labor, an attack on the ability to collectively bargain” as reasons he’s co-sponsoring the measure. He said it also had to a lot to do with Gov. John Kasich.
“He’s dividing the state,” Hagan said. “He’s hurting the people in this state and we think that this legislation that will be offered will go to the heart of those constituents and voters who have grown disenchanted with this governor.[...]
Hagan said he did not expect the legislation to pass. But, he added, “I think that they would be foolish not to have some hearings and have this discussion. I think it would be even more foolish for them to stand in the way.” [...]
“People wanted to know why if they can do it in Wisconsin, why can’t they do it in Ohio — why can’t we do it in Ohio,” Foley said. “They wanted that same right here in Ohio.”
In Wisconsin, 16 senators “face possible recalls for their actions on the bill which limits collective bargaining by public employee unions.” Four, so far, have enough signatures to face recall elections. Wisconsin’s Gov. Scott Walker (R) can face recall in January of 2012. In Arizona, Gov. Jan Brewer’s (R) outlandishly radical moves have spurred Arizonans to start a recall effort against her. And as ThinkProgress’s Ian Millhiser points out, Michiganders can recall Gov. Rick Snyder (R) this July for an attack on workers’ rights similar to Kasich’s.
Should Ohio’s recall bill fail, the state’s citizenry does have a “fall back option” to write the power of recall into the Ohio Constitution by collecting almost 400,000 signatures of registered voters. Kasich, however, rebuffed any recall effort as sheer politics. Viewing his record as “pretty remarkable,” Kasich said, “I don’t care about a lot of the other political things that go on.” His spokesman Rob Nichols called the proposal “gutter politics” and “borderline absurd.”

curbing out of control spending is easy... cease the republican wars, tax the republican super corporations, and let the freemarket really be free.... let the banks that profit from ripping us off fail. that would save us a couple trillion and earn us a couple trillion as well. when you talk about liberal spending, you're talking about social programs that help the poor, healthcare, foodstamps, and money for the very low income. you support attacking poor people and supporting huge corporations who give multi million dollar bonuses to the very people who caused an economic melt down in the first place. i wonder, what exactly did the conservatives say to you to make you believe that the poor people are the enemy and the rich people are your friends?
i'm a liberal... and i'm your friend... i want the best for you, and your family... and i dont give a damn about those politicans making millions from tax payer subsidies... or stripping womens care so that women are forced to go to their privately owned clinics... and i dont care about those people who make you scared of poor people, even though there are not enough jobs to go around, because the people that you support get huge tax breaks for creating jobs overseas, those people who hurt people by the millions will get whats coming to them, if not in this life, then the next ...
i am still your friend... we liberals, are still your friend, even though, as a conservative, your brain is less able to interpret complex situations and you have a tendency to be more fearful... dont be fearful... we will survive... if we help the poor, the poor will build a strong country and we will thrive... we could use your support on the common sense side. - 1 year ago

Seeing as I'm from WI, I'm wishing Ohio the best of luck. I see on some of the posts here alot of the same things that were said about WI. For the most part, WI received support for our efforts to recall Walker. Not everyone in Ohio voted for Ka-sick just like not everyone voted for Walker in WI. If you'll go back and watch video of Kompanieführer Kasich, you'll see that he's never given a particular Rat's fanny about anybody but himself.
Also found this, for those who love the Kochs:
"The legislation was prefabricated by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) which has a long affiliation with John Kasich. More than three decades ago, this corporate front masquerading as advocates of “limited government” and “free markets” began plotting to destroy the programs common in all modern industrial democracies.
ALEC’s own history points to a meeting in September 1973 that included then-Illinois state Representative Henry Hyde, conservative activist Paul Weyrich, and Lou Barnett, an operative for then-Governor Ronald Reagan’s presidential ambitions; these three created the council. Reactionary and racist Senator Jesse Helms is also listed as one of the key founders of ALEC. ALEC’s website states that “Among those who were involved with ALEC in the formative years were . . . John Kasich of Ohio.”

They're dismissive of the opinion people have of them publicly, but don't fool yourselves, the national rethuglican leadership is definitely paying attention. There are three much ballyhooed governors that were elected on the strength of the dissatisfaction with the direction the country is going, but now that angered is being turned against them. If this anger pours over into next years elections, many of the "Big Ten" states they thought they had a shot at, will end up back in the Obama camp. For his part, he needs to come out squarely on the side of working people. If he does that, he can take the enthusiasm to a whole new level. The first step would be to present a budget that reflects the progressive agenda:
Close those tax loopholes
Stop subsidies to large corporations
Cut defense spending
Make Medicare more efficient and let people keep their benefits
Start rebuilding this country's infrastructure using American workers and American raw materials-> Keep the jobs here.Note: I didn't say raise taxes. We don't have to do that; just make them actually PAY taxes.

Of course the criminally insane; which all of these corrupted corporate right zombie puppets are, will call all common sense actions absurd and gutter politics, even after God reminds them of each and every perverse betrayal of the United States Constitution and the American People which they have committed! I'm thinking there was something effective about the days of tar, feathers and being strapped to a galloping horse out of town to nowhere. But in Kasich's case, I still recommend that they strap him in a canoe and take him across the street from the Capitol to float him down the Olentangy river.

Is this a "real effort," or a "pretend effort"?
I'm so jaded by the "pretend efforts" of Obama, when he takes stands on an issue and says he will make it right, when all along, he knew it would never pass (because he didn't put the effort to drive it through Congress).
Example:
Our tax dollars are STILL going to pay incentives to American corporations to send our jobs abroad. On 9/9/2010 (before the 2010 midterm elections), Obama "VOWED" he would stop tax incentives for outsourcing, but "the GOP blocked it." (note in the quote, below, that at that time he also VOWED to let the Bush tax cuts expire for people making greater than $250,000--it's a two-fer Obama fake promise!).
--------------------------------------------------------
http://ibnlive.in.com/news/obama-vows-to-end-tax-cuts-create-more-jobs/130599-2....[BEGIN QUOTE]Washington: Accusing opposition Republicans of pushing bankrupt economic policies and putting politics ahead of national welfare, US President Barack Obama has vowed to end Bush era tax cuts encouraging companies to "create jobs and profits in other countries".
I think if we're going to give tax breaks to companies, they should go to companies that create jobs in America - not that create jobs overseas," he said on a mid-term campaign in the perennial swing state of Ohio on Wednesday.
"That's one difference between the Republican vision and the Democratic vision. That's what this election is all about," he said vowing to stand by his plan to allow the Bush tax cuts to expire for people making over $ 250,000, while extending the cuts for those making less. [END QUOTE]---------------------------------------------------------------
However, on 9/28/2010--even CLOSER to the 2010 midterm elections--the true Obama/Democrat agenda was revealed in a follow-up CNN article:it was all just a campaign gimmick for the 2010 midterm elections. Democrats knew all along the corporatists in Congress (GOP AND Democrat, because at that time there was still a Democratic majority in both the House and Senate) wouldn't let the bill pass. That's why Obama and the Democrats raised the issue--they knew it wouldn't pass.
------------------------------------------------------------------
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/09/28/gop-blocks-democrats-jobs-outsou...
[BEGIN QUOTE] .Democratic sources tell CNN they knew all along this measure would not make it very far. That was beside the point. The point, Democratic strategists candidly admit, was to use the last few days of the congressional session before the election to try to highlight one of the few jobs-related issues Democrats feel they may be able to use against Republicans: outsourcing....[END QUOTE]
-------------------------
So, for those of you more familiar with this situation--do you think the Ohio politicians are serious about this recall? Or are they just pandering to the voters, never intending to actually accomplish anything?
Sorry to be so cynical, but I don't trust but a handful of politicians anymore, especially when they herd up.

It will remain a pretend effort until people like you stop fighting people like Obama and start fighting the people who block him. There's nothing dishonest about supporting a position that they believe in even though they don't think it can actually pass with the current Congress. Call it a campaign gimmick if you like but it does represent what they'd like to do if we elect a Congress that would also support it.
Obama shares your goal on these issues but you hate him because the Republicans didn't allow his proposals to pass. That is insanity.

What he needs is a majority in the Senate and Congress.... a serious majority without the Blue Balls folks who will work with him. Obama is the king of "watering down everything". Wake up Demtothecore. I wouldn't let Obama do a deal for me buying a used car! If Obama is elected again, after four more years the republicans will have the country THEY want!

A progressive base WAS tricked into voting for a "deceitful conservative". Where have you been in the last two years? Puplic option, support for labor, off shore oil, gitmo, bank regulation, torture, patriot act, ending the wars, Bush tax cuts.......need I go on?

I understand her fully. At best she is friendly fire, at worst, true traitor. She is absolutely not on my side.
And if you are working against Obama to get the Republicans back in power along with everything that comes with including securing a conservative Supreme Court for another entire generation, than you are not either.
The fact that you do it as a liberal ideologue out of ignorance of the balance of power in government, the US history of compromise, the center-right ideology of the electorate, and other practical realities, rather than as a conservative out of moral depravity doesn't make you any better than them.

I think they'd actually prefer it. It's easier and more satisfying to criticize the direction of the country when you are fully opposed to every part of the government.
That's why they prefer to think Obama is a complete lying fraud who was a secret conservative all along but tricked a liberal country into electing him. That's an easy problem to deal with. We just need to find the right liberal President and he'll sail into office.
It's much harder to deal with a President doing the best he can with a major opposition party acting completely in bad faith, dedicated to bad ideas, with its own massive media outlets, in addition to entrenched bureaucracies, a conservative Supreme court, pervasive corporate propaganda, and a profoundly misinformed and short-term thinking electorate.

You are indeed the A+ student on the board. So we should look at pink and call it green because we do not have the ability to look, listen, read and comprehend what has been going on. Tell you what, keep your beliefs of lack there of and I will keep mine. No wonder the Kochroach bro's think they can keep you folks distracted with their brand of nonsense.
