Climate activists storm the Department of the Interior

On April 18, climate activists under the name of Reclaim Power stormed the DC headquarters of the Department of the Interior, protesting leases of pubic land to corporations for oil, gas, and coal mining.

Well over 100 activists rushed the front doors and stormed into the lobbby, which filled with protesters until no more would fit inside! The usual three warnings from police included a chilling More..threat of FELONY CHARGES for "trespassing" and "Unlawful Entry" to be Federaly prosecuted.

Twenty people stayed anyway and were arrested, unknown if the felony charges were actually filed. Of course, the Department of the Interior has a prior record of charging activsts with felonies, most notoriously in the case of a man who bid on oil and gas leases to keep them off the market.

    • Rebels with green helmets invading spaces, chanting, wooing, and getting arrested is all well and good, but you need to have a clear statement for why you are performing such actions. Don't be afraid to go into the details as long as you are CLEAR and HONEST.

      Ralph Nader may be able to hook you up.

    • Protests are good to show that we don't support our government, but if we can just get thrown out and arrested, it has no lasting impact or benefit...how can we get real change? Our current rulers no longer listen to the people, a simple protest is not enough.

      We basically need to create one giant union or group of unions that all put aside our differences to focus on what matters: protecting life and the planet. Our survival, including the survival of billions of animals and many ecosystems across the planet depend on our ability to halt the ecocide / genocide being perpetrated by world governments. Unity is the key.

      They want to divide us on simple, stupid issues (like abortion)... but if we don't realize that humanity's survival is at stake, we're all toast. Our government glorifies the destruction of the planet. Should any of us allow our home to be burned while we watch?
