You mean all those videos of an obviously fake Osama bin Laden? Only idiots were fooled by them.

I left Huffpost because of that nonsense and I hope Current does not take up the mantle of doing the same rubbish. It would be a damn shame!

The difference between Huffpo and Current is that here most stories are posted by the users rather than the staff. Current doesn't really have much control over what gets posted, other than deleting things they find inappropriate.

If Current is going to publish this stuff under the heading "NEWS" isn't it incumbent on them to verify what they're putting out here? I find myself coming here less and less because some of the stuff I'm wasting my time reading is even junkier than what HuffPo started pushing. Put the user-written stuff in another section instead of insulting our intelligence by calling it "news".

Not user generated, user posted. Big difference, though some current posters have been known to produce original articles. The staff does their best to sort articles and will move them to different sections if such action is deemed appropriate. The thing with current is that the freedom encourages discussion and allows flexibility without heavy moderator censorship. This brings thoughtful and smart people to the comment sections. Compare current comments to huffpo or NYT comments to see the difference. Pretty stark. With that you also find that the crazies and bigots may post whatever they feel like as well. Despite the occasional silliness, it results generally in a higher quality website. Have the patience to look through the stories and ignore what you think is stupid. If you really have a problem, try joining groups for a more focused feel. And there really isn't any requirement to verify something before calling it news. Look at fox. ^_^

While the Bin Laden family has extensive financial ties, friendships, and holdings in the USA, as a very devote Muslim, Osama Bin Laden doesn't drink alcohol.
His older brother Salem, who was in charge of the Bin Laden Group worldwide, was a much more worldly chap. Salem was fond of doing business in Texas and Florida, scotch, American women, and rock and roll.

And pork BBQ in Florida too!

The funny thing about Osama Bin Laden is how incorruptible, in the very classic sense, he was.
Within his huge extended family he was always admired as being the most self-effacing, serious and generous of the clan.
The family strongly supported his efforts in helping the Afghans get medical treatment, education and food, and in his later efforts (as did the US) in helping the Afghans fight the Soviet invaders.
He learned to drive heavy machinery to do construction as an adolescent working within the Bin Laden family projects in Saudi Arabia, and later learned the arts of war as necessary in Afghanistan. He was still working with Afghan children and adults hurt by the war long after the US pulled out.
The folks on both sides of the border Afghan and Pakistani have a long memory of his dedication and good works there. The idea of a whole region of a country (especially one of the poorest nations in the world) ignoring a five million dollar "dead or alive" reward was incomprehensible to the US culture, yet that's what happened.
I wonder what kind of response one could get in the US for offering 1/10 of that amount for a former US warlord.

The Osama is dead story is a hoax, but that means nothing- the "war"s have always been continued under false pretences, I thought that was obvious to everyone.

Well I have nothing to say to that lock tight rebuttal.

With regard to intelligence, clarity, perfection, intellect, culture, knowledge, precision of speech and writing, lucidity and accuracy, you don't even reach as high as six feet below her. We have noticed how threatened you feel by women who are way smarter than you, though.

That's a personal attack without an actual rebuttal. I could be the Devil himself, draped in a suit of flattened kittens and sitting on a throne made from the bones of a thousand murdered pacifists and that would still mean jack squat in regards to validity of your argument.

Simply put the idea that Benazir Bhutto was incapable of of a flub or a miscommunication because she was so well spoken and smart is insane.
