McDonalds Employees Encourage and Videotape the Beating of a Trans Woman in Their Franchise

You’re working the night shift at McDonald's handing out hamburgers.

A trans woman tries to use the bathroom, and two other McDonalds customers start to beat her up.

What do you do?

If you’re a McDonald’s employee in Baltimore, apparently you cheer the attackers on.

On Monday, April 18, two young women were caught on camera brutally attacking a defenseless trans woman who was simply trying to use the bathroom in a McDonald's outside Baltimore. Hat tip to Bil Browning, who seems to be the first blogger to cover the incident and to buckangel for the tipoff.

The video footage is horrific, but what’s more is that the attack took place in full view of McDonald's employees, indeed it seems the person who filmed the video may have been an employee of the fast food chain. Not only did most of the McDonald’s staff neglect to try and stop the attack, they can be heard on the video cheering on the attackers!

McDonald’s employees encouraging patrons to beat up a trans woman? Call on the company to immediately fire them.

A 14-year-old girl has been charged over her role in the assault, and charges are pending against an 18-year-old accused of beating up the trans woman.

But absolutely nothing has been done about the employees who just stood by while a hate crime was taking place right in front of them!

McDonalds is one of the largest, most powerful corporations on earth. It touts itself as a customer-driven company, whose workers are socially aware, sensitive to diversity and professional in conduct. One would think that such a company would be quick to fire those employees that encouraged the attackers. Yet we are five days after this disgusting assault and McDonald’s has yet to do so.

    • It's odd, I've never seen a transgender male use the men's room. The whole Transgender issue is confusing because of the way people explain it. It's like if I said, you know what..."I was supposed to be born a woman", then I start dressing like a woman, and am still attracted to women. That wouldn't give me the right to go into a woman's bathroom with a 5-o'clock shadow hanging on my face.

It's pretty simple. If you have a penis. Use the mens room. No penis, use the womens room. Pretty simple, and logical.

Also, McDonald's is not known for hiring the best and the brightest. They're known for cheap, fattening food, and jobs for people with little education.
You get what you pay for.

The fucked up thing about this situation, is had the transgendered girl gone into the men's room....there he/she also risked an ass-kicking.

Ignorant people react to the things they don't understand with either fear, or violence.

    • Separate and aside from the fight itself , society will not endorse a policy that allows any grown man with a dick who dresses like a woman into the womans bathroom. The reality is one of the basic precautionary measures we take for the sake of women and any children they may bring with them for there safety would be comprimised , that men and women separate there washrooms , sorry but the risks that open such a loophole will far outweigh the benefits to accommodate the less than .5 percent of the population who is actually transgender.

Transgender is not a visible minority , you cannot confirm a persons transgender status from looks alone , and with so many predators and deviants out there the risk is to too great to change the rules now. If its older than 8 and has a penis it should not be in the womans bathroom point blank period , if you want to campaign for a third bathroom than fine , but when im at chuck e cheese and a 300 pound man enters the bathroom in yoga pants , i will never feel comfortable letting my daughter go in there by herself , never! and i will not accept the notion that a person can simply identify themselves as a woman and gain access , especially with these predators going through the gammit to get certifications or diplomas to get access to work with young children , no one is going to accept comprimising the safety of all women for minoot amount of transgender people , there are so little transgender people that mathematically you can literally go decades or a entire lifetime without encountering a person of that particular sexual description.

If there are concessions for transgenders in society thats not one of em.

    • This is horrible! Nobody should be beaten up like this, especially if they're transgender. But it's even more disgusting that those people just watched and cheered on the attackers instead of trying to stop them. Those people who didn't do anything should get fired.

    • that poor kid, no one deserves to be attacked by fucking ghetto trash like this and it happens way to often, they need to get fuckin medevil on these lil shit heads and stop letting them off with slaps on the wrist, and yeah the employees are not "obligated " to get involved but it really takes a pile of shit to cheer this on and not help

    • Doing nothing is not the same as encouraging an unlawful act. Many people choose to not get involved and that is a separate social issue. But actively encouraging a felony act should be, if it is not already, a criminal act in and of itself. Minimum action on McDs part would be to terminate all those involved, active in the assault, actively cheering, or passively watching and doing nothing. This would send the social responsibility message to everyone involved and all who have seen the video.

I see below there are still Neanderthals in our midst that think that such violence is an appropriate response. I hope it is nothing more than youthful ignorance and an inability to think on a higher level beyond brute force.

One other point here. There is a long established correlation between violence perpetrated by government and social violence. As one rises, so does the other. Out nation is currently involved in four wars - Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan an Libya, continuing to practice extraordinary rendition to torture and punish people without legal sanction, we maintain GITMO so that civil liberties can be denied, we are involved in teaching Latin American military officers how to terrorize their own populations [Fort Benning Ga], and of course we are involved in mistreatment of uncharged, not convicted people who 'may' have violated national security law [Bradley Manning], while not punishing others who have been convicted of serious national security crimes that have actually killed people [12+ Iraqi nuclear scientists and their families have 'disappeared] like Scooter Libby. Some in our society will see that if the government can act in such an arbitrary and violent manner, why can't they. The issue of sanctioned violence will continue to generate social violence as long as we allow the government to justify their actions with such broad excuses as 'national security.'

    • the employees or anyone was cheering these women onward should be ashamed of themselves,, maybe they were children and ignorant of what they were doing, how about McDonalds creating more than the 50k part time minimum wage jobs they are bragging about,,, hire 24hr security at all the stores,,, oh and pay them a living wage with good benefits and make it full time jobs...... not just jobs,,,, great jobs

Then they should be made to do acts of kindness for this person for 5 years...

Well either way, transient or transgender/transexual, violence do to hatred makes my blood boil. I get many recruiters still trying to get me to sign up for the military, (young girl recruiters) I tell them the first time the drill Sargent gets in my face I will be shot for killing the s.o.b.. The recruiters just say, "that's the type of soldier we want". They find out I am around a 1/2 a century old and crippled, (4F) they drop the recruiting of me like a hot potato. THIS is the mind set of most of America I talk to, I stay state side to protect those that our Militaristic Governmental mindset have failed to help. (sorry didn't mean to vent)

    • I can't say that I'm ok with letting the real criminals off the hook and drawing all the attention to the employees. Yeah everyone that participated should just be put in a tiny box and treated like the baser animals they are, but if mcD's doesn't hire them. Then the company is being accused of discriminating applicants, or not hiring enough people or some other crap. I'm not normally on the side of any corporation but I think we should be more consistent as a society. Those employees could've been working for any remedial placement company period.

    • Horrifying that these young women have lost their humanity. It wasn't so long ago that being beaten and raped within marriage, for a woman, was just considered--marriage. Look how far we have come young women, now you, and your camera person, have empowered yourselves to torture another human. Great strides, so glad you are doing something with your new found freedoms.

On another note, living a life where the slave wages of McDonalds are the only access you have to the working world will continue to make a life of crime seem like a career choice. Every working person deserves a living wage and a fair chance and no segment of society, whether people of color or people who do not conform to old ideas about gender. Who is anyone to say how another person should understand themselves or their gender?

Our belief that some people should spend a lifetime working for slave wages and somehow remain a decent and responsible human being is unrealistic.

Uppity, nice write up. Yes women have fought hard for Equal rights. you're right that those little girls (if I can use that) have abused that standing. I do believe the only reason for our separation in gender is for pro creation only. I find what these children did sets back the civil rights movement 200 years.

Wether someone is rich or poor they have the possibility of acting this way. Yes growing up in an environment where theres everday fighting does shape you but in thsi situation we are talking about a hate crime. there is a very very big difference between a hate crime and beating someone up cuz they got in your face.

    • Boycott McDonald's if you are one of those people who still eats there. Seriously, this sort of thing couldn't happen if they paid for real managers and didn't leave these restaurants staffed by teenagers and under-supervised barely educated people, just to increase their ridiculous profit margin. McDonalds needs to go, and take their crappy food and shitty employees with them.

Even if what you say is true, an appropriate action on the part of the women involved would have been to notify the management that a man was in the ladies' room, not assault and battery.

All I'm saying is we don't really know what set this thing off, perhaps the tranny man said something he shouldn't have. Would you all be reacting this way if that was just some chick getting a smack down for running her mouth? Or is this cause it's a tranny and therefore it's automatically a hate crime regardless of the circumstances??

Really?? Someone going into the woman's restroom, identifying as a female, although possibly equipped with a penis, deserves to be assaulted? And what if penis had been removed? Is the assault & battery still deserved?

What if I go into the woman's restroom, and you know I'm gay? Do I deserve a bruising?

People tend not to intervene when a man is being beaten up by women in general especially if a 14 year old girl is the assailant and the fact is it is customary for women to get upset with men in the womans bathroom i've seen men get there jaw broken for attempting such a thing , there is no custom as to how to properly address a situation with a possible transgender or drag queen or otherwise goes into the bathroom , it is an issue that has never been addressed in the media or by law.

As for the employees , i didn't really see any action being taken by them , unless you are speaking too the hooting and hollering and egging on of the fight if so than ya its wrong to egg on a fight , but as for not making greater effort to intervene that is quickly becoming american custom as the link below will show.

People always seems to lash out the hardest at the things they least understand. Gays and Lesbians are enjoying a steady increase in acceptance, but Transgender people are still openly made fun of, ridiculed, and abused......and society seems to accept it.
