Just curious, which political party is almost always in control of these major cities that are going to hell?

So NOW we're heading for a depression, what happened to the Great Recovery from the Great Recession??? Could it be all you "expert economists" are either a lying bunch of bastards or a bunch of mentally deficient brain dead potatoes, or should I say potatoes, like Dan Quayle.
Gosh you "experts" really had me fooled, I thought the Banksters had fixed everything and made it all better, like butterfly kisses from Mommy.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME??? You assholes actually thought we feel for that bullshit?
Of course America is being transformed in front of our eyes, it's being transformed into a 3rd world country. So my fellow Americans - Stake your rightful claim NOW. The Banksters and Wall St. have turned America over to China lock stock and barrel. Our actual unemployment is closer to 25% and soon we will be paying taxes to a foreign nation.Wait, didn't we go through that once already? Ready to do that taxation without representation thin again? Neither am I.

Would Philadelphia count? Also it is proven fact that the the elected officials and the business elects care no more about the public bout time the public take it into its own hands and morph the ugly into beauty.

The GOP keep voting to take away infrastructure funding that would not only create jobs but improve the crumbling roads, bridges and water/sewer systems, build highspeed rail that would cut energy cost, etc. I cannot understand why they think things like improving infrastructure is bad. Do we have to wait for another bridget to collapse before they wake up or are they so far up the asses of the big Corporations and the Oligarch that they just don't care?

And who caused this to happen?
The Republic Syndicate and their masters who made sure the Oligarchs were able to steal money from the Government to help the Oligarchs take their businesses out of the U.S.

This was a great article and truly sad. This is happening to cities all across America. I'm noticing "that look" here in Milwaukee. Just drive through downtown Milwaukee and you will see crumbling parking structures, fenced off areas, etc. Our roads here are terrible. Go to the south side of Milwaukee and you can see all the empty buildings that were formerly car dealerships. All the main factories that once offered great jobs and supported families are gone. They have been torn down and replaced by Sonic Drive-Ins. Whoopie! This is exactly what happens when there is no wealth distribution and no funding for infrastructure. The article speaks the truth. The economy will never get better, just about all of America looks like a hellhole and when the economy finally crashes for good, we will fall hard. 1984, folks. Better brace yourself and stay strong or just move to another country. This isn't going to be pretty.

Unfortunately other countries, especially EU ones, are in trouble as well. We are all so interconnected now that whatever happens in one happens in all. There will just be the enclaves of the rich and powerful, which will be last to fall. At least they'll have a good long time to watch the results of their deeds. At first they'll think it's great, but then a sneaking suspicion will arise, and then the gobsmacked look will come over them.

That's correct, madammarsh. Yep, we are a global economy and a depression in the US will create a domino effect. Very true that the rich as always are clueless and this is their "let them eat" cake moment. But as you say, then the rich will realize that without a strong working class everything will crumble--eventually taking them with it.

I've posted comments before bringing up Poe's great story "The Masque of the Red Death" in which a prince and his family and friends barricade themselves in the palace to keep out the plague ravaging the town. Inside, they carry on their luxurious lifestyle and a bal masque is given. But a certain uninvited guest arrives and....OOOOOPS! It so well illustrates the absurd notion some people have that riches will keep you safe.

We are only a "global economy" because the corporate 'titans' gave our economic sovereignty to China and India. It was handed to them on a silver platter, it's not like they worked their asses off and rightfully over took our place. The American Corps. gave it all away.

Most Americans cities are looking like Somalia. Imagine your children or grandchildren playing in these piles of rubble and trash without running water in their houses. Most of them will have dysentery from the back-up of sewage that has seeped into the puddles they drink from and play in. Public high school will closed all across the country. It really doesn't matter because their is no jobs for "educated" people anyway.
That's the future for upcoming Americans and is increasingly becoming the present.

A lot of people saw this coming . We did not invest in renewable energy like we should have . Or public education . Or localizing supplies of food and energy and education . IF a community has these things , it may survive . Localize people , do it now , or you may not make it . Good luck all .

Problem #1 is that 60% of americans dont pay taxes, and we rely on 2% of the country to pull the cart.

Problem #2 - The top 2% make a third of the nation's income.

Probably pulled it out of the IRS. The truth is that something like 47% of the people in this country pay no FIT and 10% pay the most. Just do a little research. If you wish to talk about all taxes look at the government imposed fuel taxes, use taxes for things such as cell phones, compliance costs for doing business, real estate taxes, state income tax, personal property tax (do you know that in Maryland if you are a sole proprietorship carpenter your tools are subject to business personal property tax and said items are never depreciated below 25% regardless of age and condition), etc. Are you suggesting that we make all these things go away for people below a certain income? The problem is not the corporations, the problem is government. What is your solution since you made the differentiation?

Whether these cities are restructured in Bankruptcy court or taken over under the premise of "emergency financial conditions", as in Michigan, will make a difference what happens to these cities long-term, and who bears the brunt of the costs. Allowing the cities to go into Bankruptcy would leave it up to the courts to decide how burdens are shared. In emergency takeovers, though, the trend is to pay the banks and financial institutions first, leaving most of the cuts for people, services, and pension obligations.

The financial martial law trend will spread--governors can do as they please without anyone to say no. They can take what they want (such as the school for pregnant teens and teen mothers or Jean Klock Park) and auction it to highest bidder or simply close it off and leave it to decay.
