"Justice has been done," President Obama says in a televised speech to the nation. Bin Laden, mastermind behind the Sept. 11 attacks and Al Qaeda leader, was killed by a CIA-led team at a compound inside Pakistan.

— Reporting from Washington —

A CIA-led team killed Osama bin Laden at a compound inside Pakistan Sunday and recovered his body, bringing to a close the world's highest-profile manhunt after a decadelong search, President Obama announced to the world Sunday night.

"Justice has been done," the president said solemnly in a hastily arranged late-night TV address from the East Room of the White House. Bin Laden, he said, "murdered thousands of innocent men, women and children" and his death was "the most significant achievement to date" in the U.S. war against the Al Qaeda terrorist network that Bin Laden founded, led and inspired.

As described by the president and top administration officials, the successful effort to track down Bin Laden centered on a man whom the officials described as a trusted courier for Al Qaeda, a protégé of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed , the operational mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks.

**Osama bin Laden buried at sea, official says**

The official says it would have been difficult to find a country willing to take the remains of the terrorist leader, so the U.S. chose a water burial.

—WASHINGTON—
A U.S. official says Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has been buried at sea.

After Bin Laden was killed in a raid by U.S. forces in Pakistan, senior administration officials said the body would be handled according to Islamic practice and tradition. That practice calls for the body to be buried within 24 hours, the official said. Finding a country willing to accept the remains of the world's most wanted terrorist would have been difficult, the official said. So the U.S. decided to bury him at sea.

The official, who spoke Monday on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive national security matters, did not immediately say where that occurred.

**Chris Hedges Speaks on Osama bin Laden’s Death**

"These groups learned to speak the language we taught them. And our response was to speak in kind. The language of violence, the language of occupation—the occupation of the Middle East, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan—has been the best recruiting tool al-Qaida has been handed. If it is correct that Osama bin Laden is dead, then it will spiral upwards with acts of suicidal vengeance. And I expect most probably on American soil. The tragedy of the Middle East is one where we proved incapable of communicating in any other language than the brute and brutal force of empire."

      No. I answered your question.
I'd like to know the details myself.

Can it be done. Yes. Right on the Battleship.
Don't look to me for timelines, I was neither there nor am I accepting the story blindly.
Being a scientist, and having worked in a bureaucracy, I knew enough to answer your question.

I voted you up. People like to vote on comments here. I always vote up what i like, and down trolls that are attacking strangers right after they join, and obvious socks. I even vote up Warren every so often. If I'm arguing with someone, I don't down them unless they start down voting me, not an exact science but you can spot it. Everybody is different. Remmans clued me into serial down voters first day I was here.

It takes a village idiot. We have a lot of those. But it makes things variable, I guess there is something redeemable in it. You only get one vote, seems fair enough. If you game it by wearing socks, you are a bottom feeder. That's my opinion.

Brave of you to admit to voting up Warren. I do too from time to time, along with a few downs. He can be maddening but he does his homework and is consistently voted down even when there is nothing remotely objectionable in his comment. He has been known to bring useful information or links so readers can check for themselves and been voted down for it. There is a very good post from him way down on this thread (on page 13 as of 3 May; you'll know it when you come to it) which I invite everyone to look at. The fact that we disagree with someone's political or economic views does not make them inhuman or every opinion evil.

KB the voting down has been going on since the HUMP beating Saturday night and intensified Sunday night after the announcement. What I want to know is this. Will the folks at Current allow the trolls to come here and vote down valued posters who have given them the much needed publicity they crave or pay attention to what is being said by the trolls with the nasty insults and the voting down crap then end up like HuffPost? OR will they look at our responses to the verbal abuse and delete both theirs and ours to level the playing field? Or are they going to only concentrate on our stuff for deletion? If so Randy Rhodes have her site where you can post views and in a blink if the crap continues I say mass migration. At least if they follow us to Randy's site she will not be afraid to dispatch them.

      Thanks MM,

I think we forget sometimes that we are all on the same boat. I don't hate people here.I get frustrated with some, and angry, but everyone shares the air you know?

Warren can be a pain but he's by no means a despicable person.
My son in law is a blue collar Libertarian, as they say a "temporarily inconvenienced rich guy". I love the guy but he's confused. I just avoid talking politics with him. What are you going to do? I can't change his mind, I just hope he comes to his senses.

Well said and thanks. As mentioned elsewhere my sweetie is a righty. I try continually to get him to see the error of his ways, but so far no luck. Associating with people with whom you disagree keeps one from getting ideologically fat and lazy. I like to be challenged and kept on my toes. This is different, I point out to some here, from screaming and name-calling, which helps nobody, especially not the screamer or name-caller.

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral,
begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy.
Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.
Through violence you may murder the liar,
but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth.
Through violence you may murder the hater,
but you do not murder hate.
In fact, violence merely increases hate.
      So it goes.
Returning violence for violence multiplies violence,
adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.
      Darkness cannot drive out darkness:
      only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.

    • We weren't fighting Bin Laden in Afghanistan, or Iraq, or Libya ... or anywhere, for that matter. The folks who supported him haven't changed their minds. He wasn't Taliban. Nothing will change.

But America needed an arch-villain - it fits the template - like Batman's "Penguin" or James Bond's "Dr. No." This isn't any sort of "normal" war where we make sure we capture as many of the leaders as possible so they can be tried in public, as in the Nuremburg trials. Possibly because there may be no real evidence linking them to specific events, like torture or other war crimes. Right.

So we waxed the bastard, giving us bragging rights. Obama's strutting and preening, acting every bit the B.S.D. And it only cost - what? Two or three trillion dollars? How many lives of American servicepersons, including 18 and 19 year old kids? A collapsed economy?

Will anything change at all? Will things get worse, even? We'll see.

Obama was neither the cause nor is he the solution. We had been looking for Bin Laden for a long time before 2008. We'll see whether Obama's strategy will produce a lasting peace, or - my opinion here - contribute to endless war.

Only three thousand families? Lancet's estimate of excess deaths in Iraq alone based ultimately upon US activities over there was, in 2006, over 600,000. That's the best estimate we can make - an unbiased scientific estimation by unconflicted professionals published in a preeminent peer-reviewed journal. Miles apart from the fantasies of bloviating politicians and extremist hacks. AND, that was as of 2006. And, no, I do in fact have regrets and feelings for ALL of the victims - Americans, Iraqis, Afghanis, British, and so on - all of them. That's the problem. And, the slaughter will most likely continue unabated.

Sure, Bin Laden was a bad guy. So? Everyone is saying real muslims don't care. That should underscore his irrelevance, excepting as a tool - a bogeyman - with which to control the fools.

    • You know. I found out two new things today. One: This man who effected millions of Americans lives with his pure hatred of our culture, was murdered today by our military. After a 10 year man hunt. Second: Jello is/or has been made and produced from cow marrow! Which has been going on for years... Besides all the perservitatiea, sugar, saturated fat, and food coloring in it. The brand also adds cow mutilation o it's ingredient lists.

As a BORN American Citizen, I have more concern about this "Jello" anomaly that was brought to my attention than, this revenge on a man everyone has forgotten was even alive!
I have come to a devastating realization that the fear of patriotism in our country will fade away as our decades roll on-ward.
Long live my beautiful liberty may your strength enlighten my bretherns.

    • WHO REALLY KNOWS??? Come on people! We should all know better! How much lying do these people need to do before you stop just taking their word for it? Their word is shit, including Obama!

And no, I'm not a conservative or a bagger or a democrat or a libertarian. I'm just a human being who is so sick with all this war mongering. Sick that we have flushed our wealth down the toilet killing other poor people. Sick that we have spent over a trillion dollars in the last 10 years trying to feed our petroleum addiction by invading sovereign nations and destroying their livelihoods all the while the same bastard war corporations have been destroying our livelihoods here! I'm sick of it. And Obama is JUST as beholden to these fuckers as Bush was. Stop LYING to yourselves just because you are too terrified to face this horrifying reality we now all have to face.

Stop belittling and disrespecting those who have already opened their eyes and are trying to make sense of all these deceptions and half truths.

There is NO solid ground here to stand on. Not one of you knows the details of what has really taken place, why it has taken place or when it took place. NOT ONE OF YOU.

Certainty is a thing of the past, much like stability, safety & security. The only thing any of us can do is take in this overload of information, wade through everyone's opinion, attempt to separate fact from fiction and then just try to take an educated guess.

That's it. That's all we've got. You all had better start working on being more flexible critical thinkers or you will have ZERO chance of making it through the bottleneck we are quickly approaching.

In the end who the fuck cares. If he isnt dead hell pop up later on. If he is dead...well then hes dead. Either way it has dealt a blow to terrorists wether you want to admit it or not. Osama surviving this long only encouraged terrorists the whole time so the fact that he is dead or appears dead is the same effect in that it has discouraged terrorists and riled up a nation and other countries.

      ~ Quote ~

      "Obama killed Osama"

I have spent 20 minutes this morning watching the insanity play out on MSM via my computer screen.

The vast hordes of the chemically and sociologically dumbed down, playing their part in the psy op worthy of a soap-opera Emmy. With crowds in front of the White House chanting "OBAMA!" This is a production that would make Edward Bernays proud.

It is a propaganda show, produced and choreographed to the delight of the masses.

Lke a virtual Roman Colosseum, this time POTUS handed the head to the masses, coming across as more Presidential and in charge than he has in far too many months, evidencing his emperor qualities.

I was astounded by the MSM preparation (except a few FOX affiliates) and spin that proceeded his well prepared, and almost MK trance induced delivered speech. Constantly reminding people 911*911*911 and how many people died. Osama was to blame. Al-Qaeda was to blame.

Strangely absent was any reference to Tower 7..... Nor the fact that the U.S government admitted on numerous times, bin Laden had nothing to do with the 9/11/01 op.

Now, also strangely absent, there will be no bona fide evidence that Osama bin Laden is dead. No body, no proof, nor even that the operation ever was conducted. Just unsubstantiated words from a President and government who desire the people to believe them. And so many will.

Despite the fact that they are unworthy and have not earned such trust.

As I watch the death, not of Osama bin Laden, ... yet again, but of critical thinking and the ability to cognitively discern, my disgust and sadness for the citizens ever increases.

As the sounds of re-election ratings and chants of approval echo from the mouths of media whores into the brains of the fluoridated masses.

      "Obama Killed Osama"

This is all a game. Each has their part.

When I remember this it helps me digest what is happening to the social structure of America.

All has meaning, even the mundane. It's all in the numbers.

This is multi-level psy op regurgitating someone who may have been long dead.

It helps boost Obama in the ratings, and gives him the strongest campaign hook in years.

In fact, his re-election is almost a give in now.

It allows the govt to declare heightened security levels because "Al-Qaeda threats".

It guarantees renewal of the patriot act, and possibly increasing it's powers.

And surely will result in beefed up and increased NSA/TSA/DHS police state.

And unfortunately, lays the perfect foundational preparation for a false flag op, in the event that all the fear mongering doesn't bring the citizens into line.

This is sad, truly sad to me the people are still incapable of seeing this production.

If they think that now because the 'boogie man' is gone they are going back to magnetic wands at the airports and no invasive pat-downs; That the Police State will chill out a little; That the government intrusion into the privacy of citizens will cease, they are dreaming.

This is the start of the next round of vice tightening on the cajones of the citizens, all for the aforementioned reasons.

It is all the perfect scenario, timed perfectly, in so many ways.

As with the Wizard of Oz... Let us all keep the curtain pulled back and watch the smoke as those in control spin the big wheels, saying 'pay no attention to the men behind the curtain'.

At first we did look in awe at the 'Wizard' and his lies, but now we know he has no power.

Once the game and lies have been exposed, it really matters little how the others act, for we know the truth, and the truth has set us free, in mind at least, ... if nothing else.

We are in for so much more shock and awe.

Stay aware, prepared and informed. Good luck to the citizens of the U.S.A. and the World.

(I condensed this down from a few posts and musings of mine, and I have nothing more to say on the matter)

It's always good to be a skeptic, a theorist--dare I say a conspiracy theorist; for, more often than not, those people bring to light unwanted realities and possibilities. It's unfortunate we have to consider such profound claims, but given our history, it is all certainly is plausible. Good read.

    • Think of the volume of work and the intelletual levels of the designers, engineers, planners, financiers and workers who created those magnificant towers. Then think of the level and skill and intelligence of those who built the airliners, from the days of the Kitty Hawk. Then think of the mentality of those who slit throats, hijacked and flew the planes into the WTC towers, blocking out the reality that the lids on their coffins would close on them with the deaths of 3000 souls to their credit. Mostly burned to death, crushed under tons of concrete & steel and baked @ 1800 degrees. This describes the way Bin Laden's followers chose to pass into eternal life. ...We honored them here by burying their ashes, along with the rubble they created at the dump with a bulldozer. A historical site: The landfill of the unknown terrorist! Time for FESTIVITIES in america for sure now that OBL's bubble has burst; Some conspiracy theories have failed, suspicions vacated.
