Sea burial of Osama bin Laden breaks sharia law, say Muslim scholars

US officials had decided that, should Osama Bin Laden be killed in a raid by American troops at a compound in northern Pakistan, they would dispose of his body at sea in order that his grave not become a shrine to his followers. While a White House officials says they planned to follow all rites with Muslim burials and consulted with Islamic experts, the sea burial has been quickly criticized by Muslim scholars who, according to the Guardian, say it violated sharia law and could be reason for retaliation attacks against the US.

    • Everything violates Sharia law, or be construed to do as such. Its just another twisted and convoluted religious law built to make whomever wields its interpretation the ultimate power. With bin Laden here's the truth i dont give a flying rats ass what is or is not, if they wanted to haul his body through the streets for the people to defile in any way they choose and then left his body for the crows to eat I would have cared a little bit more, but only insomuch as when his corpse was coming to my town so I could piss on his rotting corpse. But again I'm a little fucked up.

    • Fuck Bin Laden. Not one ounce of respect should have been paid toward him. They could have killed him by force feeding him pulled pork and tequila until his stomach ruptured for all I care.

    • Furthermore, in the very strict Wahabi custom, it is forbidden to reveal a burying place and to mark the grave in any manner, so as to avoid a grave being turned into a shrine. Osama bin Laden was a Wahabi.
