Osama bin Laden enjoyed cannabis in his mansion

worrg
Osama bin Laden enjoyed the high life before his death if the cannabis plants surrounding his mansion are anything to go by. It has emerged that world's most wanted terrorist spent his last six years as high as a kite. Every day the laid-back terror mastermind breathed in cannabis growing all around his "good life" mansion... http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/recent-news/42953-osama-bin-laden-enjoyed-...

    • Cannabis indica grows everywhere in Pakistan and surrounding countries - it is like weed. I've lived in Pakistan, in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Karachi, and saw cannabis plants grow in yards, in gardens, in fields, by the roadside, and even in cracks in the pavement on sidewalks. Yours is a total non-story.

Thank you for your comment. How often we are mistaken when we don't know the country/culture of a people.
On a different note, I posted the following comment on a different post, and as a person who knows more than I do about the area, what are your thoughts on it?
Once again, the use of the word compound do describe where they are. The word compound brings to mind Military Compound. But is that accurate?
Went to google earth this morning and typed in Abbottabad to see if I could find any pictures of other houses near there. Once you find the Kakul Pakistani Military Academy, go south west on Kakul Rd towards N35. About half way to N35, on the south side of of Kakul road their are two photos worth looking at: front of my house and hashmi colony street 2. Looks to me like his house wasn't that big in comparison and other houses have walls too. So how untypical was his "compound" compared to other houses in the area?

I agree, it grows wild in many places around the world. Just because they found it around the compound. doesn't mean he was toking. Did they find any bongs, rolling papers or pipes? I haven't heard that yet and I can't take this as true until I do.

Compounds don't have only military or police connotations - any property surrounded by walls or fences and in which there are two or more buildings, however modest, and in which several people/families or an extended family live is often referred to as a compound, especially in ex-British colonies.

Thank you for your definition of a compound and I agree with it completely. So, am I correct in assuming that that would be a common construction in the area that Osama lived in? I am thinking of the more afluent people of the area.

Thank you for your response. It is what I expected. being raised in Mexico. How we Americans interpret our own language: we think that Osama lived in a military compound that was above and beyond what people live in the surrounding area. We think that Abbottabad is a garrison town, and that the whole area is just military.
