Two Muslim men were removed from a Delta commuter flight operated by Atlantic Southeast Airlines Friday after the pilot refused to fly with them on board.

Masudur Rahman, an Arabic-language instructor at the University of Memphis and Mohamed Zaghloul, a religious leader in the Islamic Association of Greater Memphis told the AP they were removed from a flight leaving Memphis International Airport, heading for Charlotte, after the pilot refused to takeoff.

According to Charlotte-area station WBTV, the men have "retained counsel and the US attorney's office has already been contacted about the incident."

Rahman told the AP he "was dressed in traditional Indian clothing" and Zaghloul "was dressed in Arab garb, including traditional headgear" when they boarded the 8:40 AM flight to Charlotte.

The plane had left the gate and was headed for the runway when the pilot decided to turn back. Rahman said the pair were "ordered off by a Delta Supervisor." From WBTV:

This is BS. These men had already gone through security. This pilot should be fired for one, not doing his damn job and two, being a dumb ass bigot.

US Airways Captain on flying imams incident: "I can promise you the captain didn't throw those people off because of the way they were dressed. There's more to the story."

These imams are demanding all sorts of concessions. It is interesting to note that the orthodox Jews who were removed from a plane in March are not crying victimhood, not claiming racial profiling, not trying to weaken airport security. The contrast is illuminating. An update on this story. "Captain Backs Pilot Who Kicked Muslims Off Plane," from WSOCTV.com, May 9:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A U.S. Airways Captain defended the actions of another pilot, three days after two imams were kicked off a flight bound for Charlotte.

Lawyers for Masudur Rahman and Mohamed Zaghloul said the imams were pulled off a plane in Memphis before it headed to Charlotte Friday. The lawyers said the pilot refused to fly with them on board. He said the men passed multiple security clearances before boarding a Delta connection flight operated by Atlantic Southeast Airlines.

The imams said they were victims of racial profiling. On Sunday, Capt. James Ray, who represents the pilot’s union for U.S. Airways, said it’s highly unlikely the pilot asked them to leave for that reason.

"I can promise you the captain didn't throw those people off because of the way they were dressed. There's more to the story,” Ray said.

The imams said the pilot told them the passengers were uncomfortable, but no passengers spoke up.

Ray said ultimately, it’s the captain’s call. “The captain operates in an environment that's always changing. It's dynamic. You can't fly an airplane by committee,” he said. [...]

The imams were headed to Charlotte for a weekend conference on "islamophobia" - the fear of Islam.

They were put on another flight and arrived a few hours later.

Atlantic Southeast Airlines released a statement and said it apologizes for any inconvenience but it takes security very seriously. The imam's attorney said his office plans to launch an investigation into the incident. If it turns out the pilot was not justified in putting the imams off the plane, his office will sue for negligence and a violation of civil rights.

      Muslim Leaders Address "Islamophobia"

The annual conference in Charlotte was scheduled before Friday's incident and before the death of Osama bin Laden. Conference organizers said the timing could not have been more coincidental....

      Yes, what a remarkable coincidence!

What's the rest of the story then? ...*crickets* yep, that's what I though. If there was more to the story they would have said what that "more" was. It's very telling that of all the links you could have provided for this you used Jihad watch. wow.

Keep bringing up the poor Jewish men who were removed from a plane.. it's apples and oranges. They were tying shit to their bodies.. leather straps and little boxes.. duh! how the hell do you expect people to react? If a Muslim man did that kinda crap on a plane you would be calling for his god damn head. Hypocrite.

If these men were doing something like that then hell yes they should have been removed. So far I haven't heard anything like that.

Now, i know there are lots of good people out there, but there's also way too many dumb people like this, and like I said, I'm almost ashamed to be from the same country as these racist people. it's a horrible story, and I want to apologize to all Muslims for dumb ass people like this, and the even dumber who 'put the Qur'an on Trial and then burn it'

    • I used to live in Saudi Arabia and I found it fascinating that many of my students still lived with their African slaves, who had been "liberated" several decades before yet had nowhere to go and no way to get there. This is technically not much different from the US in the 1880s... with the great exception being that the movement to abolish slavery did not develop naturally within Islamic Saudi Arabia, but rather was forced upon them by the post World War II international political order from without.

I also used to find it sad, on some freakish level, to see all the African-American converts to Islam who had relocated to Saudi Arabia to live where they could wrap their wives up in burqas/abayas, and enjoy their unearned status of superiority over the Infidel without having done a thing to earn it, yet at the same time the local Arabs just looked down at them with total racist disdain and scoffed at their attempts to indigenize and become equal. It got so bad that in one of my classes I had to demand the Saudi students from every referring again to the African student in my class as nigger and slave which I found repugnant. (Brilliantly, this African student was one of my best students!)

    • As a black man I am disgusted beyond words that these Islamonazi imams have the audacity to compare themselves to Rosa Parks!!! I also loathe the fact that many black people cling to Islam even though Mohammed called us raisin heads, and the fact that Muslims were enslaving black Africans centuries before the Europeans, but turn around and say Christianity is a white mans religion.

There are two cards Muslims like to trump: 1) Racist Card 2)Victim card.....both fake.

    • These imams deliberately behaved arrogantly so they can cause fear to the other passengers and then can claim victimization of so-called Islamophobia , besides suing the airline for million of dollars later on. It's like mosques which are mysteriously being destroyed, smeared with pig blood, burnt or whatever, and then witout any evidence, the Muslims claimed non-Muslim 'racists' are victimizing Muslims (and yet most of the perpetrators are never caught), thus helping their cause further politically for such victimisation.

      There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
      Everybody look what's going down

      There's battle lines being drawn
      Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
      Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
      Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
      Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
      Everybody look what's going down

      Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
      Everybody look what's going down
      Stop, hey, what's that sound
      Everybody look what's going down
      Stop, now, what's that sound
      Everybody look what's going down
      Stop, children, what's that sound
      Everybody look what's going down

Actually I was refering to America in the Early 20th Century, when poor young males (the real definition behind redneck, not the racist white male as it has become in the mainstream) were called on to fight wars of true threats to us as a country. As it is always the poor, many young "redneck" people from many ethnic backgrounds died then to secure the bygone ideals of a once great nation, not the corporate whoredom they are dying for today. The pilot would hardly be called redneck, based on income alone.

    • These 'Muslim men' were Imams en route to a conference on "Islamophobia'' are now comparing themselves to Rosa Parks! LOL

We have yet to hear the pilot's side of the story, but this situation smells bad for several reasons, not least of which is the curious coincidence of the imams' travel plans to a conference on the concocted phenomenon of "Islamophobia." We have seen provocative behavior by "flying imams" before, as well. And in any event, the imams ought to understand this before claiming victimhood: Even as the air security apparatus bends over backwards to avoid the appearance of any special focus on one particular group, the single most serious terrorist threat at home and abroad to the United States is from jihadists. And we know well their preference for the drama and massive disruption that targeting air travel provides them. Hence the scrutiny.

Choosing whether or not to step in front of a speeding bus is not discrimination.. Do you even know what the fuck that word means? That's rhetorical, btw.

How many people have died in the name of Christianity? I dont see you advocating throwing them off a plane.

If we judge all people by the extremist than all republicans are bigoted, racist, misogynist secretly seeing their gay, black, hooker behind the back of their third wife. All Christians are like the Phelps family and should immediately be shunned by society.. get the picture.

    • Nobody cared when the mere presence of Orthodox Jews caused the lockdown of the cockpit of the plane and airport police escorted the three Jewish men off the plane last month. Not even a mere yawn (and it happens a lot; last January a flight out of NY was diverted to Philly because of Jewish men), but two imams are escorted off a plane in Tennessee and the media (which jokes about these Jewish incidents) is blown-back, and the Muslim Brotherhood groups (ie CAIR) are preparing for litigation warfare and a public relations blitz. Oh yes, CAIR is going to give all of America "sensitivity" lessons (while pushing for a Ground Zero mosque on hallowed ground).

As for these fully garbed imams, the pilot was looking out for his crew and passengers. If six-year-old girls can get sexually groped by TSA, fully garbed imams can be inconvenienced as well.

I only found this because I googled.. I hadn't heard of this incident.

Here is another link for the story - http://failedmessiah.typepad.com/failed_messiahcom/2011/03/orthodox-jews-putting...

"Pilots on an Alaska Airlines flight locked down the cockpit and alerted authorities after three passengers conducted an elaborate orthodox Jewish prayer ritual during their Los Angeles-bound flight.

Airline spokeswoman Bobbie Egan says the crew of Flight 241 from Mexico City became alarmed Sunday after the men began the ritual, WHICH INVOLVES TYING LEATHER STRAPS AND SMALL WOODEN BOXES TO THE BODY."

BOLDING is mine.. See, where you got your information leaves out that last little bit that I bolded. Big difference between this story and your the poor Jewish men story.

And for the record- considering your oh so obvious hatred for anything Islam I take anything you say on the subject with a grain of salt, less than actually.

    • I SUGGEST LET IT FLY BYE,
IF THEY WERE WOMEN IN A BURQA,
      WHAT THEN:
I SIDE WITH PILOT, PREVENTION, sides with caution.

IF YOUR IN ROME, you know the rest.
I THINK BOTH MEN NEED TO BE SENSITIVE TO HOW THEY DRESS,
if I show up with traditional HAWAIIN clothing i don´t mean white man invention "ALOHA SHIRTS" but a MALE HAWAIIAN outfit .
      WOULD THEY LET ME ON?
      NO WAY!
IF showed up in a HOCKEY sports PADS gloves and all no way Jose.
SO HERE MEN IN SHIRTS, unless your blowing bag pipes,
well it is a choice and the pilot responsible for everyone,
not just the two guys in a dress and head gear.
COSTUMES when and where acceptable, knowing the Airline security,
      the ARAB-MUSLIM poor track record,
THE ARROGANCE OF CULTURE, can be disturbing to others.
SO IF I GO TO A PUBLIC THEATER dressed in my AMERICAN FOOTBALL OUTFIT, and 3 people behind me can´t see, who is right who is wrong.
TAKE THE MIDDLE ROAD, I wear my HAWAIIAN at home, on the beach!
WHEN I GET ON A PLANE,
      PLAIN CLOTHING!
