Reform Immigration in this country? Please that is a reach..........we can't even get pass religion and sexuality or race let alone share the country with those people, sadly we have not evolved nearly enough for such lavish expectations. 2050 is when this may have a slight chance but not now all this will do is increase Tea bagger Numbers.

Undocumented immigrants alone paid over $11 billion in taxes into the economy. Tax dodging companies like GE, Bank of America, Boeing, and ExxonMobil routinely pay little to no income taxes at all.

Cheap Labour is just a step closer to slave labour. And really cheap labour is better than slave labour because you dont need to lock people out. They are "free" to sleep anywhere they want and they always come back in the morning.
So... what? ah yeah we were talking about immigration "reform"

At the end of the day, the american government does not wanna change immigration to allow a bunch of unskilled workers to enter the country especially now where their having a hard enough time employing those who are in the country already, the united states is going to maintain the right to pick and choose which immigrants they believe can contribute to the society in a positive manner, thats never going to change, amnesty to millions of people is simply something they cannot afford.

When an EMPLOYER, can do a job, ( at least at half-assed quality), with 4 peasants treated as chattel, for less than the cost of one skilled craftsman with a full slate of skills,....
never-mind. Had this discussion before -it always goes nowhere. Either someone has been in an impacted field, or they haven't.

Let me define . . .'impacted field',.....as in an endeavor involving SOME not immediately acquired craft skill set, utilized in MAKING something, or repairing something, or adapting something or some production process,... The focus of the statement being that of being engaged, or having been engaged,... as a LABORER/craftsman as opposed to being an owner of property,....or an actual agrarian "field" hand.

Obama would like to open the floodgates. It will allow more skilled labor into the country. If you understand increasing supply when demand isn't high the result is all of you skilled laborers will be competing for lower pay versus our new citizens.

Lower a persons pay to minimum wage levels is enough to put people out on the streets. In third world countries there are plenty of educated and skilled workers, the thing is that there qualifications are often not recognized by many first world countries, there are guys out there that are more qualified than local labour.
It took skilled workers too put up those high rises in mexico city, too build those resorts.
America is a country that has educated medical doctors from foreign countries busing tables and engineers turned into plumbers so on this point warren_merrill is right, the only thing that could save local workers bacon is unions, if collective bargaining rights go out the window then your in deep doo doo - 1 year ago

Don't fool yourself. There's skilled labor entering the country illegally. I once lived in southern California. The town was rapidly expanding with new homes. There was a corner with at least two hundred illegals waiting to be picked up by contractors every day. Try and tell me illegals who are carpenters, plumbers, roofers and HVAC skilled aren't taking away decent paying jobs from Americans. When I bought one of these homes I requested a clause in the contract illegals would not be involved in building my home. I was refused by three developments.

Probably not. Mr. Obama barely even believes in the nation -state system. After all he is the great leader of the free world. Borderlines and a nation's sovereignty never cross this man's mind, because a world full of sovereign nation states is a system he doesn't believe in .
The status quo will remain. In his mind no border really existed there in the first place, notwithstanding the bureaucrats at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement(which if he had his way he would get rid of I.C.E.).

So you want to know my thoughts you are wonderful now don't get angry with me.
IT IS STILL A GOOD TIME FOR IMMIGRATION REFORM.
1.) Getting people out of the shadow will increase the tax base for soc.sec. & Medicare. 2.) IT WILL STOP EMPLOYERS FROM HIRING ILLEAGALS & PAYING THEM LESS THAN CURRENT WAGES. IT WILL RESTORE BALANCE TO WORKING PEOPLE. 3.) By being productive citizens they can vote & participate in our democracy. This is what I think. - 1 year ago

It's quite obvious that the right wing will never want real immigration reform because their corporate bosses don't want it. American corporation's ability to hire illegal aliens at a fraction of the wage they would normally pay a US citizen is in their best financial interest. As is always the case, follow the money. It is a always a noble underaking to create a fair immigration policy, but of course Obama will once again find the GOP fighting tooth and nail against it no matter how reasonable it may be.
