Delaware Becomes 16th State to Legalize Medicinal Cannabis!!!

(Reuters) - Delaware became the 16th state on Friday to legalize marijuana for medical use after the governor signed the bill into law.

The law allows patients who certify they have a serious medical condition such as cancer to possess up to six ounces, or 170 grams, of marijuana.

State-licensed centers will be allowed to grow the marijuana and dispense it to patients 18 and older.

Democratic Governor Jack Markell signed the bill in private without a ceremony, according to his office.

The state Senate passed the measure on Wednesday by a 17-4 vote.

California was the first state to allow marijuana for medical use in 1996.

Many more states are expected to follow suit. How many states need to do this before cannabis/THC is finally rescheduled? In reality, it should have only taken 1 state... We now have a full THIRD of US states with medicinal cannabis laws even though the government has refused to acknowledge it's medicinal value, let alone the fact that it is a completely safe and non-toxic recreational substance that could offer a valuable alternative to alcohol which is one of this nation's leading substances attributing to the death of thousands of people every year.

PS - If you're wondering why I called it "Cannabis" that's because I refuse to call it "marijuana". Marijuana is a dirty racist term founded in the roots of the propaganda campaign that led to one of the biggest travesties in history...

Legalize, regulate and educate!! Cannabis should be free for adults to use as they wish, whether it be medicinal, spiritual, inspirational, or just simply recreational use. If we can drink ourselves to death with an accepted toxin with no medicinal value, why can't we choose to use a non-toxic herb for whatever we want???

    • If we were to stand up as a whole for our medicine as other countries have against their governments, we may stand a chance. We the people are free to chose what medicines we need. Not the government. The time is now for a permanent change!

    • I can give all who ask (Why is Cannabis Illegal?) an answer. This is because a certain individual named William Randolph Hurst wanted it to be illegal.
      This was due because he owned miles of forests so he could use the pulp to make paper for his newspaper empire, Cannabis was a cheaper product to manufacture and grew much faster and it's use in commercial applications were greater than plain old wood, (trees).
      This is the only reason why it's illegal and the Republican party wants to keep it that way.

    • its time to make cannablis legal i never knew that this drug could help so many people with medical condition and also it would empty our prisons of people charge with marijunana offense only just think of all the millions or billions of dollars spent just to enforce this drug that money could be spent on i dont know SCHOOLS

    • I cannot understand why this plant is illegal. It has so many uses and is actually used for medicinal purposes. When is the last time you read anywhere that someone has died or been hospitalized due to excessive marijuana ingestion? I for one have certainly not read or heard anything of the sort. Over 70000 deaths a year occur from alcohol consumption in the U.S. Anyone have or even heard a statistic on deaths due to marijuana consumption? I would love to see that...

    • I don't know why this stuff is illegal anyhow. I can't stand being around it and have no use for it whatsoever but for the government to spend the money it has been spending on trying to eradicate the use is absurd. People have the right to do whatever as long as it does not harm another.

    • Pot, dope, weed, medicinal cannabis, whatever you call it, will never be legal if our fascist government has it's way. Too much money to be made off prohibition.

      Not to mention big pharma is trying to patent it so if you get caught growing, you'll not only be in trouble for federal laws, but also patent laws. So even if it's legal for medicinal use, that only clears the way for coorperations to monopolize on our god given sacred herb.

      Btw-I hate to be a buzzkill!

      Pessimism... if this had got the better of all the warriors like Jack Herer, I'm sure this announcement of the 16th state to legalize it would not be possible.

      The government can only deny the truth as long as they retain plausibly deniability. If enough states go against the status quo, they will no longer be able to support their claims and the veil will fall, the wizard will be exposed for the fraud he is!

      Do not be overcome with pessimism, we are and have been gaining ground for a long time now. Don't lose hope for change right before we see the summit!

      Nope, unfortunately I'm in Utah. We'll probably be the last state to do something like this without the feds leading the way. I'm actually hoping to move to Washington sometime in the near future...

    • Alright Delaware! Let this spread from state to state just like what is happening with single payer health care. There is no reason not to legalize pot for medicinal purposes everywhere.

    • Legalization of Marijuana it's a states right issue use is outside Federal law it has been proven Medical benefits. I think if people need it for Medical benefits it should be legalize everywhere
