An investigation by state media found farms in the Jiangsu province in Eastern China were losing acres of fruit because of the problem.
The overuse of a chemical that helps fruit grow faster was blamed in one report by China Central Television. But agriculture experts were unable to explain why chemical-free melons were exploding. They cited the weather and abnormal size of the melon as factors.

The explosions have been devastating. Media reports that up to 10 people have gotten all sticky and there's ants everywhere, but the Chinese government has refused to comment. Cease and desist orders have been issued, but the fruit has not yet responded.

My guess is that they either got too much water after a dry spell or they had a quick change in temperature.

Call me crazy, but somehow, I don't buy the idea that the food and water being too plentiful caused them to exploded. See image above as example.

They are using weather modification to enhance rainfall in this area that has seen severe drought. There is no telling what chemicals came down from the sky and the effects of it on crops and the hydrologic cycle.

JanforGore:
I am so fed up with the weather modification bullshit, and again, our government is not only complicit, they are cooperating. No one who uses traditional gardening methods has been able to plant where I live, because the ground has been so saturated, and it doesn't look like it's going to let up for a while. People with raised bed gardens stand a much better chance of getting their plants in the ground, but you have to wonder, what the hell is in this rain?

Can we say this is a sign of the end times? I am sure a bible passage can be found to apply this to the end times.

Anyone who has ever done gardening knows that there is a find line between perfectly ripe and rotten. Sometimes I let my tomatoes go a little too long on the vine to gain sweetness and the very next day they will have a big crack on the side, or crack down the side when I pick them.
Fruits and vegitables were never intended to be perfect when eating. When to pick 'em is always part of the gamble.
