Tzipi Livni: a lonely voice among Israeli leaders that agrees with Obama

Reactions were not slow in coming in following President Obama's speech on the Middle East. With the AIPAC Conference due this weekend, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in town for the event, he was not privy to details of the speech ahead of time. It is at once fascinating and horrifying to see the reaction on the 'Jewish Street' to Obama's declaration that there should be an Israeli homeland based on 1967 borders. This is NOT a new idea. It was the basis of the proposal of the Arab Peace Initiative developed in 2002, and has been embraced by the UN, the Middle East Quartet, JStreet, some Republicans, not to mention several countries around the globe which have pledged to recognize a separate Palestinian state based on those borders.

Why is it that former Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni is the only person with long term vision? She has never wavered from her initial position since she was not able to form a coalition government in Israel when she was declared the winner of the presidential election. In today's Jerusalem Post, the headline reads: 'Livni: PM is jeopardizing Israel's relationship with US'. In another popular Israeli daily, YnetNews, which is the web version of Yediot Aharonot, a similar headline: 'Livni: Netanyahu hurting US-Israel relations'.

      I'm not sure I'd call her a war monger..She is still more reasonable and realistic than Netanyahu and understands that isolation from Americans can be disastrous for Israel. But that said, I don't think she has any chance at this point of leading the country as she missed that boat.

      i dont know.not in that soft sarcastic way of saying your wrong,i literaly dont know.
      i tend to not concern myself too much with others politicians as i have enough worries trying to wade through our own politicians bullshit spewing.

      i just thought if i recalled that the israel bashers like to use her as an example of zionist militancy.as they tend to be wrong with alaring regularity she could be a peacenik for all i know.

      but it just seems the individual matters little as this conflict runs so deep

    • Livni spoke to RT News a year ago this month. Her views are the same today. She would navigate the peace process a heck of a lot better than Netanyahu who is constantly posturing. And the ice between him and Obama is now visible.
