A must read (excellent New Scientist article series). Now is the time to consider Steady-state-economics.

Great link. Some of the states are politically totally screwed. I listened to a town hall here in Oregon last night and was appalled to hear my representative say that environmental regulations need to take a back seat to business. This position keeps any progressive debate on hold because it pretends that regulations are only in place to hurt business, not to protect the wellness of the population and the planet.

It is my belief that I will witness in my lifetime, the collision between the desire for perpetual growth and the physical constraints that our planet exerts on our species. I expect it to be a real head-turning event.

It reminds me of the healthcare debate that never happened. To get to real solutions to problems, the facts need to be reviewed. Facts and the way the world works are in short supply in American media discussions. If the media isn't interested in truth, how can our political leaders ever be held to account for their votes? You said it; BIG subject!
