About 100 police officers from different agencies making up the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System met Thursday at the Joliet Correctional Center for crowd control training.

Officers from many local departments are assigned to ILEAS’ Region 3 Central team.

ILEAS mobile field forces are sent out to assist at big events and incidents that could overwhelm local police. Besides providing additional security at a global economic summit and national political convention, they also respond to natural disasters.

“We just had about 15 members called out two weeks ago to help (deal with) the severe flooding downstate,” said Joliet police Operations Cmdr. Al Roechner.

Thursday’s exercise prepared the officers to deal with a large crowd that turns violent. The closed former prison on Collins Street offered an ideal location.

    • This is nice to know. I guess they realize that civil war is going to happen in the near future. But hey who is to say the other side is not doing the same thing? well sort of any way.
